
This one’s wild, a Spanish rider, Mario Aparicio, was disqualified from the Tour of Mentougou in China after posting a Strava ride with two emojis: a pig 🐖 and the Chinese flag 🇨🇳.
Organizers said it “damaged the image of the race,” while Aparicio’s team claims the pig was just a private joke toward a teammate, not meant as anything offensive. Still, it blew up online, with death threats and all.
It really shows how tiny things like emojis can spiral when cultural context is misunderstood.
