Gozo’s International Kite & Wind Festival — by bike! MTB POV through Għarb (Gozo, Malta) to the San Dimitri fields with Force-4 winds and a sky full of giant character kites. Short, colourful ride with location labels.
We roll into the village under hundreds of blue butterfly kites, then ride out to the festival grounds near the Chapel of St Dimitri, a site wrapped in local legend. Families, locals, and visitors gathered to watch giant character kites—from octopus and aliens to Santa Claus, Tom & Jerry, Nemo, Harry Potter & Ron Weasley, Pinocchio & Jiminy Cricket, Daisy & Louie Duck, and the Smurfs—soaring above Gozo’s countryside. Riders’ treat: I weave gently through the fields beneath the kites, staying off the rugged coast this time and soaking up the spectacle.
Participants this year included teams from Italy, Germany, the UK, France, Lebanon, and Bulgaria—a proper international mix. If you’re planning a fall trip to Gozo, Malta, put this outdoor event on your list.
