Hello friends! Today we are in Nuremberg (Nürnberg). It is a historic city in Bavaria, southern Germany, known for its medieval architecture, cultural legacy, and role in major European events.
The city grew rapidly as a trade and craft center due to its strategic location from the 11th century. By the 13th century, it was a Free Imperial City under the Holy Roman Empire and the Imperial Castle was a popular stop for royalty. It reached its Golden Age in the 15th century when the city became a center of arts, science, and invention. Albrecht Dürer, one of Germany’s most famous artists, lived and worked here.
The city has its dark and infamous past as one of the cities chosen by the Nazis for massive Nrallies (Reichsparteitage) in the 1930s. The city suffered heavy bombing in WWII. About 90% of the Old Town was destroyed. The city later became famous for the Nuremberg Trials (1945–46), where Nazi leaders were tried for war crimes. The Documentation Center at the Nazi Rally Grounds at the outskirts of the city is a museum documenting the dark events during the Nazi period.
After the war, Nuremberg was carefully rebuilt to restore its Medieval atmosphere. Old street layouts were maintained and key buildings were restored. In present day, it is known for the festive Christmas market (Christkindlesmarkt), toy manufacturing, trade fairs, Lebkuchen and Nurnberg sausages (yummm).
