[Music] the torrid hills in scotland are remote but also for those in the know they’re renowned to be one of the best places in britain if not the world to ride so just how good are they and how good can an epic adventurous ride be here so thanks to garmin and the help of the edge 1030 plus we’re going to find out ourselves we’ve headed to the scottish highlands for a two-day rise through the heart of this epic landscape finishing up at the sea and a weed ram at the waterfront pub in applecross looking across the isle of skye [Music] the torridan hills in the north west of the scottish highlands are a group of spectacular peaks many over 3 000 feet high and so take the title of monroe’s named after sir hugh munroe the first person who compiled the list of the biggest mountains in scotland whilst our ride is epic we won’t actually be going quite high enough to bag at monroe ourselves but that’s not what we’re here for it’s the amazing rocks labs [Music] oh my gosh so slippery oh [Music] [Applause] [Applause] yes that’s right we’re using the garmin edge 1030 plus to navigate ourselves around these highlands trails and without navigation here you’ll be very very utterly screwed so i uh planned the rinks using commute i should i say plan actually i copped and pasted the gpx into commute it’s pretty legendary route this one this is the lollipop at torradin so we are still going to follow you obviously turn by turn navigation because if you take the wrong turn here go down the wrong valley you’ll be stuck in the middle of the wilderness that’s lollipops we’ve come up now we’re turning left we’re heading up still a long way to go up the climb down and then we go around the back of that mountain back up that valley over there i guess and then we drive back down the way we came 40k 40k thousand meters well that is big not massive we’ve only ridden 5k so far and done 500. why slow going that is have we i mean we’ve done my gosh for 357 meters we’ve done we’ve got another 300 to go yeah we’re going around the mountain it’s toughening sunlight it’s like somebody is hyperbolic some of it’s like mountain yeah you have to go hard to get up it yeah you do momentum is key when climbing on rocks like this and clipped in um talk about turns neil yeah we’re at a wide junction we have to go that way yeah all the way around this small lock in the middle of nowhere really [Music] torridon is renowned for being wild with unpredictable weather and very remote so we’ve got to be prepared we’ve packed plenty of food and box bears two tubes and plenty of plugs each the trails are super rocky spare jackets phones and a first aid kit with emergency full blankets just in case the t-junction wasn’t the t-junction i thought so now we’re out here you can see that’s the valley we’re gonna be coming back up in a few outside probably that’s the way we’re going up there well i’ve just looked at the climb pro like have you seen your climb throw i have got it 283 meters it’s getting dark right there [Music] hi goodbye this is where it’s at there’s not an adventure without carrying your bike up a mountain we’re coming up to this huge like void in the two mountains where we’re gonna have to hike up through it into a valley so we can cross around this mountain here to get to the other side it’s uh damn it’s rough really rough you can’t ride this [Music] hey neil we made it how’s tough the biggest hike has done the while yeah [Applause] i reckon sit down have some lunch get some more energy because uh this next bit it’s all downhill from here baby down here [Music] 27 kilometers and almost five hours into the ride the average speeds are really low just because the terrain is so challenging a lot of hiker bike a lot of really technical climbing and even the descents aren’t really that fast just because they’re super gnarly and you really do feel exposed baby head central man so we’ve fueled ourselves up for this big descent this is probably the cherry on the top from all that hiking it’s the biggest center alright it started off gnarly didn’t it yeah it did super rocky loose you can see here it goes snakes its way through this valley all the way down to a tarmac road and in which we kind of get on to go around this big mountain which we saw from the other side we’re going to come up that valley and uh come back on ourselves big right there i’m surprised how it was taking us ages yeah yeah but it’s big and the weather man liquid sunshine is liquid sunshine that’s for sure i’m taking it as liquid sunshine i’ll follow you neil hey [Music] on the descents it’s time to be pretty careful not push too hard but it’s just taking the experience it’s such an amazing place [Music] so [Music] after a quick spin along the road we turn right and head back into the hills now climbing back up a huge valley towards a bothered [Music] so we’ve come we stumbled upon a buffy we’re uh we’re in here checking it out it’s pretty cool it’s a it’s a mountaineering uh building where you can seek refuge if you’re out there in the wilderness getting annihilated by weather now look at this there’s the toilet there’s the toilet there see that that there is a toilet these are wicked they’re all over the place in the uk and uh you can just come in take part in there you’ve got to make sure leave it how you sit how you how you saw it you don’t want to be ruining these places and they’ve got scary people in them like that guy so from the buffy for a quick fight to eat we’re now quite high up next to this a lock right in the top of the mountains hernia beautiful eye the climb to be honest it’s uh it’s rough it’s super technical but when you get onto a rhythm oh man it’s the thrifting best [Music] but some bits you have to walk because you cannot ride them but this bit oh yeah that’s deep that was deep i nearly went over the bus oh and that one cool though adventure neil adventure [Applause] oh man that was the longest hyper bike hyper bike hiker bike of the day and here and we’ve joined the trail that we did we’ve completed kind of completed god i’m so tired we kind of completed the lollipop now we’ve made a lollipop we’re going to make that stick a little bit stronger to hold that lolly so we’ve got to go back down neil we’ve done it that’s really hard yeah that was proper challenge adventure that’s where that is we’ve just come all the way from down there all the way around that lock we still got a bit of climbing but it’s not very much still under me still 100 meters 100 meters of steepness to get up the top and that is pretty much all dyno downhill all the way to the vehicles aka all the way to the pub [Music] [Music] day one was an absolute epic trip it was a big day out it was like rain wind sunshine a lot of rain uh we were dealing with mountain weather yesterday actually i put a picture of my instagram last night and somebody had ridden it recently said uh don’t uh was don’t take care of the miles one mile up here equals like three on normal trail it was hard work the whole way around wasn’t it yeah it was in the predicted time to do it it was like three and a half hours it wasn’t we did it like we’re battling the wind today south westerly a strong south westland we’re riding southwest we are heading south west so the headwind i reckon i recommend more chance staying dry today though i think so but that wind chill is going to be cutting through our clothing like this 40k although only 600 meters climbs today so that does sound alright [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] day two started off with a fire road and a tarmac transition around the stunning coastline [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right now okay off headwind yeah it’s going to be tough this is going to be really tough 45 mile an hour gusts we did bump into two other mountain bikers then who just attempted this and gave up turned around but not even at the top because they had wind headwind and they’re on e-bikes but it’s gonna be that’s why it’s gonna be hard but it’s not that far [Music] into the wind parts of the climb to kenmore path were unrideable not because of our tired legs tough rocky steps but the wind was knocking us off our wheels you can hear right across this us [Music] less than 100 meters of climbing left they look so close on the screen but actually we’re still two kilometers ahead our pace was so slow finally dropping into the descent down the coffin road out of the cloud into the sunlight with the west coast of scotland and the isle of skype visible the distance i felt good so [Music] something satisfying about sat here looking up that valley i still feel anxious because i was 3k left yeah i know it’s nothing but i feel like until i’m done i don’t realize that that was good that was good saw some cars definitely saw some cows there’s a photo about right up on top was nasty alright nasty brutal heaven i don’t know what we did to the wind to deserve that whenever we’ve got to get to sea have we to the seaside to see your eye the skye yeah then we’re finished you want an m nice thanks okay [Music] [Applause] [Music] what an epic couple of days in the scottish islands i finally got to ride some of those trails i’ve seen so much in magazines and videos and read so much about and it didn’t disappoint some of those rock slab sections and some of that really exposed single track was just definitely something to tick off the bucket list and a really good fun adventurous couple of days with a great mate up in the scottish islands and i’m definitely coming back blake yeah there’s the isle of skye look at that i’ve got some great memories i’ve done triple therefore it’s amazing i don’t remember that ridge you see it oh it is over there somewhere somewhere young danny mccaskill’s ridge and the talisca distillery up in there we need to go down anyway four hours 18 minutes 40 kilometers thousand meters of climbing more than i thought that’s hard it said it was going to be 600 meters of climbing but yeah well it’s not being sized a thousand meters bad news is blake the world famous apple cross here and the only day it closes tuesdays today so there’s no chance of a weed around just yet it looks beautiful it does must come back that ride worth that worth that it’s worth a view it would be worth a beer as well really i think i think i’ve got enough energy in my garment to get us all the way back forty four percent that’s been yeah two days with that yeah but my legs are done so yeah um give us thumbs up also check out our commute page if you want to see the roots i definitely recommend doing them don’t underestimate how hard day one is it’s pretty tough 100 day one but it’s pretty epic couple days in target should we go and get whiskey times three yeah from where i know

How do you fine these routes? I'd love to ride up there, maybe not those trails but the area is stunning and I'd like to see more of it and not from the road. Cheers 🤙👍

  3. Love this!! Really dig Blake's camera angles at times, especially chest cam when we can observe both Neil's and his line choices through that insane terrain

  4. I did the lollipop a few months ago – was warmer and less windy than you guys had it. But my god, was tough going. Definitely epic scenery but I'm still deciding if I enjoyed it or not 😅

  5. YES!!!! Did this in 2019, my first proper big mountain ride. Everything took longer and got a bit lost, but you feel amazing up there. Highly recommended. Grippy slabs

  6. Scotland is incredible for riding, but its one of those places you just need to watch the weather and jump on a good day, rather than plan ahead, hoping its ok. Still beautiful even when the weather is bleak. Nice work guys!

  7. Love these films where you get out for some real adventures, I’ve been lucky enough to have ridden Torridon a few times and it is truly outstanding, as good as the riding in the Alps or anywhere else.
Be great to see you doing some riding in the Lakes or Wales?

  8. Well done guys in those conditions, wind sounded brutal. Did the lollipop just a few weeks ago solo and you defo get the big mountain feel especially after the massive hike a bike up to Core Lair

  9. Awesome place guys awesome single track but you young guys are soft as your comment of being screwed without a gps how have i lived my whole life with just maps ha ha oh no my map has a flat battery oh no i cant see my map with the sun on it oh that one probably want happen in scotland .😁😁

  10. I love the gmbn epic rides. I've been riding the same area the last year but improving on features. I live vicariously through your epic rides haha.

  11. Beautiful and tough! I can' see now that I'll never be able to ride that stuff (too out of shape and never had that much skill) but a wild ride indeed. Thanks for sharing and better luck on the pub being open.
