For some reason I decide to do a 35ish mile route taking in as many hill forts as I can in one day. This is the second of the day: Dinedor Camp, Herefordshire.

Just a few miles away lies Dindor, another smallalish fort that may have acted as a sort of soldier bead to the larger creden hill nearby that would have been the queen bee. Similarly to Achenbury, excavations have uncovered iron age and Roman pottery, but again this is a scheduled monument, so you can’t go looking for any yourself unless you want a knock from PC plot. Some locals believe that the camp was a sacred site where kings held councils and performed rituals for protection and prosperity. And there are even rumors of a king’s stone within the camp where monarchs swore oaths. [Music]
