In this video, Joseph Rooney, who organised the equipment from Susurro talks through the set-up and use of the new Stricker Smart Dynamic Handbike with custom tetraplegic controls in conjunction with a Motion Composites Apex A wheelchair.

@SheffieldCycling4All is a project run by the charity @disabilitysheffield. It has provided inclusive, all-ability cycling in Hillsborough Park for over 16 years. It ensures any adult who is unable to ride a standard two-wheel bicycle, due to disability or long-term health condition, can enjoy cycling by accessing adapted trikes and hand bikes. https://www.sheffieldcycling4all.org

The charity recently contacted Susurro as it was looking to extend its fleet of loan cycles.

Dan Sutton, Susurro Business Development Manager, travelled to Sheffield to hand over the products and provide training. He said: “We are proud to have helped Sheffield Cycling 4 All so they can help more individuals with disabilities access their equipment. The unique product combination and control system we have provided mean users with more specific requirements can get involved with this great scheme. There’s definitely some wonderful scenery around Sheffield they will enjoy – another example of why we do what we do at Susurro.”

Hello, so I’m just going to give you a rundown
on the Stricker and how to assemble the front apparatus to the wheelchair. So firstly I need to
make sure the brakes are on at the front, so we’ve got these by the wheels so we’ll apply them. In
terms of bringing the motor on to the front, we’ve got a nice handle – we’ll bring these closer to
the chair itself. And then on either side, there’s two really nice clamps which we attach onto the
lowers of the chair itself. So to do that, it’s very simple – just turn down on here, so it’s nice
and snug, and then do the same on the other side. So just make sure they’re nice and nipped up. So
once that’s fully connected onto the chair itself, we come down to the bottom. There’s a little
bit of grip tape on these two little handles or levers. So just give them a press till
they clip and then same on the other side. So now the front is ready to be lifted off the
two balls in the front. So to do so, you just lay back onto the chair, grip the handle
and then just push firmly. You will hear a nice little click and that means that the
Stricker is all connected together and then you’re able to cycle.Obviously first you’ve
got to release the brakes and there we go.
