Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!

Today’s video used a lot of help from some friends of mine 🙂

If you’re new to my channel and videos, hi! I’m Evan Edinger, and I make weekly “comedy” videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I’m also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I’ll see you next Sunday! 🙂

If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I’ve listed each item, what it’s great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

  1. They did a practice car free day in Oxford street just last month. Apparently it went well, and they plan to do more with the hope of making it permanent eventually.

  2. I've been to Paris as a kid in 1979, 1991, 1993, 2006, 2007 and last time 2018 with my 3 kids. I love the city, but hated the diesel cars. It seems it changed a lot since 2018. Unfortunately, I can't just buy a £40 train ticket like some YouTubers… It's a 6.5 hours flight from Montréal.

  3. Cobblestone, Cobblestone, Cobblestone, Pie,
Why does a YouTuber, I don’t know why. Ask me a riddle and I reply,
    Cobblestone, Cobblestone, Cobblestone, Pie.

Nice video – thanks. Hong Kong has some good cycle infrastructure in the New Territories, but the rest is not so good (at all).

  4. This is lovely. If I could cycle year-round safely in my home i would. But as it is, it just isn't safe. And for some reason they don't plow the bike lanes in the winter. One day I'll like in a walkable city.

  5. The last time I drove in Paris was in the late 80s. It was definitely completely different, so many more cars, the pollution was terrible. Looks like they are doing a great job.

  6. Watching his brought back some trauma I thought I'd suppressed. When I was a student back in the late 1970's, me and a couple of mates did a 3 week cycle-camping trip in France including Paris. Full on front and rear panniers, front and rear saddle bags, the bike was almost impossible to actually lift. Going around the Arc de Triomphe over those ghastly slippery cobblestones on a heavily laden bike in pouring rain was the most scared I've ever been. Traffic seemed to coming at us from all angles.

  7. Unsurprisingly, when you put cycle paths in, and then let the cyclists just, y'know, ride their bikes instead of forcing them to stop every block or two, the cycle paths get used. Wish the local government could sort this bit of info out for our lanes…

  8. Every time you say "cycle paths" I hear "psychopaths" 😅. A word that describes cycling in most American cities… basically you share the car lanes for the most part. When you have a bike lane, its between the parking lane and the car lane, so theres a high risk of being "doored" (parked car opens its door across bike lane at last minute as youre barrelling toward it). I once broke a tiny bone in my wrist and Dr said "bicycling in the city huh?" I adked how did he know. "Broke your snuffbox. A fractured snuffbox is almost always a cycling accident in city traffic."

  9. Please come to Switzerland, specifically to Basel, the city of cycling, and do your cycle test here! 🚴‍♀️ By the way, it’s only 3 hours from Paris by TGV and about 1 hour from London with EasyJet or BA. I hope I’ve convinced you! 😊

  10. Despite your 11 years in the UK and a UK passport you seem not to have understood the basic axiom of being a Brit: no French man/woman, City, idea can ever best a comparable British one. All the rest flows from this axiom.

  11. Maybe you can do the same with British and French cities which are not the capital because governments often invest the most in their capital even per Capita

  12. I wish I was here to help you around Paris ! the bike lanes aren't perfect but once you know where to go and how to use them, it's not that bad. Sure, I know that ideally, a good bike lane network shouldn't need prior knowledge to use, but that's how it is for now lol

You didn't use the right path on Concorde, there's a ton of bike infrastructure but you somehow ended where there's not. There's a whole cycling lane going around the Arc de Triomphe BUT you have to go on the outside ring, not inside ! It's very dangerous

The mayor of Paris isn't directly elected by parisians, but by the mayors of the 20 boroughs of Paris. So, she mostly enacted stuff in the boroughs that elected her, that's why the wealthier arrondissements in the west have terrible bike infrastructure but the center and the east have nice bike lanes. So, boroughs of Paris do fight each other, but they get to do what they want in their own, somewhat.

If you come back to Paris, I'd love to show you around !

  13. Evan, ca 3:45, Big Ben is the bell, the tower is called "Elizabeth Tower" (formerly "Clock Tower"). If you were a ferriner" in the US and made a similar mistake, ICE would be all over you!
