From the North Cape to Finnsnes on Svenja
On June 28th, I traveled directly to Finnsnes on Svenja with Hurtigruten. I treated myself to the luxury of a food package and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise feeling with the rhythm of rest – food – rest for just one day.
We arrived in Tromsø under the midnight sun, and I managed to take a wonderful photo of the midnight sun. At 5 a.m., we arrived in the port of Finnsnes. At 5 a.m., I set off from the harbor in the rain, bundled up in rain gear. First, we crossed a high and long bridge from Finnsnes to Silsand on Senja. Because of the weather, I barely noticed any of Senja's scenic beauty. Here, too – still north of the Arctic Circle – the weather, the temperatures, and the snow-capped mountains were arctic cold. Finally, the rain stopped, and the sun even came out a bit. I muster up my remaining strength to catch the ferry to Andenes in the Vesteralen. I finally board the ferry, literally right behind the last car.
From Andenes on Andoya, I drive another 20 kilometers in fine weather to a beautiful campsite right on the beach. I set up my tent, take a shower, and bake myself half of a giant pizza I bought from the campsite shop in the well-equipped kitchen, along with a beer. Then I take a long walk along the beach in the midnight sun. Shortly after midnight, I lie down in my tent and—tired as I am after the almost 100 strenuous kilometers—immediately fall asleep despite the light.
