We’re Dean & Nala, and we’ve been best friends since December 2018. I was actually cycling around the world when I heard Nala meowing out for me somewhere in the Bosnian mountains. With no intentions of keeping Nala, I knew i had to save the wee kitten and take her to the vet – but I was well aware of the fact that it might be a bit of a challenge considering I only had a bike. However, despite my concerns, Nala quickly climbed out of the front bag on the bike handle and straight onto my shoulder. Since then, we’ve been travelling the world together. Alright guys how’s it going? So today we’re doing the long overdue video of our bike equipment Nala’s not here, Nala’s in the hotel I’ve had her out a big walk this morning so she’s absolutely shattered and she is now sleeping So yeah I’ve just got my bike out we’re just going to go through everything got a picnic table over there and we’re just going to go through absolutely everything and show you what I carry on the bike So aye let’s start off by looking at the bike itself There we go It’s absolutely beautiful if you ask me I love all the colors I love how it pops out We’ve got the yellow Croc, the red basket the panniers green the pedals green the trailer got the yellow on it and then the blue Scotland flag at the back So aye, I just love the way it looks Right so The type of bike it is, it’s a Trek 920 made in Taiwan, no suspension and it’s got front rack and back racks we’ve got 3 panniers in total, 2 in the back and 1 in the front The panniers are very easy to get off Just lift the handles and that’s it off and I mean they’re pretty secure and just to put them on clip it in at the bottom and make sure that goes in like that There we go, perfect So I think this bike’s done just over 10,000 miles The only real work we’ve done to it is we’ve changed the pedals as the bearing started going on the old ones it’s had a new chain a few times and new brake pads as well I think I carry that much weight on this bike that when you’re going downhill you’re constantly braking so the brake pads wear out pretty quick Another thing as well that if you’re wanting to do bike touring I would definitely get a good set of tyres If you’ve watched me for a while you’ll know before I got these tyres on the bike I was constantly getting flat tyres So yeah, Schwalbe sent me a set of marathon plus tours and since these have been on which have been a year and a half now Not 1flat tyre and to tell you the truth i’ve not even put air in them once so they’re still solid from the first day I put them in We’ve also got this seat on the bike as well which is a specialized one for men because if you do a lot of bike touring you’re not meant to sit down on a bike seat that often so you’ve got that bit cut out just to help you out downstairs Yeah I don’t know what make that is what is it an ism but that’s a good comfy seat I know a lot of people say get a good padded seat but that for what I do for a lot of miles is perfect and it’s actually very comfy the more you cycle as well Right coming on to the trailer what have we got A Topeak journey trailer dry bag So aye, I mean it does the job it holds a lot it lets a wee of bit water in when it’s raining heavy but one thing with this though is it’s starting to go but you know 10,000 miles the bearings are starting to go in there so hopefully we get a few thousand more miles before we’ve actually got to start looking to get a new trailer it’s got a nice wee bit for the Scotland flag at the back so love that about it as well and also looking to get just a wee small Bosnian flag but I am struggling to find one so if anyone can point me in the direction I would love to get just a wee bosnian flag for nala there So when I got this bike the trailer wasn’t actually made for this kind of bike it didn’t have the right fitting So we went into Belhaven bikes which is in Dunbar that’s my hometown and I went to see Colin if he could figure it out and see if he could fit on And I think we had something like a few days before we actually left to go on tour so it was very very last minute and he got this in and he made two wee brackets for it which absolutely brilliant solid solid as a rock and it’s not went anywhere since but yeah, aye, it’s good So that’s what I needed to adapt on the bike to get the trailer on Now starting to look at the wee attachments I’ve got I’ve got 2 bike lights here and I know people say you need more bike lights but these are actually very bright in the dark I know they don’t look it but at night time they are both very good and they last a long time as well We’ve got a wee bike pump there which we used to use a lot but now I can’t remember the last time I used that Here we’ve got a wee gopro mouthpiece so this clips in there take that out and then that’s just like a wee snorkel mouthpiece you put in your mouth and you grip your gopro so then no matter what you’re looking at that’s the image you get and that just clips in there and that keeps it there just so it’s easy to get to when I’m cycling We’ve got our front bike light as well which would point towards the ground because it’s actually a very bright one What else what else Round here we’ve got the good old yellow Croc and I use this to keep my toothbrush and my toothpaste in But aye it’s insulated as well so it keeps all them from freezing because that’s the last thing you want is frozen toothpaste to brush your teeth with Right so let’s have a look at Nala’s basket now A lot of people message asking for nala’s basket Would i buy it? Hm I’m not too sure I had to adapt the bottom of it and it’s only held on by cable ties so apart from that I mean it’s a good basket it’s got plenty room for Nala it’s got a good mesh top Hold on let me show you So aye it’s got plenty of room for Nala it’s got a good mesh top that zips up Let’s have a look We’ve got her wee teddy in there as well that stays in there with her all the time That’s my lock keys So she’s got one bed that’s a nice soft one good fluffy for her Under that I keep my wallet That’s got everything I need in it from passport bank cards that I keep losing and aye Nala’s documents as well That’s just a wee cloth just for the hottest days when this is zipped up I can put it over just to give her another wee bit of protection I’ve got her lead and another wee short one The big long one I use for when I’m taking her a walk so she can just walk away from me whatever she wants the wee short one I just leave on if I just let her run and I have the short one on just in case I need to get her at any time so it makes it easier Let’s see what else we’ve got Aye a pack of dry chicken for her That’s her favorite treat there so she loves that The good old face masks got 2 of them FP91 on one of those ones, I never use them but you know Sometimes you go to a supermarket and you’ve got to put one on so I do use them see Just telling porkies And the gopro 360 the gopro max I think it is max? aye the gopro max but that’s the one I use for doing the 360 videos at the front I did have a bracket that comes out here and goes down there But yeah Nala was Nala was climbing on it all the time so I’ve actually just took that off and I don’t know i’ll see if I can get something a bit more secure or I’ll just put it on when I need it there’s no point Because one day that will snap and I’m afraid she’ll fall and I’ll run over and that’s not going to be a very nice ending Another cushion for her, that’s nice and padded as well And aye there’s a bracket I had on there for the gopro Yes so that just clips in the bottom and then it bolts through there and the camera goes on in the front but as I said she was standing on the front and it was getting quite loose Anything else in here? Nah you normally just find parts of gopros and some euros Just stuff that gets chucked in quickly So as you can see the basket is quite deep But yeah had to cable tie it on the bottom don’t know if you can see that which obviously probably isn’t the best it did come with a bracket but it weighed an absolute ton I’d maybe, I wouldn’t go and buy the basket straight away I would have a look about I’m always looking for a better basket as well Aye hopefully one day we can just make our own and there’d be quite a few modifications I’d like to make to it Got the mesh top I usually just use that if it’s a windy day I put that up and zip it up just it’s going to give her a wee bit more protection from the wind we’ve got 2 pockets down the side What’s in that one? Ahhh that’s where they are My good old trusty nail clippers, so I’ll keep them in there Let me go round the other side I don’t know if you can hear it but that is a woodpecker up there Which is quite cool I may go see if I can film it on the phone in a second You get a sore head And in this one I have my flint to start my fire And my pen knife which is just a wee, I think it’s a Bear Grylls one so you flick that and that’s that I keep that on the right hand side so it’s easy to grab if I ever needed it
