They thought that happiness lies in things that, in reality, are nothing more than {like a mirage in a lowland which a thirsty person thinks is water until, when he comes to it, he finds it nothing. But he finds God with him, and He will pay him his due. And God is swift in account.} (An-Nur: 39) Among the most prominent of these matters are:
– Money. And what do you know about money? For some people – indeed, many – it has become the source of happiness. They believe that happiness lies in accumulating wealth, acquiring riches, and owning buildings and real estate. No one is seen as happy except those who have some noteworthy benefit from this. By God, whoever believes this or tells themselves this is mistaken.
I do not see happiness as accumulating wealth, but rather as being pious.
How many wealthy people have been ruined by their wealth, and are now in worry, grief, misery, and wretchedness? Only God knows. How many wealthy people are in extreme anxiety, fearing that their wealth will be lost, that their money will be stolen, or that they will be killed…

Despite all this, their wealth may tempt them into thinking that it will make them immortal. {He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal. No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher. And what can make you know what is the Crusher? It is the Fire of God, kindled, which ascends over the hearts. Indeed, it is closed upon them, in extended columns.} (Al-Humazah: 3-9). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threatened and warned those who openly commit sins, saying: “O group of emigrants, there are five things that if you are tested with them – and I seek refuge in Allah that you should witness them – immorality will never appear among a people and they openly commit it except that plague and diseases that did not exist among their predecessors will spread among them. They will not reduce the measure and weight except that they will be afflicted with famine, severe hardship, and injustice from their rulers. They will not withhold the zakat from their wealth except that rain will be withheld from the sky. Were it not for the animals, they would not have had rain. They will not break the covenant of Allah and the covenant of His Messenger except that Allah will empower over them an enemy from other than them who will take some of what is in their hands. And their leaders will not rule by the Book of Allah and choose from what Allah has revealed except that Allah will make their punishment among themselves.” Therefore, if a person commits a mistake, he should conceal it and repent between himself and Allah Almighty. Concealment is to prevent immorality from spreading and its mention will not become widespread in society, because spreading news of it attracts people to it. The Prophet of God – may God bless him and grant him peace – said: “Avoid these filths that God has forbidden. Whoever is afflicted with them should cover himself with the cover of God Almighty.”

It is frivolousness for a man to do something at night, then in the morning, after Allah has concealed it, he says, 'O so-and-so, I did such-and-such last night,' even though his Lord concealed him the night before, and in the morning he exposes what Allah concealed from him." Indecency incurs Allah's wrath and deserving of the threat of the Hereafter, and is evidence of a bad end.
