the challenge family brings Triathlon enthusiasts to some of the most beautiful places in the world and the French coat dor was the venue for the second edition of challenge can in 2024 this year’s event featured a strong professional field with 48 athletes competing against This Magnificent backdrop can is a French Riviera town that combines different Landscapes the event offered both a standard and middle distance option with both amateur and pro athletes being willing to give their all over a very challenging routs I know there something special about doing a Trion that’s really tough and this one looks like one of the toughest ones going so it was cool to come and yeah line up on this one and see how we go tomorrow I think it’s going to be physical to be honest uh mentally I mean is so beautiful out there it’s such an amazing place to be racing like just as you’re going up through the mountains and down the valleys you see a waterfall as you’re you know descending that definitely takes your mind off things it’s going to be more just how high can you push your legs in for how long the challenge canare was a breathtaking day with strong performances [Music] [Music] one of the highlights was the 96 km bike course which led over the foothills of the Alps and back to the Mediterranean with an elevation gain of almost 1,000 m a challenge and a test for all participants I’m really excited about the race because uh I really like the bike course it’s a lot of climbs and I really like climbing so I’m really excited about take my bike and go to to the bike Ro Co and what makes this race so unique compared to the others is just how tough that bike horse is it’s very rare that we get a bike horse with this much elevation over such a short period of time especially coming from New Zealand we just don’t get climbs that are 10 15 km long so it’s quite novel for us to point the wheel to the sky for so long in the men’s race zven Thalman from Switzerland set the pace and by Midway through the Run he’d extend ended his lead to 1 minute maintaining his position to Finish First in 3 hours 58 minutes and 53 seconds securing him a new course record by over 10 minutes not surprised but I mean the best result before this race was fors so now winning first Podium feels good right now gives some confidence for the next races for sure the women’s race was equally exciting with France’s oral Banger finishing off Victorious after 4 hours 33 minutes and 27 seconds also smashing the course record I’m so happy to win uh in my country it was just amazing and uh I wanted to cry after cross the finish line it’s a a very hard part but I like when it’s hard on the bike so for me it’s really nice to have this kind of PR the French Riviera once again set the stage for an exciting day of challenge action with the triathletes enjoying themselves over a testing yet rewarding course [Applause] w [Music] [Music] [Applause]
