This morning we’re leaving Marila’s or uh harbor and we’re heading for little. No, we’re heading Well, we are heading for L. and then we’re heading for Oy camp in Germany camp. Turn left onto Sumatra while you then take the first right. So we’re leaving Denmark basically. Basically this is our last day in Denmark. Yeah. It’s already a bit disconnected, but there’s a lot sort of going on on this way out. It’s quite an obstacle course getting out. They’re packing the boats away for the uh for the winter, which is why the restaurants weren’t open. So, so now we’re turning right. Turn right onto then take the second left. Be fun here. So, this will be fun turning right. Oh, it’s easy after all that. It’s very busy here the other night. Yeah, Poppy’s get getting a bit restless here. I’m coming up to the border and we’ve got a red traffic light. Poppy, Poppy, be quiet. You’ll get arrested by the German police. We have just stopped before anyone says to let Poppy out and she has done something. So, I think it’s just sheer boredom. This is the border, isn’t it? This is where we see we stopped the other way. Y don’t look like we’re going to get stopped because checks on the other side. Or are they? Yeah, they look like they are. Okay. Bundes republic Deutseland Schlesink Holstein but we can speed up go mad on the German motorways. Wait for Trevor Sue to catch up before I do that though. Rings going here. Over there. Yeah, I know. It’s just a bit confusing there, isn’t it? That’s cuz they want you to wait here, isn’t it? Can’t even stop over here. No, I know. Glutsburg Estrasa. There’s nowhere to stop along here, is there at all? No. No. Turn right onto Orata, then take the first right. Can’t see. There’s no one. Okay. Turn right onto My Strasa. Okay. I think we came in this way, didn’t we? We went to see if we could park at the castle, didn’t we? Sure we did. Don’t think we were this far up, but we might have been. In 2 and 12 kilometers, turn right onto Hornado Asha. Really quite narrow down here, especially with the overhanging trees. There’s a sign for the campsite. All right. This way. So, everybody must have to come up here. Yeah. Should be pretty around here, isn’t it? Turn right onto Hornano Ashrasa. I’m sure that’s not how you pronounce it. Horn. Oh, can’t say it now. Horna. But actually, I thought we’d probably come up that way. Yeah, cuz I think that was the road we were on before. Oh, is it? Yeah. Can’t see yet. In 1 and 12 km, keep right to dry. You was going right. Sorry. No, you’re clear after this one. Maybe that was a bit narrower that other way. Might also be there’s something on at the castle. How is that? Maybe um it said for today there was Yeah. And maybe that’s why some signs coming up. All right. Okay. So, right to dry. Keep right to dry. 250 m. I think straight on here. It’s not in there. Not in there. No, no, no. Just trying. That’s for parking for the beach. Turn left onto Andada. Then take the third left. Up at the end here. Restaurant here. And there’s a cafe and a bar here. Yeah. So that sending that email was a waste of time. Waste of time. Yeah, I think it’s cuz it was out drive to highlight a brute. We had a like a holding email and uh we needed to book had to ring them up. I’m going to go get off road in here. So, I think let’s just have a look where by the reception. Not sure it’s that way to be honest, but I think it probably is. Yeah, I think they’re right. Yeah. Okay. She’s still trying to get us here. Yeah. She didn’t realize we’ve arrived and back. Yeah, that’s where we’re supposed to be going and back. Yeah, she said go down there down to the end of this and reverse in turn right onto the road. Well, that’s right there. Yep. Miles away. That’s plenty of room on there, isn’t it? Yeah. You’ve got to reverse on, have we? Yeah. I said reverse on. Okay. Right, here we are. Uh, pitch is a bit high at the back. We probably could have gone a bit further forward. They were a bit worried we were 8 m long, but perfectly adequate to me. Yeah, the suspension’s gone down at the back and up at the front. So, seems to have sorted it out. We’ve got water and waste on uh our pitch. So now got the hose out. Going to do a bit of laundry. Get that done. That’ll probably see us through to the end of the of the hinge. There’s electric here. Now when you plug in the electric here, they notice it’s switched on and they record it. I’m not sure how much the electric is, but we still got plenty of gas. So, we’re going to do our heating on gas. Yeah. Yeah. Here we are. Bosch machina and troer. There we are. All right. The troers. These must be the Vos machina. Yeah. F Bis 65 oral and okay it’s 60 or 90s oh if you put it on 90 it’s €6 and uh for the troper it’s €41. This is nice isn’t it? I’ve not seen like this before. This is even lighter. What’s it called, do you reckon? The beach chair? No, no, it’s called Flynn’sburg. Flynn’sburg. The beer. Oh, the beer. Oh, no. I meant the name of this seat. Go for reclining beach chair. Yeah, we’re not we’re not sure what this is called. That’s really good cuz you’re right near the beach. Plus, we got rid of the other two. Yeah, we have to. We have done. We volunteered ourselves to try the seats. Someone’s got to do it. It’s a tough job. YouTube. And if it rains, you see, you got you got a cover. Cover. Yeah. So, we’re not going to get wet. Yeah. No, that’s all right. We’re drinking our beers looking towards the sea. Well, sort of over there somewhere, isn’t it? But yeah, more importantly, we got beer. We’ve got beer. Yeah, we’ve got we got our um Flintburg. That’s it. But Bob’s bigger than mine. You’re a shame yours, Bob. I’ve got a bigger one. Cheers, folks. Cheers. Cheers. All right. Morning. Having a little wander around having Poppy’s walk. Says there’s an apple garden around here. It’s quite an interesting site. Little bit overgrown in places, but uh certainly has a lot of character. A playing area for kids. Football pitch. A cell and a mask behind there. Crab and veg. So I mean crab apples. reception area. No dogs allowed on the beach, puppy. Okay, puppy, you’re not allowed on the beach again. I’ve got these strand her chairs out here. A quite a nice little beach, isn’t it? Come here, B. There’s a thing here about a big uh uh flood they had in 1872. There’s a restaurant along here. Let’s have a look at that. Hotel restaurant. So, I might try that out a little bit later. Walking down the street. Okay, this is the bus stop. Right outside reception. Oh, we’re heading for FL. Are we heading for Flynnburg? Sorry. Finsburg. Yeah. No. Clsburg. Glugsburg. I know. But it says 21 Finsburg, doesn’t it? Yeah, that’s where it goes. Yeah. No, we’re dry, aren’t we? So, 21. Okay. There. There’s the Glrooksburg ones. Schllo Park rat house. Do we want the Schllo Park? We want the Slosh Park. Yeah. Going to go for a little um bike ride along the Hornice Peninsula. I think it’s about 10 km the route it suggested. The beach chairs there. Yeah, it’s very pleasant. quite sultry today. This is homelessness village I suppose. That’s an amazing thatch roof there up here. Pointy bit. Another pointy bit. No drone flying. Dogs on leads. Yeah. Don’t scare the birds. Okay, come to a bit of an end the path here, but that’s the end. I think betritan verbotton. But yeah, very nice. Just stop stopped to the site here obviously doing honey. Just having a little explore down here. Yeah, I think these a lot of these are dead ends. Here I am. This whole area around here is called Salt Vice. Salts vice. This is Stranded Holess just down the coast from the campsite. water sports surfing on our way back now. Go and grab a coffee and some cake, I think. So, we’re leaving Hullness. So, what did we think of this site? Um, come back again. Definitely. Yeah, it’s it’s the location of it, I think. Yeah, by the beach. And it’s got a little the little cafe. That’s nice to have. And we spent a few hours in in the cafe bar there, didn’t we? Yeah. Sitting outside with the dogs. Yeah, it’s nice because it’s right near the front. Yeah. It was terrific weather yesterday. Do you need your off-road? I mean off-road. Oh, good. and uh turn right onto and approada. Then take the second right and it was €139 that included being charged for the dog. I think electricity was was included but there’s like a nominal charge for that. Was it £3? Yeah. So it’s £122 all together. Okay. about 40 pound a night which is about average which is becoming the average isn’t it? Yeah seems to be in in you know on this tour it’s been about the average isn’t it? Well I I’ll work that out at the end what the average is but uh that’s seems to be £40 seems to be quite common now. Yeah obviously we’ve got we’ve paid for dogs haven’t we? Yeah we’re on a service pitch as well so that that makes it a bit more expensive. It’s £21 a night. Uh 20 euro a night for service pitch. Then it was um what’s an air vash center. Not sure what that is. They had two of those apparently. Maybe that’s the card for the shower. Oh, it could be. Could be. Yeah. Uh and Kotax Glsburg. How much was Poppy a night? Three €3 a night for three nights. €9. Okay. Yeah, that adds up, doesn’t it? Yeah. Okay. So, we’re on our way to Bremen. Yes. That’s our next stop. Just waiting for Tro to finish his checking out. We’re going to stay at the Steel Plats at Breman. There is a bus stop here. I I need to mention that. Uh it’s just just there. And uh it’s about well it was about half an hour ride into uh Glrooksburg but it goes around the houses. So yeah it seemed very quick coming back I think it was Yeah cuz I think it went the more direct route from Glow. Yeah, I think we’re on a slight a slightly different route coming back. Yeah, going past the castle. That was the car parking. Yeah, I think people are overnighting there.

Always enjoy your videos. Like your intro music too – good energy .
But it is former Danish Area down to Altona in Hamburg (still with Danish Border Poles to be found), as also Flensburg and Kiel, until an unfortunate war against Prussia in 1864. Which we lost, of course. And it wasn't till a Public Vote in 1920 that we got a part back, creating the present Border. So today, the Border is mostly a Language Border with minorities on both sides. The Town of Tønder/Tonder has a German-minded Mayor, and along the Motorway in Denmark you will find signs to "Knivsbjerg", which is the gathering area for the Danish, Germans. I think with a Statue of Bismarck, a prominent German Politician.
Aw every video of our holiday brings back such lovely memories . :0)
Fabulous campsite, very friendly and comfortable facilities by the beach. Sue enjoyed the beach chairs and German beer 🍻 and Trev enjoyed the tranquil bike ride with no cars to spoil the journey. Beautiful spot and the day at the Castle was a real treat 👍🏻😃🩷 Thanks for a lovely video 🚐🚐 Trev n Sue
Thank you. So enjoying this trip.
Good video.
The current Danish royal family, back to Christian IX (King 1863-1906) originates from Glücksburg, in a former Danish area.
It is fun to see familiar roads here in your video. As kids we cycled from Flensburg's Eastern suburb where my parents' house is to Holnis and its fine beach. We had friends there, a customs officer whose duty it was to patrol the beach. When his superiors found that no smuggling took place really they posted him at Kupfermühle/Krusaa (You passed the place when you left Denmark). As you noticed either the Germans or the Danes check cars and documents only from time to time or when they got information about possible human trafficking. The triangle between the towns Flensburg, Schleswig and Kappeln is the landscape "Angeln", named after the Angles who together with Saxon tribes settled in Britain when the Romans had left. Some placenames should be familiar to you. Anything on "-nis" or "-ness" is a peninsular. Think of Dungeness. "-by" means village or hamlet. There are some in Britain as well. And endings on "-up", "-rup" and "strup" mean something like "village of".
Of course it makes me proud that you liked our "Flensburger". They brew a great variety of beers from a "Pilsener" , a pale lager "Helles", to a dark ale.
The Baltic is too small for being tidal, but strong gales that last for days can press loads of water against the beach and that happened in 1872 with a devastating effect. Entire sailing ships found themselves on top of the quaysides when the water had retreated. Especially the fjords with their funnel shape are effected by those easterly winds as the water cannot get out and keeps rising.
Holnis has a stunning sand cliff. As kids we climbed it, that is many years ago. As there is the danger of erosion and as terns nest there in caves they dig into the sand, the cliff is now fenced off.
The Baltic is a very young geological formation, it has only been around since the last ice-age. Those steep sand cliffs have mostly eroded over the previous 10000 years or so to make place for what we call the "steep coastline". Once the angle of the drop between the higher land and the beach had been flat enough trees could root there. So you find beeches and alder that grow right to the water's edge, leaving only a small strip of beach that is full of pebbles and flintstones.
A "Wiese" is a meadow, pronounced like "wee-se". "Salzwiese" means that it is flooded from time to time (see above) and that the soil is therefore salty, turning it into the habitat of plants that can grow under these conditions and animals that are adopted to that as well. Ecological planning within recent years have seen to it that those areas are either protected or even restored by dismantling dykes.
