Dernier grand rendez-vous par étapes avant les Mondiaux, le Tour de Grande-Bretagne s’élançait ce mardi 2 septembre pour six jours de course intenses. Tracée entre Woodbridge et Southwold, la 1ère étape était propice à un sprint massif qui a bien eu lieu à l’issue des 161.4 km totalement plats. Sans surprise, le train de la Visma | Lease a Bike a livré une prestation impériale dans les deux derniers kilomètres pour déposer dans un fauteuil Olav Kooij, avec Matthews Brennan en poisson-pilote de luxe pour conclure ce lancement parfait. Mais au moment où le jeune Britannique s’est écarté, c’est le surprenant Tord Gudmestad (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) qui a surgi de l’arrière avec une vitesse folle pour lancer le sprint à 150 mètres. Profitant de ces derniers hectomètres en légère montée pour faire parler sa puissance, le Norvégien de 24 ans a pris les devants et a bien failli les garder jsuqu’au bout, Olav Kooij parvenant de justesse à le dépasser avant la ligne !

It’s all about the timing as a big move goes up the side from Tor Gumashtad launches a huge move for Dathlon. AG2 Montal has he managed to time this one as Koi tries to come through on the line. It’s timed to perfection. Olaf Koy comes through and takes it for Vizma Lisa Bike pays the team for the job done all day but to good mistat what a finish from the data aging to mandial rider to finish in second.
