This was a strange experience as I’d grown up in the area and knew this place when it was a corn field. Later in the video, I show how it looked in 1993 – totally different! Cycling around, it looks ok to me, although the roads are rather narrow. Wherever you live on the estate, you are just minutes away from a nice walk by the river. Also, it all looks very clean and tidy.

[Music] [Applause] [Music] Welcome to another video of exploring Ellbury. And today I’m doing Bucket Park which is just adjacent to uh Waterme which is where I went last time and it’s uh just over the road on the other side of Buckingham Road. So this area is uh where I used to play in these fields um both over on on that side on the other side of Buckingham Road and uh all around here. Yeah, it’s uh unbelievable how this has changed from a a corn field um to what it is now. What’s in front of me is uh a flood plane and occasionally does flood. You may have seen if you’ve seen my older videos uh last year Alsbury flooded quite badly and all of this was underwater. Um, but yeah, we’re going to explore Buckingham Park now, have a look around and see what’s what. And, uh, I might throw up some, uh, video of when I was over here. I think it was 1995 or something, 93, um, when I actually walked over to the Corindon ruins, which, uh, up on the hill up there and down in the valley. Um there’s a little play park just at the top corner which is where you used to be able to climb through the um the fence into the field where the uh village remains are. So let’s uh go and explore and uh see how it compares to other buildings that I’ve uh had a look at. Right. So we’re going to start up here. So the main road through and then he crossed then doesn’t have very good visibility either side. Right. So that’s uh Prince Robert Drive. There’s the one I crossed there. And uh that’s a reference to the English Civil War. Uh let’s have a look up here. The reason why I mentioned the Civil War reference is because this is built on the land where the supposed Battle of Alsbury took place in 1642. But modern research suggests that this may not have even happened. Or at least it’s been suggested that it was a minor skirmish rather than a full-scale battle. Huh. Musket path. So that was uh Petronel Road. Not sure what Petronel is for a Civil War reference, but that was brief, wasn’t it? Well, I’m already seeing it’s not very well designed for cars, is it? Look at all this congestion already. People can’t pass each other cuz there’s cars parked. It always amazes me they build these um estates or uh villages as they call them and they don’t make any uh provision for cars. says Colonel Gransson Avenue. Yeah. So, people living here have got to park on the um on the road. So, we’re right in the center now. And uh that play area park over there. Car behind me. Again, you can’t overtake because of um cars parked on the road. Surely it wouldn’t take much for them to design housing a state like this with room for parking. It looks like he’s on the tour. I am not. Martin Dorby Way. Right. So that one over there that goes uh through Berry Fields and uh comes out um well eventually the roads will come out onto Bista Road. Uh let’s carry on down here out of everyone’s way. So what’s this? Jubilee Square, Community Center. Oh, better be careful of uh music. Church, Church of England Primary School. Okay. The Codfather. I think that’s quite popular, isn’t it? Stanbul kebab. Everything you need. Wherever takes your fancy. The pharmacy as well. I have to say you have to keep me wits about these brooming roads emerging onto here everywhere. But look at all these cars parked. Crazy. Let’s have a look down here. Car up on jacks. This isn’t a dodgy area, is it? Chalk Hill Blue Close. So, we’re now butterfly references. What the hell is that? Can’t they make up their minds? So, am I now back on that road I just turned off? Prince Robert Drive. Okay. Uh, let’s go up here. Red Admiral Street. Where’s another butterfly reference? Wood white. Okay, so no more Civil War references. Peacock Lane. So, I’m assuming these go through. Okay, so this one goes down. Right, let me just cut through here because I know where I am now. So yeah, this is that play park I was on about that was at the top of the field and uh just behind that hump in the middle there just over the back is where that fence is. And in the early ’90s, I uh did some filming from up here, and you could see the town and everywhere. I’m not sure if that’s possible now. Yeah, let me just uh put it on the screen now. And you can see the sweep that I did from across there. Like that. You can see the whole town ahead. And uh yeah, it’s totally impossible now. I can remember it. Just a big swave of corn. Very peculiar. Right, let’s follow this uh jogger down the hill. Even with all this building, I can still get my bearings. So, I know where the sun is. So down here, I’m hoping I’ll be able to get through into the houses again. Yeah, there’s uh a lot of walks through here. Oh, this is the same path I was on earlier, isn’t it? I’ll have a look up there in a minute. So, that’s the river Tame to my right as it meanders its way through. And there’s a foot bridge over there which will take you through to Corindon. So hopefully I’ll be able to turn left and go back up into the houses. We’ll have a look. So this is the other bit of Buckingham Park. So where am I now? Let’s have a look. New College Road. My bike sounds terrible. Needs a bit of a service. So, what do you think? Does it look all right? I don’t know. I don’t know what it’s like living over here. Seems okay to me. All looks much the same, doesn’t it? So that’s Did I come down here? I did, didn’t I? Let’s have a look up the top here. Did I do this? I come down there, didn’t I? Yeah, I think I’m done. Well, that’s about it really. There’s not much more of Buckingham Park I can look at. Uh, I keep going around in circles, coming back to the same point. So, here I am back on the uh cycle way again. And uh yeah, it’s not bad, was it? I’ve seen worse. Um I don’t know which uh part of Albury I’ll have a look at next. Um we will see. So, uh thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye for now.

  1. I have looked places I have lived and most of them have housing on places that "will never be built on" never say never I guess shame its all low cost build not up to standard housing they used to build years ago nothing changes

  2. I agree.
I went for a walk over Buckingham Park whilst it was mostly a building site and the majority of it was still in the process of being built.
From open fields and very little else, to seeing land flattened and houses going up was a pretty surreal experience.

  3. From the park in the top corner (Where you put the overlay of your old video), there is a new path that goes down from there, past the old Church ruins and Earthworks of 'Ye Olde' Quarrendon village and out onto the Berryfields Estate, and you're allowed to cycle on it 🙂

  4. Car parking …. More houses , means more goverment property tax collected … another great video of wonderfull little boxes 😊😂😊 thank you karl for all you do .
