A Macs Adventure is an opportunity to change your
perspective. Being along edges of cliffs that were just sheer and looking down and instead of being
frightened just a ghast with how beautiful the colors were. It’s a color of blue I’ve never
seen before. I found myself doing things that well, I never would have done. What appeals to
me about Madeira. I’d been to Portugal before and I fell in love with the country, their
customs, the people. Another interesting part is just that you’re immersed in their culture. You’re
surrounded by their agriculture and then you come across a village that has a rum distillery. Uh,
one of the most beautiful churches I’d ever seen was in Machico, but it wasn’t that sort of cutesy
quaint thing. It was just organic. It was very real. It was people sitting out in front of their
houses and minding their banana trees, looking at all the different colors of the volcanic thing,
the rocks on the side. And I’ve got lilies growing off to one side and succulents growing off to the
other side. And there’s a lavada rolling right past me. The sound of the ocean, the waves leave around
those pebbles. I couldn’t describe it. On the day that we went up to higher altitude, you take
this ridge line over and you’re on a different mountain. You’re just amongst all these beautiful
peaks. And I certainly felt like I was among some of the tallest peaks on the island. I don’t know
how Macs Adventure picks these places. I honestly don’t. And I don’t know that I want the magic
to be ruined, but I do. I believe it’s magic.
