A 4-day trip. Only partly powered by sun, because it was often overcast.

This video provides some real-world data on camping/bikepacking with an e-bike and charging it with a solar panel that you can carry with you. I refer to it as lazy camping since there is absolutely no rush involved. There are no hard-set targets; the only goal is to have fun and collect some data. I will continue making trip videos, so check back later for new ones, or even better, subscribe to get notified.
I completely acknowledge that this type of camping is not for everyone. There are lots of bikepackers who thrive on covering long distances, toiling away the whole day. However, I suspect that as we age, we tend to gravitate towards more comfortable ways to enjoy this activity. Whatever your preferences are, I hope you’ll find the videos interesting or even useful.

[Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] And again border crossing. [Music] Okay, here I am in Chopron. I didn’t plan this detour, but while I was watching the flying crane assembling the wind turbine, I realized I had forgotten to bring my sleeping bag. So, I had no choice but to make a stop at Chopron’s decadelon store and buy a new one. [Music] I stopped at a small restaurant to charge. It was nice to see that they were prepared for electric bikes with sockets specifically designated for that purpose. So, I’m charging now while drinking a beer. [Music] Wow, this should be even better. Yes. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Good Morning. I slept extremely well. Tonight was very peaceful. What are these geese doing? They’re coming back. See? So the night was peaceful and uh I slept nearly 8 hours which I rarely do. So the sun is still weak. Still we have 32 watts of power right now. I’m all set. Let’s hit the road. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Hello. Can you tell me what this is? Some kind of festival? Sorry. No. Okay. I didn’t know what what this mass is. Okay. Big bank like Lincoln Park slip mode. Mhm. I see. Okay, thank you. 300,000 people. Jesus. Good luck. [Music] So now we are at this special spot where three countries meet. There is even a table which uh as the description tells us allows all three nations to sit and discuss whatever conflicts they may have. [Music] This is the Austrian side. [Music] the Hungarian side, Mador side, and the Slovakian side, Sloveno. And here you can see a remnant of uh the original iron curtain. This was the barred wire fence that separated the west from the east. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Well, today the weather is a little bit overcast. cast. However, there’s still some sunshine as you can see. I’m making good use of it. I still have to charge a little bit more. And um I’m now at 55% around 55%. So I would need a few hours of sunshine to to bring up the bike to the point where I can start the day. And I would like to get the most of the sun while I can because if the forecasts are true then uh there will there will be rain. So, right now I’m waiting for the bike to charge and then and then we hit the road. Anyway, the night was fine. Uh, I slept extremely well. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] So, everything is set up and now I’m charging. I was forced to use the sucker because there’s simply not enough sunshine. So, yeah, a little bit rest up here and some charging. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Okay, looks like I found the place. This should do. So, I’m here now in my cozy tent. Uh, it’s a bit of a mess here because I had to put it up real fast. It’s still raining, so I’m stuck here in the tent. Um, let’s hope that tomorrow the weather will improve. I hope very much so. I plan to go further today, but I run out of juice and uh I didn’t want to stop again at the pub. I hope that tomorrow will be a better day weatherwise and I can charge my bike. I still have about 60 km, 65 km to go. Good morning. Well, the morning is not so good. In fact, um I was hoping that today it will be a nice sunny day. However, as you can perhaps see, it’s still very cloudy. So, I’m in a bit of dire straits right now. I cannot charge. I will have to pedal almost all the way because I’m down to I don’t know 10% or less on the battery. Uh during the night I also depleted my phone. I don’t know how it happened. Um, I listened to some podcasts and uh but I I switched it off but this morning it turned out that it’s only at 11% I guess. So I’m in desperate need of those electrons. Otherwise, the night was great. It was windy, but it didn’t bother me much. So, I found this so-called uh biker rest stop at in in Bed and um well, it turns out to be more like a playground for children, but uh and I don’t know what is uh barnlike structure is. But uh anyway, I found a wall socket in it that works and uh I could plug in my battery to charge. So, I’m happy. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Connect. Don’t shop by [Music] Heat. [Music] Hey, heat. Hey, heat. [Music] I don’t know if you can see it, but on the ridge there, there is a deer. Let’s make a photo. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music]
