The 2026 Tour to France route has just been announced and these are the five things that you need to know about it. There are 21 stages, seven flat, four hilly, eight mountainous, five of which are summit finishes and two time trials. The first of which, stage one, is a team time trial. The second thing you need to know is that the rules for this team time trial have changed. The time of the team is now counted as the first rider across the line compared to previous editions where it was the fifth. And this opens up the possibility for interesting team tactics where riders perform lead out hero turns and then die in order to help their leader. Three, this year’s race starts in Barcelona and the first three stages are in Catalonia and the first summit finish of the race comes on just stage three. Four, the race features Albu twice. Stage 19 features a traditional summit finish up the Alp followed by stage 20 which follows a brutal route similar to Lamar Mott before finishing up the backside of Aldo via the Seren and five the final stage of the race will be in Paris and will feature again laps of the Momm climb which will make it hard for a traditional bunch sprint on the Shel.
