Day 240. 67km (91,869kms 8yrs)
I slept 10 hours cosy beside the Danube. Feeling a bit more cheery today, my mood improved yet more as I began back along eurovelo 6 beneath the read and orange leaves. This really is a stunning time of year.
A picnic bench covered in 20 discarded cans and bottles represented 1000 Forint or put another way AU$4.50 so 4.5% of my weekly spend! They’d even left me a plastic bag to gather them all up. 5kms later I’d traded them in and bought bread, cheese, yoghurts, tomatoes, and bananas with my earnings!
I’m continuing north east a bit onwards the town of Eger which I hoped to reach the following day. So I was aiming to get about halfway – 70kms or so today. A eurovelo route I joined in this direction turned out to be one of their more notional stretches. For now, it remains a quite busy road with no shoulder.
In Gödölló I visited a nice church, and the outside of a palace, but otherwise cycled through the afternoon. I fell short of my targeted patch of forest so as the sun set I turned off the main road onto a what turned about to be a very sandy track. The initial bit of forest was too close to the road so I pushed on only to find the next patch of forest fenced off. Instead I climbed up the bank towards a field lined with a few trees and found a spot between them, hidden from neither side. I reasoned there’d be no traffic on this farm track and it would soon be dark. The sky was in its final stages of orange and pink as I completed setting up camp. Dinner in the almost dark tonight.

morning. Feeling a bit more cheerful today, bit less gloomy. Um, I had a cozy night. There’s a beautiful view here. Um, there was a lot of creatures splashing around in the river last night. I don’t know who they were. Um, today I’m heading I am going east still a little bit, not too far. And then I’m going to turn around and go west. Um, so I’ve got um about 150 km to a town in Hungary and then I’ll head north to Slovakia and then start making my way home. Okay, I’m in a nice mood. It’s beautiful weather. I don’t have a proper job and it’s gorgeous here and I’m happy to be cycling for now. can make 54 in a bottle here. They’ve even left me a plastic bag to do so. A,000. That’s two pound and a bit. Wow, so beautiful. Breakfast party. So, I scored two tomatoes, two bananas, some cheese, a yogurt, and a loaf of bread for free. But I can’t recycle my own wine bottle here cuz it has a different logo. So, I think I have to take that back to Star, which is a bit annoying. But otherwise, free groceries. Good bit of around this morning, but I got my refund. I got some camping gas from Dathlon here. Um, I’ve uploaded my vlog. So, now I just need to ride 70 or so kilometers. [Music] Oh, I don’t speak Hungarian. Thank you so much. Thank you, Ken. The GPX file I downloaded has this as part of the UVL network, but it’s obviously one of the more notional parts. So, I’m glad I didn’t go out of my way earlier today to join this UVL sooner. Just stopped for a bit of lunch. But there is ladybirds swarming. I don’t know if you can see them in the air. They’re landing on my food, on my face. Uh, okay. It’s ladybird season. Can you see them swarming? One just flew into my ear. Got at least four on me right now. Some of them are black with red dots. Most of them are orange with black dots. There’s a few that are red with black dots. Either way, there’s loads of them. Oh. Uh, okay. A was lucky. I’ve just checked the map. That would have been a bonus 20 kilometers around if they hadn’t helped me and let me through. So, that’s a big piece of luck. Time to find a camp. It’s getting late, but the wind is on my side at least. Come down the track, but it’s pretty sandy. Unfortunately for me, the forest is fenced off. But there’s nobody on this track. Uh so I’m going to go up into this field. Just in time. I don’t love this campsite. It’s not really very well hidden until it gets dark, of course, but the sunset is pretty awesome. Cheers.

Pity they didn't bring in the bottle deposit return scheme in the UK like they said. Hope you get home okay and before it gets too cold.
my advice is to stay in this Country,in foot balling peoples lives when a team plays at there home ground it does give the home team an advantage
Finding drink containers that are returnable was a bonus; free groceries! We have return bottle programs as well where I live in Western Canada. 👍 Continued safe travels. 🚴🏼♀️

Yeah 👍
No one will ever bother you in Hungary
Are you still following the Danube erovelo route and does this change when you head south? Im surprised at how many hard top cycling paths there are.
