For us cycling fans, riding a superbike is the dream; they’re fast, light and responsive! But what about beginner cyclists, or even those who don’t really like cycling – how much of a difference can a superbike make for them? Manon, along with special guests Harriet and Bruno, are going to find out!

these are the top of the range pinarello and or Bayer Superbikes designed to make professionals and experienced Road cyclists as fast as possible but what would happen if these Superbikes were ridden by total beginners how fast would they be then weren’t gonna find out Harriet and Bruno are our willing volunteers they know how to pedal and that’s about it but they love riding bikes and that’s what it’s all about but we’ll leave a bit more on the Superbikes [Music] sorry Richardson eat your heart out [Music] hi Harrier I’m Bruno hello man how are you very good don’t be scared first up tell me a little bit about your cycling experience so it’s next to none really I mean like I occasionally ride to work and occasionally on the uh like public bikes at Cardiff but um yeah it’s next to none I’m definitely not an athlete so how about you Bruno so I’m kind of more of uh fallen off the wagon a little bit uh so to speak in the I did a lot of cycling a few years back and basically haven’t done any in the last three or four years so I’m sort of a beginner but mostly just way out of four so well today I have inches but so I’m gonna send you off to get changed and then get back and we’ll start the challenges sounds good let’s do it so I’ve got a few challenges lined up for our two beginners today I’m going to start them off with a nice old Hill Climb then we’re going to move on to some Sprint challenges and then they’re going to do a TT around the park here and if that’s not enough I’m going to make them do the TT all over again but on their usual bikes to see how much difference these two Superbikes make to their performance now let’s get into it [Applause] [Music] guys you look at the part you’re the pro look at you I feel really out of place what are you thinking of the bikes in the kit I love it lovely super lightweight it’s really slick easy to move which suits me nicely same oh God you’re looking great but we’re going to throw you straight into it with a Health Plan we’re going to start just here and I want full gas effort from bottom to the top then we get to the top I’ll ride up and uh we’ll see how you get on uh oh let’s do it yeah have you ever done a little car before not on purpose not on purpose Cavendish Road might not look too tough and it’s not at the bottom but at the top there are gradients of up to 16 percent right Harry you’re at first good luck this is actually called Cavendish Road as well not that we’re going to do much sprinting on it today but you know going uphill so good luck okay are you ready no here we go two one oh Jesus oh horrible way [Music] sorry car oh no [Music] how is this the easiest [Music] oh my God [Music] man don’t lie to me oh my God give me a minute [Music] okay oh yeah God I am I’m fit oh oh my God no oh my God I’m so unfit what are you gonna do I’m sorry to everyone who were killed to ride a pennarelli or whatever this is called but I’m not cut out for it I’m gonna ride up to the letterbox and no one will ever know [Music] I’m gonna ride I’m gonna [Music] she’ll never know oh my God I’m dead I’m literally dead right let’s go Bruno three two one off you go and he’s off oh Flying Star [Music] yeah come on there we go there we go oh how many kids have got left just the one just the one [Music] oh I’m freezing it oh [Music] the whole way I’ll tell you what that is a Savage climb he made it how was it horrid absolutely horrid how’s the bike it was nice but I think it’s ultimately down to my fitness level I just could not take it how about you Bruno after the course really like the bike was great and I was what was slowing it down plus like you know there’s there’s got to be at least a kilogram of water in that bottle right yeah that’s really slowing you down um I’ll give you a little bit of time to recover but we’ve got a Sprint next so back down the hill this is gonna be flat this time yeah all right let’s go oh [Music] right then Sprint challenge next we set out roughly about 100 meters for you guys to Sprint we’re gonna have a nice roll in so you’re gonna be on your bikes ready to go and then once we come out the Bollard that’s when you’re gonna Sprint you want full gas all the power as much speed as you can get after the bikes I’m gonna be sprinting alongside you give you some extra support pretty much a shout at you and scream at you to go faster are we ready for this how are we feeling about sprinting readier than I was for the climb that’s for sure oh yeah if it’s anything like the climb I’m done well at least they’re nice and warmed up now that’s that’s a plus but do you reckon you’re going to sprint on your tops or you’re going to go on the drops I might I might give the drops a go on on the drop handlebars are on the tops oh I’ll probably just stick to this yes right let’s do it all right Bruno Let’s Go okie dokie right up oh there we go all right we’ll roll into it nice and steady and then once we get the bollards these ones are the next ones the next one select your gear Choice yeah and then we’re going to be off okay a little bit [Music] you ready yeah I’m ready I’m ready two one off we go I was fast oh I’ll feel it in place lactic acid yeah how did you find it good I’m definitely definitely a sprinter no climber from that experience how was the bike really really good actually like do you feel fast yeah it did like it just wanted to get off the line like um like with my with my usual bites they’re just so heavy and you’ve got a really like man handle them underneath you and like you’ve got to put that work in to just get it up to speed it’s like a lot of a lot of weight that you’ve got to put momentum into whereas this is just like all right let’s go what about the handlebar situation because that’s quite different yeah it was definitely like twitch here it felt like the the bike was switching around underneath me a little bit mostly because I’m used to being out here and having quite a little bit of extra leverage going on but um yeah didn’t stop me yeah it was lying right let’s go back and set Harriet off right so we’re getting past the bollard’s wheel all right start ramping up a bit then three two one all the speed all right the energy that you’ve got if I have any left you don’t have I can feel it I feel like it’s just gonna be a fast one with a dark horse okay obviously Spotlight yeah those are bollards so after that we’ll uh then ramp it up good Channel my owner Hank in three two one oh she’s off she’s quick look at the speed there we go we can stop now sweet how is that that was so fun yes but the wind going through your hair it’s amazing how’s the bike amazing yeah good but it was like the handling something it’s quite different to what you’re used to yeah yeah the um the back brake is on a different side like I was just going on to that just in case I needed thanks a bit of getting used to but yeah I’m guessing you probably don’t do efforts like that when you’re just outriding your normal bike do you absolutely no absolutely not I think you’ll be incorporating a few Sprints into your into your commute all right right next up we have the time chart anybody know what the time trial is well I’ve played a lot of Mario Kart and I know it’s just going around as fast as you can basically but basically do exactly the same on your bike so we’re going to go around the park it’s just shy of a mile long who wants to go first I’ll go first all right let’s do it right Harriet let’s do this three two one off you go she’s off [Music] tonight [Music] foreign [Music] bike is fantastic the uh the full performance is definitely a user error [Music] time I did it yeah they’ve done the time trial on the Superbikes we’re now going to go and do a bit of transformation get back into your normal kit and your normal bikes how do you think it’s gonna go on your normal bikes slowly slowly slowly but you might be more comfortable on your normal bike you might be more confident because it’s your bike what what do you think I mean there was definitely that anxiety riding this around that I didn’t want to absolutely hammer it around the corner because I don’t want to crash this Holly will be we’ll be mad exactly exactly expensive thing I’ll ever sit on so um like I’m glad I haven’t crashed it yet yes I mean I have to say both of you for beginners have absolutely smashed it and honestly I think you’ll go in places like seriously good for beginners I think this has probably changed me I’m a change book let’s get back on your normal bikes and see how it goes let’s go for it [Music] right Bruno you’re back on the way ready for another TT the only thing you’re missing is a little puppy sat in your basket yeah it wouldn’t be very Aero though not Arrow though anyway right are you ready yeah let’s do it three two one off you go [Music] ugh that doesn’t sound very good on a Superbike I had a bit more energy here to pick it up again but now I’m just like what I want us to be done [Music] [Applause] oh I’m starting to feel that burn now [Music] sorry Richardson eat your heart out right you’ve done the time trial on your normal bikes how did it compare firstly before we go through the times how did it compare Harriet how was yours I was definitely more comfortable on this bike because the tires are nice and thick and it’s just what I’m used to also the saddle is more cushiony you prefer your saddle to the same type of Saddle yeah the superbike saddle has a hole in it for some reason um so I didn’t really like that very much um but yeah it’s um I think I prefer this bike even though how did you did you feel more comfortable more confident I did on the climbs it like because I’m used to riding this one more it was a bit nicer even though it was slower but it was just nicer on my legs okay and what about you Bruno how was your run it was good it was certainly a lot comfier on my massive wide tires but those massive wire tires were obviously a lot slower too um it felt like I had to put a lot more effort into just lugging the bike around and getting it up to speed like is that like the initial thought you had once you set off you’re like this is a bit heavier yeah exactly exactly and even even with not having to faff about clipping in I felt like I was still slower off the line with this and with flat pedals that I can just step on so what about um like confidence wise how did you feel confidence wise I was definitely more confident on this just because it is a big fat Supple bike that has really wide bars on it that you like you can wrestle the thing around and it’s absolutely fine but yeah and you’re an 18 seconds slower on this bike which isn’t really that much when you go from you know the super duper bike to your everyday commuter bike it isn’t but I guess that’s where the money goes on uh on super expensive bikes like that like you you’re hunting out those marginal gains like you want uh that money goes towards research it goes to development it goes to manufacturing processes that like you couldn’t get a bike that is as light and as stiff without spending that money um this this is never going to be a bike like that um and the price reflects that accordingly all right you were one minute 40 slower on your bike yeah but you were on two completely different bikes maybe on a Superbike that was built for Speed aerodynamics yeah and then you went to your bike which is essentially a mountain bike yeah not built for Speed not built for Speed at all how is how has today been as a whole for you and your experience on a Superbike has it made you know want to go out and invest in a Superbike or are you quite happy maybe but I’m definitely not after speed in my day-to-day life I’m just a commuter at the end of the day you don’t need a Superbike if you’re just your average run-of-the-mill cyclist really I’m not after speed this thing is not built for Speed neither am I so it’s you know but riding a Superbike has actually tempted me to start uh maybe training a bit a few more Hill wraps no no manners more Sprints more Sprints absolutely you never know so much Bruno Harriet for being our guinea pigs today you truly have been amazing so thank you very much thank you thanks for watching this video we hope you enjoyed it don’t forget to like And subscribe and let us know down in that comment section below what you’d like to see these two do next uh-oh you’re in it now [Music]

Seemed staged.
The cyclist in the background reminds me of the Dutch postman in Limburg keeping up with the Rabobank pros up the Cauberg 😬
Really great done, all three of you, hope to see you all soon again 🙂, maybe on a gravel bike?😏
This was such a great video! Please more Harriett videos, loved her enthusiasm and real reactions, her reaction on the sprint reminded me of my first velodrome experience – the adrenaline and joy and surprise of not dying 😂 Bruno was superb too, loving the difference between his normal bike and the speed machine.. I’d be scared to crash or damage them too! Please do more of these videos. I love the normal GCN videos, but can relate far more to this one and would love to follow along on their journey trying out different bike skills. Manon is s great presenter too, and really encouraging and kind. Bravo!
I want Harriet to be my nutritional strategy
When Harriet said: “Manon lied to me!” 😂 that’s exactly what I tell my coach when he says “this is the last hill!” 😅
This was such a fun watch! I officially returned to riding my bike again just yesterday, after not touching it for over 2 years, and even then I did not ride it that much, but at least did a leisurely cycle nearly everyday. It’s nice to see content that includes beginners and inexperienced cyclists, especially when they feature again in other videos and you can see how they’ve grown and built confidence. I was rooting for Harriet when she was on the hill, at the same time I could see that she would have stopped…I don’t blame her, I would have stopped too!!
I enjoyed watching it 😊
Watching Bruno struggle to get his shoes clipped in was very much me looking into the mirror lol. Just getting back into cycling now and man, I love this video. I am still petrified of falling over if I am honest because i will forget to clip out. Cannot wait haha
Goodness, for me, 12% is max I can "ride/climb/walk", but 16??? This guy and girl do much better than me, cycling regularly for at least 5 years
@4:10 you see another biker casually riding up the hill.
Why dont you take them to the countryside with this kind of challenge…all the traffic makes me nervous…imagine them…well..part of the challenge i guess…
I recognize myself on my first road bike wobbling from the left to the right, cross chaining and sweating like a pig…
This is my first road https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
The whole time watching this I just wanted Harriet to succeed. Adorable and admirable effort.
Put a beginner on a superbike and a pro on a fatbike. Who would win by what margin on downhill, flat terrain and uphill?
This was good but I would have preferred it if the cyclists had a bit more experience as I’d love to know how much my average mph would increase if I had a better bike. It would be great if the cyclist was on a starter bike and tried lots of different bikes, going up the range to a super bike. This would give people an idea about whether it’s worth spending the money. I have been riding an Evans Pinnacle for the past two years, around 10 to 20 miles a day plus some longer rides like a coast to coast. How would a more expensive bike improve my performance (if at all).
manon my love❤
Matt Stephens eat your heart out!
🙋🏻♂️My height is 6'1 – 185cm. So which frame size should i buy?
She doesn't even know how to use gears
The recap at the end is very good. Don't often have that on videos.
Harriot's adorable. love her epeisodes trying new things.
Excellent comparison should do more of this topic😊
ridiculous test. would have been much better to compare these high end road bikes to lower end but more suitable bikes like a cheap gravel or xc bike where there is a chance they could be faster because of the increased comfort and stability.
seriously ridiculous test!
"This thing is not built for speed, neither am i" – Harriet. Wise words 👏.
All the gear and no idea 🤣 as the saying goes 😊
tops or drops "What does that even mean?" 🤣
10,000lbs! How do you ride that?
"How is this the easiest gear?"
I see that she's copying something I've said alot
There faster because they leave you with less money to eat
Love Harriot. The fact that she mentioned Mario Kart before the time trial was perfect
Manon is so trustworthy. She’s just the typical suburban chubby chick groupie. Btw, gcn sure does make life hell for motorists each time they’re filming on the road.. 🤦🏻♂️
Manon and Bruno have chemistry 😅😅
Okay it has been a year or so. Bring back Bruno and Harriett! They're so endearing! I can't blame Harriett for hesitation on the superbike. It isn't just that it is a super fancy one, it is an entirely different style! Even a more basic generically light weight road bike would feel tons different.
More of our Normal People Who Ride Sometimes again. Take them on a vacation to a beautiful mountain scenic place for a long distance tour – no pressure to go fast, just to go by two wheels <3
I let no one touch my bicycle
Good job both of them, just started some traning on my old bike. Very fun.
I’m not hatin Harriet..! And this was interesting..!!
I don’t have the patience to watch this whole thing. Someone pls tell me the result? Was the top notch bike much faster?
Very similar to my experience when I bought a 1,000 € cyclocross ten years ago with no previous experience beyond fairly ordinary city bikes. Well done!
If I had to choose between Pinarello and Orbea, I would choose Harriet 😊
that black canyon looks georgeous
I don't know what Harriet's day job is, but she's already one of the more natural GCN presenters and Bruno clips in like a pro cyclist
…if that pro cyclist is Matt Stevens! 🤣
Im ao glad they never made her ride that apollo bike
cant beat my 150$ Schwinn with no rear brakes.
Why is everyone glazing Harriet?
"How is this the easiest gear?" lmao
She ís somehow a very lovely lady.
