Tadage Pagakar made history at Iel Lombardia claiming a fifth consecutive victory to equal FTO copy’s record for total wins in the race. The Slovenian launched a ferocious attack on the Paso Danda climb. Breaking clear of a select group of favorites with over 30 km to go. Catching Quinn Simmons, the last rider from the early breakaway who had held a three-minute lead, Pagakar powered solo to the finish, cementing his status as one of cycling’s all-time greats. This win makes him the first rider ever to win a monument five times in a row and the first man to podium in all five monuments in a single season. Earlier in 2025, Pagakar had already won the tour of Flanders and Lee Baston lege, becoming the first rider since Eddie Mks in 1975 to claim three monuments, the tour to France and the world championship in the same season. Despite the inevitable comparisons to Merks, Pagakar emphasized his desire to chart his own path, saying that constant comparisons can be frustrating even after a really cool phone call with the Belgian legend. Pogakar’s dominance was clear as he crossed the line almost 2 minutes ahead of Belgium’s Remco even with Australia’s Michael Store completing the podium. Reflecting on his achievement, Padakar credited both his own form and the strength of his team, noting that each season feels like his best, and 2025 may be no exception. This season also saw him secure a fourth tour to France title and successfully defend his UCI road championship crown in Rwanda. Other notable performances included Great Britain’s Tom Pitcock, who finished sixth, while Adam Yates claimed 11th. Hagakar’s victory at Iel Lombardia reinforces his remarkable consistency and endurance across the sport’s most grueling one-day monuments, showcasing a career defined not just by wins, but by historic, record-breaking achievements.
