Back in July I decided I wanted to get back onto road biking and I got a Van Rysel EDR AF which is a pretty good bike and served me well so far. I rode about 2k miles since July and constantly been improving. I am still content with the bike I have but of course there’s the itch to get a better one.

I don’t race, I mostly ride alone, sometimes group rides, usually 30-50 miles with the odd 60-100 miles ride. I live in an area with plenty of climbs.

I would like to get something that is good at climbing and has good enough aero profile, a do it all bike that’s fairly comfortable for longer rides too. Electronic shifting, disk brakes, carbon. As light as possible, as fast as possible 🙂

I’ve been looking at a few bikes and they’re a little bit all over the place but would be great to hear your experience with any of them. Here’s what I’ve been considering:

* Factor Ostro Vam: $8500 [https://factorbikes.com/bike-builder/ostro-vam-shimano-ultegra](https://factorbikes.com/bike-builder/ostro-vam-shimano-ultegra)
* BMC Road Machine ONE: $7000 [https://www.bmc-switzerland.com/us\_en/catalog/product/view/id/17788/s/bmc-roadmachine-one-23/category/1906/](https://www.bmc-switzerland.com/us_en/catalog/product/view/id/17788/s/bmc-roadmachine-one-23/category/1906/)
* Trek Emonda: $7700 [https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en\_US/bikes/road-bikes/performance-road-bikes/%C3%A9monda/%C3%A9monda-slr/%C3%A9monda-slr-6/p/37314/?colorCode=blue](https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/road-bikes/performance-road-bikes/%C3%A9monda/%C3%A9monda-slr/%C3%A9monda-slr-6/p/37314/?colorCode=blue)
* Cannondale Supersix EVO 2: $5500 [https://www.cannondale.com/en-us/bikes/road/race/supersix-evo/supersix-evo-2](https://www.cannondale.com/en-us/bikes/road/race/supersix-evo/supersix-evo-2) (not yet available but coming soon)

Anything else I should consider? Is this the best time to buy a new bike? I’ll be riding indoor until spring so I don’t need an upgrade now.

Will I actually see noticeable improvements in my speed? Should I just lose 5-10 pounds and call it a day? 🙂

I plan on testing as many bikes as I can but I would like to take them on longer rides and compare with my current bike. Are bike shops amenable to that?
