Wrexham AFC Kop Stand Construction Update | October 2025
In this video, we take another aerial look at the massive Wrexham AFC Kop redevelopment at the historic Stok Cae Ras. The site has changed dramatically this week — rollers flattening the newly excavated areas, LED grow lights repositioned, and even some painting work inside the Tech End stand. You can also see exposed underground metal piping believed to belong to the old Kop stand, now being cut up and removed by construction crews.
The 20-second timelapse shows around 25 minutes of real work, revealing the incredible effort behind every stage of preparation. From ground compaction, site grading, and fencing removal, to lighting rigs, utilities, and piling readiness, the site is nearly flat and primed for the next phase of development.
These early stages are crucial — they’re the foundation for the future 7,500-seat Kop stand that will transform the matchday experience for Wrexham fans. As always, progress continues behind the scenes, even when it looks quiet from the outside.

I flew over yesterday evening to check if anything had changed at the site. The LED grow lights had been repositioned again, likely to nurture a new patch of the hybrid surface. But what really stood out was a long stretch of exposed metal piping that a digger had unearthed. It ran deep and extended across a considerable section of the site. And judging by its position, it most probably belonged to the old cop stand. When that structure came down, much of its underlying infrastructure stayed buried beneath layers of soil and tarmac until now. These underground metal pipes are the unseen skeleton of older stadium systems. They were used to carry water, gas, or drainage, or sometimes served as protective casing for electrical lines. In older grounds like the stock Kyrass, it’s not uncommon to find a mix of cast iron, galvanized steel, or even black iron pipe still lingering from decades past. Whatever its exact function, it’s a fascinating glimpse into the ground’s industrial history. A reminder that every scoop of soil here reveals another fragment of Rexom’s long football story, hidden just beneath the surface. The digger carried on excavating, and over on the left of the frame, you can spot a worker cutting the pipe into smaller sections, likely for disposal or recycling. It’s a small moment, but it adds another piece to the puzzle of what lay beneath the old cop. This short 20 second time lapse actually spans about 25 minutes in real time, showing just how methodically the team are working across the site. Each movement of the digger, each cut of metal is part of the careful process of stripping away decades of buried infrastructure to make way for the new stand that’s coming. You can see a smaller machine working on the right, chipping away at the concrete around the base of a fence post. That fencing only went up recently, so it looks like they’re either repositioning it or no longer need that section closed off. It’s another sign of how fluid the site layout still is. Things are constantly being moved, adjusted, and refined as they prepare the ground for the next stage of the cop redevelopment. Nothing stays still for long. You can really see how tough that job is. The workers using this massive saw on the pipes, and it’s barely making a dent at first, that metal’s solid. It honestly makes you stop and think about how much graft goes into this kind of work. These are the moments that remind you construction isn’t just machines and plans. It’s people putting in serious effort day after day. And yeah, I get it. Everyone’s eager for the big stuff to start, the steel going up, the cop taking shape, but this is the part that makes it all possible. Every bit of cutting, digging, and prepping is what creates the canvas for that next huge step. As I was filming the time lapse, the ground staff were busy shifting the LED grow lights again. And honestly, they’re seriously impressive bits of kit. These aren’t your garden center specials. Premier League clubs spend anywhere from hundreds of thousands to well over a million pounds a year on grow lights, depending on the size of the stadium and how many rigs they’re running. Just one modern 1,000 W high-pressure sodium rig can cost around 900 a year to operate. Multiply that across dozens of rigs lighting up the pitch and goal areas and you’re easily talking thousands every single month. More than £11,000 a year for a single setup. It’s wild to think how much science, money, and electricity go into keeping that grass perfect. Looks like there’s a bit of activity over in the technend stand, too. From what I can see, it looks like they’re doing some painting in there, freshening things up a bit, maybe getting it ready for the next round of work. Always something happening somewhere on site. Some fence posts were being installed on the mold road end of the site. So they are possibly going to replace those panels too with newer, taller, and stronger fencing. This afternoon when I flew over, the whole area looked completely transformed. You can actually see where a roller has been flattening the ground. And all the spots the digger has been working on for the past few weeks now look smooth and compacted. From the air, it’s incredible how much it’s changed in such a short time. Flattening a site like this isn’t just driving a big machine back and forth. There’s real technique behind it. First, they rough grade it using a grader or loader to level out the highs and lows and make sure there’s a proper slope for drainage. Then, they clear any rocks or debris that could throw the surface off. After that, water gets sprayed across the area to control dust and help the soil settle tighter. The roller then moves in overlapping passes, half covering its last run each time to make sure the compaction is totally even. It’s all about rhythm, side to side, pass by pass, until the whole site is smooth and solid. Once they’ve checked the grade and made any last tweaks, the ground’s finally ready for the next stage. the utilities, the piling, and everything that’ll build up from here. It’s the calm before the storm of real construction. I have added a white square and red shape. From the air, I think the white square will be the cop stand and the red shape, the plaza. Let me know what you think in the comments. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Thanks to everyone for watching today. I really got a sense that things will move on at a faster pace over the next week or two. Have a great day.

I didn’t realize just how big that area really is until you see it all cleared out.
Супер! 👍
Thank you Tom!
I think the work you showed starting in the Tech upper stand should be the start of the safe standing area they where going to be putting in this season. Starting from the back, and working forwards row by row in between games?
That was a lot of pipe to cut into 3 foot segments. My back hurts watching that guy.
Thank you for the graphic with the Kop Shape. Am I right in saying that the Corners aren't included as part of the Kop Project?
I believe that's the old LV cable that used to connect the flats with the substation which is why its so flexible. Would have been laid there when the flats were built around 2011, after the Kop was closed.
They're cables he's cutting
Weird to see the diagonal boundary line from the turf as well this whole site has certainly been divided up oddly in the past.
Cutting up that pipe/cable/whatever reminds me of cutting up damaged ship-to-shore power cables used when your ship tied up alongside the jetty at a certain south coast dockyard. They'd be cut up into two or three foot lengths – just big enough to fit in the boot of a car sort of lengths. Lot of copper in those cables. Anyway… that's another story.
Thanks for taking us along on that journey
Hiya. I've lost my bearings. Where's that Media Centre/Building/Shed/Hut/Whatever it's called that was taking forever to finish? I can't recognise it anywhere. Stay safe. All the best to you.
can you nip down to luton and cover the stadium build there too? lol
All this foreplay…
No it is pretty impressive watching the detail work that has to go into prepping a construction site. Not that I wish to give any Wrexham taggers ideas, but I am impressed at how clean that construction fence along the road is! Would have thought it would be a magnet for local graffiti artists. Or frankly local artists hired or allowed by Wrexham AFC to throw some art up on like at Ryan Reynolds park in town. Or maybe let local school kids come by and paint something, have some fun with the wall! 👍
Greetings from germany. I every day Show you kop stand Content. Keep it up…
Looks like armoured cable he is cutting. If so, it might have from the old sub station suppling the flats etc. Just a guess…..loving the daily update. Keep them coming.
Hi Tom, thanks again my friend. I can see from your great coverage that things are shaping up. I can see the outline of the stand base and the plaza beginning to form. Superb content mate. Compulsive viewing as always on the best Wrexham channel in the business. 👍⚽😀🇨🇮🏴👍
Thanks Tom!
Reading some of the comments, it makes total sense why the new substation had to be connected to the University flats before school started. I didn't realize how they were connected before and when it would've been done. I guess that's why reading other comments helps 😂
Do you think they'll be able to continue progressing the build while waiting for final approval? I sure hope so
Have a good day 😊
