Name: Jan-Willem van Schip
Date of Birth: August 20, 1994
Place of Birth: Schalkwijk, Netherlands (near Utrecht)
Height & Weight: 1.94 m / 83–84 kg
Current Team: UCI Continental Team Parkhotel Valkenburg
Disciplines: Road & Track Cycling (focused on endurance events on the track)

Van Schip is known for his experimental and unconventional bike setups.
He often tests extreme configurations such as ultra-narrow handlebars or unusual seatpost angles, which have occasionally led to technical regulation violations.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he was disqualified in the Madison event for head contact with British rider Ollie Wood, resulting in a fine.
Later that year, during the UCI Track World Championships Elimination Race, he received a suspension for making an “obscene and explicit gesture” toward race officials.

Despite these incidents, Van Schip has shown remarkable consistency over the years, maintaining high rankings in multiple cycling performance systems and earning respect for his bold racing style and endurance.

Something looks off about the rers’s position on this road bike. Wow, this is just getting out of control. Yan Villum Vansip starts pushing forward at an incredible pace, taking the lead. If you look closely, the handlebar stem is unbelievably long, and he’s riding in an extremely narrow handlebar position. He eventually finishes third, but the UCI disqualifies him for a rule violation without mercy. They said it was because of a non-compliant seat post. Although there was no such restriction in the rulebook, this whole setup is truly the pinnacle of aerodynamics.

  1. He has a time trial seat post which places his body above the crank arms. This is a great position for the flats, but a terrible position for climbing.
