Hi folks, Quick FYI here since it doesn't look like Slide Ranch has been mentioned before on this Reddit: If you are doing the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route (north or south) and are looking to stay on Highway 1 as long as possible in Marin County, California consider bicycle camping at the Dome Camp at Slide Ranch. Slide Ranch is right off of Highway 1 and just a few miles north of Muir Beach.

Named one of Hipcamp's 50 favorite places to camp in the US in 2025. https://www.slideranch.org/

The Dome Camp at Slide Ranch is an alternative Samuel P. Taylor State Park's Hike and Bike Camp which can become crowded during the summer months.

Note: There are no shower facilities for campers at Dome Camp, but the views and sense of place are AWESOME. The camp is located about a 1/4 mile? from the Slide Ranch parking lot, but you can bicycle the trail fully loaded right to camp (at least I did).

Other benefits: you have access down to the ocean via a trail from Camp. Cooking in the Dome Camp is great way to get warm and socialize, share meals, etc. The view inside the Dome is pretty cool too. much quieter than Samuel P. Taylor's hike and bike campsite You are about 13 miles from the SMART Train terminal at Larkspur, California.

It's not cheap, but me thinks it's worth the $50 per person due to the sense of place, history and unique location.

I camped there one night on a tour and would camp there again. IMHO it's right up there with Kirby Cove campsite #1 (very hard to secure a camping reservation) for great (legal) coastal camping very near the Golden Gate Bridge.

Have fun out there,
