Hello everyone. In this video, I’ll show and tell you about the interesting things you can see near Grodno in one day as part of the “Traveling Around Belarus” project. We’ll climb to the observation deck at the highest point, 145 meters above sea level, and admire the views. We’ll visit the Svyatsk Gursky estate, built in 1828 and used as a boarding house and holiday home after World War II, and is now being revived thanks to a private investor. And what’s especially interesting is a visit to the memorial complex dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War and the memory of the soldiers who defended our borders. It opened recently, but it has collected a wealth of interesting and unique information in one place. I think history buffs will find it very interesting. We’ll see a surviving pillbox and many other interesting stories and facts. But first things first. For those who wait for my videos as a guide to family weekend getaways near the city, here are my next finds. As you enter the village of Radzivilki from Grodno, there’s a wooden observation deck on the right side of the road. I don’t know who built it, when, or for what purpose, but I’m incredibly grateful to them. This observation deck is located at the highest point, with a 145-meter drop. From there, you can see the Augustow Canal and the ancient estates that are connected to Radzivilki. It’s a wonderful way to discover something new in your native land, and traveling , even on a weekend, is an adventure. The view is magnificent, everything is in full view. And if you have binoculars, you’ll have adventures and extraordinary views. The house, clearly visible from the observation deck, is the Gursky estate in the village of Radzivilki, located 3 km from the Augustów Canal. This 19th-century estate, dating from the first half of the 20th century, belonged to the Gursky family. This family was once one of the wealthiest in the area, also known for their philanthropy and entrepreneurship. For example, at the turn of the 20th century, Piotr Gursky built a starch factory in Radzivilki, and only the manor house and outbuildings remain of the Gursky estate. Of greatest interest, of course, is the cascade of five ponds located in a natural ravine in front of the estate. On the opposite bank, a park has been laid out, of which a beech and hornbeam alley, over 200 years old, remains today . After World War II, the Radzivilki estate was used as a boarding house. In the 1960s, a two-story brick residential building and a holiday home were built here. Today, the estate is being restored by private individuals, and the ponds on the grounds were dug by hand in the 15th century by Camaldolese monks. There were numerous underground springs here, each pond 3 to 4 meters deep. The elevation difference between the ponds is also significant, making the ponds visually resemble a cascade of bodies of water. When I was researching the estate, I found that they offer rooms and guest houses. Unfortunately, they were closed on Monday, so I couldn’t see anything inside. No one wanted to show me around. It’s a shame, because you can’t come here for a stroll in the park. The estate grounds, unlike the Volovichi estate, are privately owned, and tickets to the grounds or tours are not sold, nor are there any facilities for that . So, this property is exclusively for those who are considering this complex for accommodation or recreation. You can also rent cottages for accommodation, for a specific event, for example, a wedding or some large celebration when you have many guests requiring accommodation. And combine this with relaxation in such a picturesque place. Outdoors. What a reason to visit. And guests of the complex can spend time fishing or cycling. There is also a sauna on the territory. Anyway, for those interested, I will leave a link to this complex in the description of this video. Sometimes this estate is also called Small Svyatsk, so as not to confuse it with the neighboring Svyatsk Palace of the Volovich family, which I have already filmed in my videos. I will leave a link to it at the end. Well, we are moving on. And not far from the village of Radzivilki, and not far from the wooden observation tower, at a height there is also a pillbox from the Second World War. And not long ago they built it here An entire memorial complex dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War and the memory of the soldiers who defended our borders. Honestly, I didn’t even know such a place existed. I just happened to see it on the road and stopped, and it turns out it was worth it. Memorial plaques have been installed here with information you’re unlikely to find on your own. At least, all in one place. You can read about the liberation of the Grodno region. There’s even a chronology of events by date, including battles fought along the border and what the Grodno fortress complex actually looks like, for example. There’s also a lot of information about the death camps and ghettos that were established in the Grodno region, about the partisan movement, and a wealth of unique information and rare photographs. Anyone with a love and interest in the military history of the Grodno region will find it very interesting. You can come here with your whole family, and children will also benefit from learning about history. Besides, how else can you instill an interest in history in children if not through family trips like these, where they’ll tell and explain everything. Parents can read and retell everything to their children, as along the road to the pillbox there’s an alley lined with photographs of soldiers who defended our land. And almost all of them are young men, judging by their dates of birth, who joined the war at 18 or 19 years old. Well, as they say, hard times make strong men. The pillbox itself is also open to the public, and you can go inside. This fortification was built of reinforced concrete , with walls up to 1 meter 70 cm thick. This made it possible to resist shelling from large-caliber shells. All three embrasures of the pillbox are positioned to direct fire toward the front. The fortification was two-story, and the ground or underground floor housed power units and ventilation systems, quarters for the garrison, and an emergency exit. The fortification still has its original doors, brackets for attaching camouflage netting, and air ducts. Benches have been installed along the path nearby, where you can sit and relax with the whole family. Overall, it’s a very interesting and well-designed place. I highly recommend it. เฮ This is the weekend trip I took today. It’s not far from Grodno, about 30 km away, so it takes half an hour by car, but you’ll have enough memories for the whole trip. If you liked the video and found it helpful, please give it a like and leave a comment. Maybe you knew about this place or have been here. Share your opinions and impressions.
