ireland vlog 🚲 galway, biking the aran islands (inis mór) and autumn in dublin (book shopping)

[Music] Kurt’s running to get us a seat. [Music] this dragon [Music] when I’m alone. You hold my hand and feel away. the prois that I’ll be forever and a good morning from Gway. We took a really early train out from Dublin. They are doing some kind of construction, so we hopped on a bus to Gway halfway here. Easy trip. Um, dropped our bags off and now we’re just walking around. It’s one of our coldest days actually. It’s supposed to be nicer tomorrow. Tomorrow we’re heading to the Aaron Islands. Pray for us that that ferry is smooth. Yeah, we really want to just ride bikes and explore. Yeah, it’s a beautiful it’s a beautiful gloomy day. Kind of quiet. It’s a Sunday. Um, so I don’t know how much we’re going to get up to today. We’re really just out here. this giant there’s like this is like a um Gaelic football club and there’s probably like five or six pitches which is crazy. Um but we’re kind of just dog watching right now. Dog watching people watching um magpie watching. There’s so many magpies. So um if I don’t check in today we are going to get dough boys. Mark my words. We’re going to get Doughboys. We saw Oh, speaking of mag pies, we saw the line for Magpie Bakery. I understand that it’s worth it. I understand it’s only open on the weekends. We just did not have time to pop in. So, unfortunately, I’ll have to come back. I’ll have to come back and get Magpie Bakery, but put that on your list as well. Um, but the the line was just No, no, no, no. So, anyway, let’s get a coffee. Welcome to Gway. Welcome to the West Coast. And, um, welcome to week two of Ireland. If you want to see what we got up to last week, I’ll link it down below. But um, happy to be here. Happy to be exploring. Hello. Hey. What’s your name? What’s your name? Oh, you’re beautiful. Hello. Hello. You want a dog? I was going to ask, can we keep him, please? Hi. I tell you, he’d keep you busy. Oh, he’s already demanding. He’s begging all the time. A you’re a happy dog. Bye. [Music] to me cuz I want [Music] to walk in. [Music] You know what? Magpie’s open for 30 more minutes. Let’s see. [Music] I walk away from you and I was so far away. You know, I’m a sucker for poppy seed, especially because it’s illegal in Korea. This is really good. This tastes a lot like the poppy seed strudel. I like [Music] cast that all the shine away. [Music] to me cuz you are the world [Music] to me. Wonderful. [Music] [Music] Earlier we met Patney sisters Jules and Debbie whose eccentric father [Music] Good morning from Galway. We’re heading to the ferry. We’re going to the Aaron Islands. We’re hoping that the water is smooth. Let’s go. [Music] [Music] [Music] Maybe one day I won’t feel the same. I drive past Hollywood every day. Yeah. Are you a nice horse? Oh, you are an angel. Hi. This is just incredible. I can’t film it all because I’m on a bike and I haven’t gotten out my fancy bike camera yet. But we’re heading to the seal colony. Just But now there are people behind. We got to go. You see the seals or are they hiding? They’re hiding. We think on beyond. [Music] Say that again. Leprechaun. Recording. It’s a hate crime. I could write a book here. I feel like I should put the camera on Kurt and like mic him, you know, see what he talks about on his bike. This way. Let’s go. Touch my hand cuz I’m helpless driving. [Applause] You say who I am. Yeah, this does look like the best fish. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] I always run away. [Music] I was running my dreams. [Music] I ran away and push you away from me. And I was so scared. I was lost inside the dark. [Music] You say you are my [Music] you [Music] and it was easy for me to my skin. And when you do call me, you gave the rest of everything. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] child. We got to We’re what? [Music] How dare you sleep when I can’t breathe? Good morning from our last day in Galway. I’m getting a coffee. It’s our first sunny day. Yeah, we’re going to go get coffee and then we’re heading back to Dublin already. So, and when we’re back in Dublin, I have more updates for you, thoughts when I’m not near rushing water. Okay, much to say. the world. You blow my mind to pieces. [Music] You blow my mind to pieces. [Music] Blow my mind to pieces. [Music] You blow my mind to pieces. How dare you sing’s my favorite thing. Okay, friends. Hey, welcome to the most glamorous part of traveling carry-on, uh, laundry day. Some things to mention about Galway. First of all, as I said in my last video, everyone is just so nice and welcoming. And here’s the thing, it’s not just Irish people because so many of the people I met here are not born and raised in Ireland. The girl from the coffee shop this morning is from Ukraine. So lovely, so chatty, great. So just like the people who find themselves in Ireland are great. First of all, some things I was thinking about, especially on the Aaron Islands, if you are from the countryside of Ireland, or alternatively, if you are from the southern part of Korea and you are feeling homesick, you got to find somebody to apartment swap with because the Aaron Islands, even Kurt noticed this, the Aaron Islands reminded me so much of Goce or even parts of Jedju and Udo, especially in like the very south of Korea. And I remember going to go and being really struck by how much it reminded me of Ireland. So it’s just very interesting like for two countries that have weirdly a very similar history in terms of colonization and their fight for freedom and their the eraser of their culture, things like that. Even down to like their drinking habits and like the way that they tell stories. Both Ireland and Korea have a real attachment to like this generational trauma, but like they talk a lot about melancholy. Like it’s a it’s a culture that has so much fun, but is very sad. So, I just find it really interesting that culturally you can find so many similarities with Korea and Ireland, but you can also just geographically find a lot of similarities like in terms of literally down to the geology of it. Um, very cool. So, that was awesome. And then on the Aaron Islands, there’s a bunch of and I’ll show you. There’s a bunch of these stores, the Aaron Sweater Market. Okay, they have a store in in Dublin. They have a store in Gway. You see them everywhere. This Weavers of Ireland, I believe they’re the same. So, I kept popping in to see if they had any things that I wanted. There was a hat that I was particularly drawn to. And I’ve been actually looking, even in Korea, I was looking for this hat that it was like a beanie and it had a little rosette on it. It was sold out at the Korean store that I saw at the Aaron sweater market. It was first of all too large and second of all like kind of bad quality. Like you could already see strings and stuff coming out of it. So I thought, okay, last ditch effort. I’m going to that there was like this tiny little hut that I thought was just like almost a storage room for the errand sweater market. No, it was owned by this ancient woman. Oh my god, she was so old, so cute. She hand crocheted everything in that store like in front of you. And somehow she had a hat exactly what I was looking for, exactly my size. It was as if she used my head to measure for her crochet pattern. Like I told her this, I was like, “How did you know the exact size of my head?” And she was like, “Anyway, so that was just like a cuter memory than buying it from a place where I could literally buy it online. It’s nice to meet the person who actually knit it.” So, or crocheted it. So, um, yeah, just adorable. Does it smell intensely like sheep? Yes. Am I working on figuring out how to get that smell out? Yes. I had one more thing that I wanted to say. I’ll have to revisit. I forgot my final thought. Also, how funny that on the ride to like the ferry, which by the way, super smooth. Didn’t need to worry about it at all. Um, how funny that the ride there, they were playing just like top of the pops, you know, like they were playing just like popular music. And um on the way there, Ushers loving this club was playing. Um and then on the way back, um K-pop Demon Hunters was playing. It was just the weirdest experience. The average age of the people going to the Aaron Islands was maybe 70. So, we were just like surrounded by our elders, let’s just say, um, listening to Usher, like on a boat going to a place that has 800 people, significantly more sheep than people, and we’re listening to Usher and K-pop demon hunters. It was a bizarre experience. But anyway, I’m going to um read my book. I’m reading a really good book, Midnight Timetable by Bora Chung, translated by Anton her. Really good. I almost finished it on the train this morning. But yeah, I’m gonna let you go. Gonna throw my clothes in the dryer and we’re back in Dublin now, I think, for the rest of this video and then I’m going to start my tour. The whole reason I’m here is that I’m going on two backtoback tours with people who watch this channel, which is insane and so fun. I can’t wait. Um, so yeah, we’re going to do a whole lot more. If you’re wondering why we didn’t go to Cork or the Cliffs of Moore or the Rock of Castle, hold your horses, guys. We’ve got I’ve got a whole month in this country. So, catch you later. Please your card or your mobile phone. [Music] [Music] I was led to summer that day and I think it’s away with my down by the Good morning. We’re in Dublin again. Um, today, if I seem a little scatterbrained, it’s because I am filming a video uh for my book channel where I am reading Irish romcoms in Ireland. Um, so this morning I just sat in the books upstairs cafe. Finally got a seat. Um, and read my book. Um, now we’re heading to another bookstore. It’s going to be a bookish day today because um we’re kind of I’m trying to be chill before the real tour starts. So, um just enjoying a beautiful, beautiful day. Off we go. We’re going heading to the library project, I believe. Art books. Going to try not to buy anything. I’ve been doing well so far. So, [Music] for me. There’s a wish I never came in. I’m not in the position to see everything is great. [Music] every night. But from now on, I think that I could see every loving you. [Music] Costume change because we’re going to Grano for dinner. And I’m very excited. [Music] Same outfit, different day. We’re heading to the National Gallery to see a painting that they only show for 2 hours per week. Um, yeah. [Music] See what I just You guys, [Music] if you’re around when I come through, go sometime. I could see. Okay. I was going to go in through this entrance, but I feel like maybe I shouldn’t. No, no, no, no. I will be taking a detour. [Music] Okay, these seagulls are relentless. And I almost stay there. Um, I almost got hit by two of them and someone saw me do like a very dramatic dive. Um, that one just stole her potato chips. It’s pandemonium, but another two girls just like screamed bloody murder. So, I feel less alone in my terror. So, maybe don’t come at lunchtime. This is really scary. Like we don’t need nothing. Like we don’t need nothing. [Music] It’s just me and my baby down. What a funny day. So, I just went to the Moly, the Museum of Literature, and I ran into someone who watches my channel. So, that was very cool. They’re coming to Korea next year. Very exciting. But also, I’m working on um a video for reading romances set in Ireland while I’m in Ireland, as I think I mentioned. And ironically, they’re having an exhibition right now on popular Irish romance books. And so both books that I was reading were literally in the museum, which was just so fun. So, um, anyway, now I’m walking around the Ivo Gardens watching a dog play with a stick and people on their lunch break. Uh, the cafe in the Museum of Literature packed. Anyway, the leaves are turning right in time for our trip. I’m so excited. Um, oh, there’s a squirrel. [Music] Just me and my baby fading down. What if the time never transferred and every night we were vampire? [Music] Let’s make this one count. [Music] She’s handsome. She’s pretty. [Music] Hello. Hi. Uh, what is it? Thursday night. It is officially our 10th day in Ireland. What a wonderful trip this has been. So, it’s over for Kurt. Kurt is heading out on his own adventure while I go on the tours that I’m leading. And um I think tomorrow one of my closest friends is coming um to start the tour with me. So, I’m going to take a day off of filming um tomorrow. So, I’m actually saying goodbye here before I start filming all of our other adventures. We’re going to see a lot more of Western Ireland. We’re going to spend a lot of time in Cork. We’re going to be near Limrich. really excited for what’s to come, but just so thankful for our trip so far. I’m so glad that Kurt got to see as much as he did. We didn’t end up getting up to Belfast, unfortunately, but an excuse to come back. So, anyway, um just thank you so much for joining me. This has just been like such a calm experience. Like, I know that anywhere I go, I’m going to have just like either a fun story or like I’m just going to feel welcomed or comfortable. I will say the only place though this morning the coffee shop I think maybe I just didn’t know how to order but um calf was the only place that I didn’t feel warm. I felt a little bit like did I do something wrong by ordering? I don’t know. But everywhere else I have felt just like really happy and welcome. That lady who own the lady who works at I think it’s called Tiller and Grain where I had lunch today. So cute. I immediately felt like I was her grandchild. like it was just really nice. So anyway, I could talk about it all day. Um just very very happy to be here. Can’t wait to spend I still have like two more weeks. Crazy. So um yeah, I will catch you guys in the next video. We’re also heading to Edinburgh. We’re also heading to London for a crazy 12 hours. There may or may not be a storm hitting the day that I’m supposed to be running around London. Guys, I don’t know. We’re taking it one day at a time. I’m very excited to share the rest of my autumn in Ireland in the UK uh with you. So stay tuned for that. And um I’ll see you when I see you. Okay, but thank you to Ireland as always. See you next time. Oh, big cows. Can you see? I don’t know what my chest sees. Sorry, camera.

  1. Happy belated Halloween! It seems as if Ireland agreed with you. As always, I am very jealous, but also grateful you allow me to see what you get up to. Hope all is well with you, Cari! Thanks for all you do to help me briefly forget my troubles! 🙂

  2. The hat is so precious and looks adorable on you! If it's wool it's always going to smell a little (or a lot when wet) like sheep 😂
You could try buying a wool wash and giving it a soak to help with the smell. You'll submerge the hat in lukewarm water with the wool wash for like 10 minutes, take it out and SQUEEZE (do not wring it) the water out. Then lay it flat to dry. Wool washes come scented so it may help too.

  3. This made me miss Ireland SO much! I loved Galway. We stayed in Spiddal which was 10min away and would go to town every day for internet. Lol  I've been to Ireland 4 times now. They think I'm local, so I'm learning Irish as fast as I can. Even the customs people speak Irish at me. Haha

  4. The knitwear shop was owned by the sweetest but sassy Sarah. I wonder about her, she was very old years ago. I've been to her shop twice and loved the items she knitted. My little nieces have worn this one sweater she knitted for years and they are keeping for when they have kids. She will tell you the other stuff is crap. The cafe there is the best. Dough Brothers, they used to only be in the O'Connells garden. So good. I miss Ireland. I make myself go to other places but my heart is there. Love the video.

  5. No notification of a new upload so i had to double check your page! 🙁 i was thinking it was kinda impossible for you not to upload for 2 weeks straight (you are my Sunday breakfast companion, fyi so i really look forward to an upload).
Glad i checked! The vibes of the entire vlog is what i needed to start my Sunday reset.
    Bless you and Kurt!

  6. cariii its so nice to see you enjoying ireland, especially seeing you explore the city i run around most days TT so with that i have some suggestions. no pressure as i'm sure you've gotten plenty of recs, but just incase!
