dino racing is often referred to as the formula one of mountain biking you know what formula one ain’t cheap yeah i’m trying to buy a formula one car anyway can you ride an old cheap downhill bike hard and fast today we’re gonna find out with the presenter challenge [Music] oh [Music] blake what bike have you got oh neil oh absolute look at it kind of stinky deluxe doesn’t look very deluxe it is delicious it’s green look at it it’s got a dmr sticker i got an oil saddle so that’s like right now this is like it’s the most that’s yeah monster which i actually swapped it out for they had some junior tees mizochi on there i actually swapped them because they were broken because the price i got it for was an absolute bargain i got a hope front hub and i think that’s a mavic d3 is that a saint whoever that’s a saint caliper talk about oh it is as well i can’t even think of that but i got sober tooth tiger for a roto look at that yeah stopping power is gonna be not so good though richard what you got well neil the mongoose black diamond circa 2006 monster t’s two shock positions neil ahead of its game you might say an andrew needing replica it is indeed yeah it’s a urt which basically means it doesn’t work that’s a rubbish turd exactly right wow i’m stoked fun stem skeletal breaks skeletal uh yes skilly or still a thing um seat doesn’t go any lower because it will hit the shock otherwise i think we’re good to go black diamond right could you hit black diamond no we’ll find out neil what have you got oh that is a da vinci wilson it’s actually the most up-to-date of all of these it’s got a boxer up front it’s got olive brakes scott stevie smith bars holy cups are they cups way too wide because they’re wider than the bike is long this is actually a medium and it feels like a child’s bike black box stevie smith bars but i’m quite happy with that no yeah what a lineup of weapons we have incredible all 26 inch wheels 26 ain’t dead today they’re out all right two terrible bikes and one that looks all right to me yeah so time to see what our first challenge is yeah here we go well here he is big man big man with a big avalanche what we got neil shiny charge number one the price because all important i guess yeah come on guys let’s be honest now how much do you each spend on your bike the cheapest and best value that’s that’s that’s a different thing yeah yeah it gets three points but be careful go too cheap to catch right later as for every mechanical throughout our day filming you’ll lose one point someone’s gonna punch you i don’t know like how much yours cost mine cost 350 pounds 350 quid but i it was cheap for an obvious reason because at a closer inspection the front fork the misogy junior tees were cracked and i actually put my personal monster teas on that i bought in 2005. pretty cheap richard 500 big ones for this this fine example of a downhill bike half a grand you could get something oh grand don’t say it like that sounds terrible i’ve changed the cranks put some fresh grips on ready to roll i would like to say i’ve done nothing to this ah this is doesn’t look like it’s been ridden very much to be fair it actually looks orange i mean why would you want to ride it yeah no i wouldn’t i wouldn’t it’s a place for feel free to get the points there we go rich two three one now the prices have been given it’s time for the next challenge oh big man we’re gonna ride gold envelope time let’s see what we got number two he’s rather big isn’t he look at him challenge number two whip off on a 470 trail here at bike park whale straight in no warming up then no straight in little by the looks of it free ride rig man style points are just as important as going fast no not true yeah it is true what about the right 24 hour points all right no each rider is going to have three goals of putting the best looking whip down the a470 trailer three goes no warm up three goes three goes by one last one go for warm two to try all right yeah the winner who however the cameraman will be judging who gets the best sideways whip i’m gonna swap out this for a full face i would because that front end looks rather cheesy you know i’ve bribed one of the camera man he’s got one of my e-bikes currently at the moment so you know he’s got the other e-bike to the trail then right we’re here at the top first impressions of your bike we got to ride here dreadful plush is it i quite like mine yours mine feels good except when you take off all i can feel is the front wheel bearing mine just goes bang through the travel i have the very i have such narrow bars feeling confident about whips got loads of space to move the bars yeah watch this all right [Music] [Music] we’ve all put in two runs this is the final countdown of whips how are you finding it uh yeah it’s always funny it’s crazy riding a weird bike in it now yeah this bike feels pretty good so far so i’m yeah i’m into it oh okay i feel all right i’ve got really narrow bars i feel good feels like we’re doing what we did in the 90s and push up all the time [Music] oh my god [Music] what do you think cameraman well judge right cameraman put us out of our misery who whose whip was winning [Music] stinky deluxe though it’s the official supplier to the whistler man by park that bike in 2004 yeah probably yeah second place for two points good right we’re back down at the cafe and i think it’s time for another challenge let’s see what we’ve got big man thank you okay challenge number three desirability everyone wants their bikes to be cool your challenge is to ask people around the park to pick the coolest oh let’s go and find some punters eyeing up the bikes already i can i seen you checking out the three we’ve got here if you had to pick one excuse blake out the way which would it be the one with the red forks oh that’s the da vinci good choice excellent choice right i wouldn’t have chosen that one personally but thank you very much right let’s find someone else thank you okay let’s go to this table hey up gents how we doing very good right desirability time we’ve got our three retro downhill bikes lined up over here [Laughter] if you’ve got a choose one what are you going for i think the mongoose i’d go with the mongoose as well i’d go with the kona hang on right this round here i’ve done mine the mongoose with the boxer forks oh okay combo hang on yeah i’ll go to the mongoose oh kind of away oh this guy’s biased and mongoose wow would you look at that the mongoose i didn’t count how many votes was that one about four votes for the mongoose hello guys how are we doing okay desirability time our three retro bikes over there i’m not saying whose is who but you’ve got to pick one which you think’s the fastest the fanciest kona okay well i’d definitely go to the mongoose it’s proper old school oh mongoose it’s proper old school hang on and it’s gonna even you out because i like the one with the red triple clamps ah that is an old da vinci okay wow the da vinci finally getting a vote there but the mongoose still coming off pretty strong gents the results are in i’ve not counted but i don’t need to the mongoose won and i’m not even voting for the mongoose and it’s mine ah how’s that possible look how ugly it looks so it’s three points to the mongoose the arguably the most horrendous bike here two points to the kona that’s yours blake dude i’m afraid whatever i mean come on people are just wrong right all right there we go people are wrong you’re all wrong people sorry mongoose i got three points lovely i feel another challenge coming on yes indeed where’s big man there he is the gold envelope is back so this is challenge number four oh handle the whoops blue cross supercross time to test your bike suspension we’re going to film some slow-mo’s of you hitting the moto whoops on vanta line oh we said anaheim yeah a1 no the bike that stays the stillest over the whoops wins the point survives more like okay good luck yeah good luck everyone okay well to the whoops i think faster might be better you know [Music] oh my gosh this thing’s horrible now you can’t right so we’ve reviewed the footage and um i i looked really horrible short wheelbase did crap geometry super steep yeah but i feel like it’s between you guys and i i think it went i think it went to neil yeah i’ve got the advantage of i reckon two or three more years on there so the angles in this bike are pretty good it feels actually really good small it looks good going through i’m enjoying it that is still quite steep and your urt rear ends the back end doesn’t move that well i’m just pleased to get through it so andrew neither did get a top 10 i woke up congratulations neil three the dream dos next challenge challenge five then challenge five where is big man big man neil neil he is big isn’t he big man he’s a tall guy can you get from you what we got neal challenge uh number five is right fastest dino bike through the rough stuff we’re gonna put your bikes as well as your nerves again to the test see who has the highest speed through a rock garden rock guy you love rocky this feels more dangerous [Laughter] rocks all right let’s go find rim dinger maybe rim ding a dinger come he’s big a big man isn’t he big man’s a big man oh that’s two of us neil that’s yeah but you’re little man true room dinger sounds not very inviting does it no but we’ve got a speed gun and we’re gonna go as fast as we can down here officer samson on duty i am officer sampson and if you do not go fast enough you’re gonna buy lunch you don’t go faster than that no it’s all about speed on this one fastest one wins you know this is not the modern era these bikes i’m gonna say i lost so many races in the late 2000s due to punctures that’s going to be our problem we’re all running tubes no trees yeah 26 inch tubes right there’s a frost section just down there i’m going to stand there sell this neil’s going to drop rich you’re going to drop i’ll drop last sunday ready okay now it is between the two races at the top neil and rich have raced kneel down downhill we all know that rich has done enduro i am a free racer but i’m going to give it my absolute helpful leather so let’s see who’s coming predict it 42 43 it’s all because of that drop if you are able to send that drop you’re in for a win [Music] nice one red 43 i’ll take that on this thing all day long i think me and blake will be pretty tight i reckon i reckon that bike isn’t going to be as fast the angle is rough i don’t feel like that bike’s gonna be that good at playing over rough stuff fast true but blake has momentum on his side should we say he’s very he’s quite a dense human being i shan’t add anything to that ew 44 43 44 45 44. 45 is my limit here it comes look at him peddling look at him done by one i got 45 46 43 43 oh that’s good some paste still in it yeah he’s pacing that’s some pace down there still feels fast in it yeah it feels so on the limit like it’s so on the edge that feels like downhill properly like oh man yeah that there’s that right little right-hander yeah just towards the tree yeah you can see like elbows in i tried i was looking at the slab gap so you can straighten it yeah so the results are in the don 46k an hour the samsung 45k an hour the poon 43 so three points two points uno nice my skeletal breaks don’t slow down that good i’ll be honest my shimano dior’s is not the same with saint california very well all right it’s the last challenge time where’s big man it’s not hard to find there he is size of him how big is he’s so big this is the last challenge everyone yeah and it’s a serious one it says serious it’s a downhill race getting serious going faster on a full run is ultimately what these bikes are built for obviously that’s more of a freeride bike if i’m honest free racer scott bottle cage mount so that sort of says it’s not a diane elbow okay all right so we’re gonna be racing down 50 shades of black right there not grey bike park whales has a timed run fastest one wins but there’s a lot more to fight for on this challenge okay double points perhaps double point double points so that’s six for first one we’re at the start [Music] three two one go oh i’m off [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] come on mongoose power oh my god [Music] oh oh there we go yes oh wow [Music] so [Music] right the times i’ve checked the gopros uh blake you sat off first you went straight into the hot seat yes 402. nice one uh until rich came down you did 359. oh three seconds and then neil that’s me that’s it [Laughter] so i got two points quick maths no yeah yes correct i got four double points got a double point so you’ve got six points so what is the points in the overall then i do not know big man how did you reach him he’s so actually neil’s great really quick math sir sorry the final points i mean really these points goes to bites not to us that’s true it’s very true yes it’s all about the bike so in joint second place should we say joint available i’ve really enjoyed riding this the real question is would you take that bike home and ride it richard no not in a million years it was horrendous it was it was a rough ride i think that does it pre-dated yeah it was funny blake yeah ugly that thing all right i would take this i would take this home for sure neil i would definitely i think a couple of simple upgrades this bike would be well good the brakes are good everything works it’s a bit rattly but yeah i’ve really enjoyed riding actually i’m gonna do a backup video we’ll talk about these bikes how much they cost us how if we didn’t have to do any work to them so can you buy a good dining fight for less than 500 pounds i’ll follow up all right boys that’s it then we’re done for the day neil congratulations you blitzed us yeah nice do you know what if you enjoyed that thank you very much for watching give us a little like down below they can subscribe don’t forget neil’s follow-up video as well but we’ve still got a bit of track to rattle down and then we’re off out of here thank you very much from all of us and we’ll catch you next time see ya like amazon bike or constantly oh good question not a million years amazon kona all the way 100

  1. its crazy how expensive decent bikes are for a new one i just got my first good one after loads of used ones its its a big differences in my skill alone by getting a good bike

  2. โ€It's not about us, it's about the bikesโ€ – still Neil killed them with half a minute on his run and would have probably done similar on any of the bikes. Probably the best would have been to see all 3 guys on all 3 bikes and then compare bikes. Nice one, though.

  3. ๐Ÿคฃ The 80's Arcade fx
Some people have to work to enjoy. But these guys are enjoying at work. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ’ช.
It's amazing how you guys did all those runs with inner tubes.

  4. Brilliant price's really I had that Kona back in the day was an amazing bike want to get back into it I was looking at kne the other week there back to 800ish for a newer stinky but loved my green and orange one I had a couple but been trying to find another ATX TWO original don't care what anyone says best bike ever and the memories it holds for me is unbelievable I do want to try a modern DH see what the difference is but 90s styling was just incredible

  5. The points go to the bikes? The last time I checked, it's the rider, not the bike. I have a 2011 commencal dh, and I smoke these "keeping up with the jones's" and their 8k bikes. Posers with expensive bikes ๐Ÿ˜‚

  6. To call cyclists riding a $600 bicycle โ€œcheapโ€ is sad and pathetic. Those knuckleheads are clueless about what cheap means to most everyday people. ๐Ÿ˜ข. Iโ€™d rather ride a Dandy Horseโ€ฆ( not cheap, but itโ€™s the very first!)

  7. Hi people. I've just purchased myself an GIANT DH COMP 2003 it's in pretty good shape however I don't seem to be able to find any info or videos for it on YouTube. Was this bike any good? It looks an absolute beast. I pick it up this Friday. Would appreciate any information opinions on it. Thanks

  8. Back in 2000 Mongoose had stopped selling a part my mate needed for his 4 year old bike, an 'Amplifier' MTB from memory. When he wrote to them asking if they could supply one after all the shops said they couldn't get it , they sent him a cap, a current catalog and a sorry bad luck letter instead. What a pack of fucking dogs. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I truly enjoyed this I was born in the late 80s and we couldn't afford any sort of fancy bikes like that so I always had to you know save up and purchase all the old beat up stuff and then just slowly upgrade and basically everything that I ever used to upgrade was secondhand and I like to think that you know I was able to be quite competitive I was more of a free ride guy I was all about hitting jumps drops riding ladders jumping gaps stuff like that I've never done downhill racing I've got a bit of experience in dirt jumping but mainly a bush bike kind of person just f**** whatever comes at me and I do a lot of urban free ride as well. For my birthday this past year I bought myself a free ride bike from 2004 and it's a little project that I'm trying to put together and scrounging up as many period correct parts I'm pretty excited to be able to ride it.

  10. Niel's DaVinci sounds like somebody's shaking a bag of tent stakes, but the finale run was impressive. Nice job keeping the rubber side down fellas!

  11. IMO, the thumbnail is a good depiction of GMBN.
A buch of clowns advertising new products while making fun of older used bikes.

Exactly what challenge was depicted in this video?
Because I theorise there's thousands of MTBers who aren't socially conditioned via marketting and advertising channels like this one, to constantly upgrade, thus continue to enjoy riding their older rigs.

  12. These are okay bikes; nothing weird about riding them. OMG. I thought you would ride the legit cheap piece of garbage that normaly only kids ride. Typical click bait ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am out
