I’m Riccardo from Florence, founder of Tuscany Bike Route.
Over the past few years I’ve been mapping and testing long-distance routes across Tuscany—usually 150-450 km—connecting quiet gravel lanes, medieval towns, and local trattorie.
A few things I’ve learned that might help anyone planning a self-guided ride here:
- You can ride days without hitting traffic if you link the old farm roads.
- Spring and autumn are the best seasons—cool air, green hills, and empty villages.
- The real challenge isn’t fitness, it’s logistics: luggage, water stops, and where to sleep after long stages.
I built Tuscany Bike Route to make that part easier for riders who want the adventure without the bus tours. Not a race, not a guided convoy—just routes that feel like a local friend drew them for you.
Happy to share maps, tips, or my favourite overnight spots if you’re planning to ride Tuscany.
