Hi all, my beloved Specialized RockHopper that I've had since I was like 12 has been stolen. It was with me all through high school, college, and 8 years pounding the pavement in NYC before getting nabbed out of my garage in Denver. The AirTag on it had just died and I hadn't gotten around to replacing it yet. Bummer.
So I want some recs on a good replacement. I loved that the bike was a very nimble hybrid – 26" wheels with knobby tires, excellent front suspension. It jumped over curbs and potholes in NYC perfectly without having to push around too much tire, and could cover decent distances since the suspension wasn't super soft.
New RockHoppers appear to be true modern hardtail mountain bikes with 29s, and I think that's too soft for the city commuting I'd be doing with this bike.
I'm thinking about the Specialized Sirrus X 4.0. Any recommendations for comparable bikes I should check out?
