This is a local V-Shaped trail, and part of the network that I maintain. There are three main causes of this, and the primary being somewhat poor design apropos drainage. It is however, enhanced by people riding in this area when it is wet out, and turning the tread into a water funnel. In a lot of places, this is a key part of why you're not supposed to bike when the tread is wet as wheel marks become the water funnels. In photo two, its getting close to pedal strike depth. These are things that can be fixed, but a couple of people with shovels can only get to so much of a 40mile system in a season. Before I started working here, there were trails that had to be rerouted and permenantly closed because of this, and if the wear keeps up, it will have to happen here. Maintenance like this prevents trail improvement. Even if it offers an opportunity for redesign with modern trail building understanding, this means we can't make other sections better, or add new mileage. So please, when places tell you not to ride when its wet, don't ride when its wet.
