Pannier Rack DISASTER: Cycling Northern England | Bike Touring the British Isles
After 2 months of out British Isles cycle tour, we left Liverpool and began cycling through Northern England. Our next destination: Newcastle. This stretch of the cycle tour would take us through the very hilly Yorkshire Dales, through Durham and up to Newcastle. We were meeting up with friends in Newcastle, so we had to cover 250km in 4 day – the fastest and furthest we’d cycled so far. Along the way we’d encounter huge hills, a mechanical disaster, and a mysterious man zooming around on a miniature quad bike…
CONTEXT:
In 2021, Jill and I were on a long-distance bicycle tour from Sussex to Shetland, for a movie date at the most remote cinema in Britain! Cycling so far would take us over five months, through pretty much all the terrain the British Isles has to offer.
Cycle touring as a couple was a first for us, and would take us through England, Wales, The Isle of Man, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, finishing on one of the most remote islands in the UK: Out Skerries, in Shetland, home to the most remote cinema on the British Isles.
Big thank you as always to Jill for some fabulous B-Roll!

WOW! What a fantastic trip for the both of you. I am just a casual biker, but that must have been painful on those hills! Kudos for you both and all that stamina you have. Stay safe and btw horses are just curious. The bigger they are, the more gentler they are. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
These parts of England are FAR more interesting than London to me. Much more life and beauty. What a great upload again.
Looking forward to the isle of man video. Cycle toured there last year. Amazing cycling. The biggest disappointment was a lack of bakeries…. We only found a really expensive one in Douglas to refuel at.
Shoutout to handy quad guy!! 😂
❤ fantastic trip and great video mate
Really nice video mates! I am looking forward to seeing the next one, happy cycling and safe trips! ⭐
I like this content mate keep going . This content needs *SMZEUS*!!
Those gates are a 4king pain in the ass, there popping up every where, councils need to come up with a better idea.
How did you get the house to stay everyday? Mind sharing the info?
Not all heroes wear capes.
What software are you using for editing
First time bike tourer? You carried a full size stand pump with you? Mad. Bugee cords, spare spokes, chain whip and a cassette removal tool would have served you better. I bring a standard frame pump that is attached to the bike frame. I bet you learned your lesson as to what is needed and what is not neeed and could have been left at home.
I am far too proud to push my bike up anything (11:28) so i will suffer like a dog before i get off of the bike and push it. This is one fo the reasons i have a long cage rear mech with 34. So i can grammy up hills with my road bike. I dont have a touring bike. My road racing bike is my touring bike. I use TUBUS racks that fit a standard 700c road racing bike.
I cant believe how much crap you guys carried with you. I bet half of that is not even needed or even got used. What the heck did you carry with you? Your bikes look like lorries on wheels.
Trangia alcohol stove with a cross pot stand…..nevermind…you guys do what you want. I would not carry all that crap with me for sure.
I cycled my way from north devon to all over europe and back. Ive done multiple trips from devon to the north of the UK and i am about to do another one for this years UCI worlds in glasgow this august.
Once anybody has done any significant length on a bike you leanr as to what you can take with you and what is really fluff and does not need to come. Or you learn that you can make things easier on yourself if you reduce certain items' weight or replace with lighter items that do the same thing. E.g. Full sized gas stove or a simple trangia alcohol stove with 1/8th the weight and footprint.
