Our cycling trip along the Danube River following the EuroVelo 6 during the Spring and early Summer of 2025 continues from Ulm in Germany to Linz in Austria. Exploring along the way and sampling lots of beers and local food.

[Music] We woke up to a rainy morning after a rainy and noisy night. Packed up and set off to Dillingen. Now than what it was when we started. Was a trickle. It was a pretty flat but windy ride today, mostly on gravel tracks by the beautiful river through gorgeous woodland. We stopped to look at the ruins of a Roman temple built around 100 AD as part of a Roman settlement. [Music] Trying to find our camp for the night. Getting a bit dark and a bit wet. We don’t know where we are. We rolled into our campsite behind a small beer garden right on the river and set up our wet tent to dry a bit before unpacking our stuff. After a good night in the beer garden, we dried our tent, had coffee and peanut butter bread roll for breakfast, and set off. for Donna worth. [Music] [Music] It was a challenging ride today with strong winds and icy rain. We sheltered during one heavy downpour in a sign before Paul spotted a beer garden and we made a push for it. What a fantastic beer garden. Obviously a local favorite. [Music] You’re supposed to ride it. It’s It’s called a push bike, but you’re supposed to ride it. Donworth is a beautiful town with its cobblestone streets and beautiful old buildings. [Music] That’s the old city wall there. [Music] And that’s all the old town inside the same [Music] [Music] We had a great night in the canoe club with beer from the vending machine and cheese and biscuits for dinner and great company with a lovely German couple. After a colder than expected night, we packed up our wet tent and got on our way to Inglestat. 67ks today. [Music] We spent half of the first 3 hours of our ride this morning pretty much pushing our bikes up steep hills, but eventually we did hit pretty flat ground and the going got easier. It was a spectacular day with warm weather and a light breeze. [Music] We stopped in Newberg for about an hour looking through the castle and the old town. Most things were closed again today as it is a public holiday. [Music] The scenery today has been beautiful, but it was definitely a highlight rolling into our campground in Englestat where we’re testing out a sleeping barrel. [Music] We had two nights in our very comfortable sleeping barrel, doing some shopping, a bit of washing, and just relaxing. We got off to a late start this morning, leaving the campground about 10:00 a.m. for our ride to Kelheim. [Music] The weather is perfect today. warm, a few clouds and a light breeze and pretty flat until a bit of a climb before Wiltonberg. [Music] [Music] [Music] We stopped for a beer at Wiltonberg Abbey and got a surprise performance of Maria in the beautiful chapel by another visitor. Amazing. [Music] We caught a ferry from Wiltonberg Abbey through the Granite Gorge to Kelheim. Beautiful scenery and a very relaxing way to travel. [Music] [Music] Another short ride with a nice steep hill to finish and we arrived at our campsite. night for the night. Banhof Farm. [Music] After a good night with delicious mushroom risotto for dinner, we had some breakfast while the tent dried out, packed up, and headed to Regansburg. The countryside has changed today with the path following the river through mainly forest in the foothills. We saw our first cruise ship heading up river. It was pretty flat and we were in Rianburg, the most northerly peak of the Danube by lunchtime, having a swim in the river before checking in to our campsite. [Music] In the late afternoon, we met a local guide at the Old Stone Bridge for a tour through the old town. We saw a lot in a short time with the benefit of Raina’s knowledge. After coffee with our guide from yesterday, we spent a gorgeous summer day exploring Rianburg, visiting St. Peter’s Cathedral and tasting some Bavarian sausages in a local cafe. [Music] After a late night and a liter of wine, we’re a bit dusty this morning. Setting off a bit later to Strobing Ruin up there on the mountain on the hill. The Valhalla Monument 286 steep steps to the top. It was worth the view. [Music] It was a long, hot, windy slog through the to strolling today, but the canoe club was very welcoming with warm showers, beer, and fish on a stick. We packed up early this morning and headed into town to get some cash and breakfast at a small wine bar. We had a coffee and the best softest croissant ever. Then we set off bed. It was a pretty challenging day today. Road works and a fair amount of time lost. The highlight of the day has to be Sunday roast in an old castle tavern in Metton. And then to make the day even better, we checked into our luxury hotel complete with rooftop pool. [Music] After a very comfortable night in our luxurious hotel and delicious buffet breakfast, we procrastinated for an hour and then set off for pass. [Music] Perfect riding weather today. And a mother’s swan brought her babies right over to the shore as if she was showing them off to us. the gorge on our way to Passau. We’re about 13ks out and the track just runs along right along the edge of the river. We rode through town to the tent camping area. right on the river Ilts and very close to the old town. We had a quick breakfast this morning and then rode into the old town, having a look at the boat harbor and the rat house before setting off for Ashak. [Music] Just leaving Pasau. [Music] That’s it. There’s the castle on the hill up there. [Music] The Danube has changed now in color and size. It’s now a milky emerald green from the river ilts flowing down from the Alps with snow melt. And just like that, we’re in Austria. [Music] [Music] At Engel Hartzel, we got our first bicycle ferry across the river. €3 each. [Music] [Music] [Music] After a short ride on the northern side of the river, we caught another ferry back across to Enzel where we pulled up for the night in a guest house. [Music] We had dinner and a few beers in the restaurant and then sat down on the boat dock to enjoy the river before bed. We were packed up and on our bikes by 8:30 this morning. We rode short yesterday, so wanted to catch up. What a lovely day for a bicycle ride. The morning was glorious. Riding along the path the horses used to pull the ships upstream. [Music] We stopped at Ashak, a lovely town at the mouth to the gorge for some breakfast and groceries. We took the chain ferry across the river at Ufffer before getting onto the dusty, dirty main road through the city of Lintz until we arrived at Plushing Sea Lake. We spent two nights at the lake swimming, relaxing, and laying in the sun. The perfect way to finish off week four of our trip. [Music]
