Nottingham Castle was built by the Normans during William the Conqueror’s reign. Nottingham, in fact, was the crossroads to the north and south of the country. Plus, a castle high up on the sandstone was as good as impregnable. For these reasons, the Norman castle here became as important as those at Windsor, Dover, and the Tower of London. Nottingham Castle has been significantly rebuilt at least twice since its original Norman construction with the present-day building being a Duka mansion that replaced the original fortress after its demolition in the 17th century. It was then burnt by riers in 1831, after which it was restored and refurbished in the 1870s to become the museum and art gallery that stood until the major reconstruction project completed in 2021. The 2021 project was an extensive 30 million pound regeneration that opened up a new chapter for the historic site. Here we are at Nottingham Castle. We’re going to have a look around the museum. So, let’s go explore. We’re coming up to where we go into the castle. So, it’s called Robin Hood Adventures in medieval Nottingham. Robin Hood. Robin Hood. Riding through the Glenn. Oh, lovely singing, Tony. Help! [Music] I’m in the stocks. Get me out of here. Yeah, I can’t read the head. The museum is a very interactive modern experience for the 21st centuries visitor of weather outlaw and evil of our game. like to say that Nottingham Castle is nothing like I used to remember it. [Music] [Music] [Music] Some of the same far. [Music] This is a portrait of Nottingham Castle being burnt down by rioters in 1831. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the view over Nottingham. There’s the castle rock that the castle was built on. That over there is Castle Boulevard. See the cricket pitch track bridge. Yeah. Over there. British waterways. What is that? Hey hey. [Music] Right. Well, we’ve just arrived at Home Permont, which is a water sport center. And uh you can also cycle around on your bicycles, can’t you? Or you can run or walk um or walk your dogs. Yeah, walk your dogs. So, we’re just going to have a walk and find the lake, aren’t we now, Belle? Yeah. We’ve had a a little cup of coffee and Belle’s had an orange. And you’ve been on the adventure playground, which is over there. So, now we’re having a walk to the lake, aren’t we? Yeah. But I’m not walking. I’m bike riding. your bike riding. Arch is there. We’re just waiting for Tony to lock the car up. Right, let’s go. Come on then, Belle. This way. Right, so we’ve come to the lake. They do all sorts of things on this lake. Kaying. There’s rapids somewhere. Not quite sure where the rapids are. We’re on a still part of the lake here. This is where all the Olympic participants. Yeah. Practice. You might want to look up there everybody. Oh yes. Welcome to Home Peron Country Park, home of the National Water Sports Center and Paddle UK. There we go. Then keep on the left hand side. It says, right, then I’m going to do some filming of Home Pier Point and all its um glories. And just to tell you, if you don’t know whose bike that is, that’s mine. Yes, I am riding Belle’s bike, but it’s quite a big bike cuz I’ve got the seat to the top. Yeah. And on the wheels it says Billy Boners. Billy Bonkers. Yes, they do. Right. See you later, alligators. Bye. Right, everybody, let’s go on this bike ride. A little bit about Home Pair Pont Country Park. It’s home to the National Water Sport Center nestled in 270 acres of beautiful countryside right in the heart of the bustling city of Nottingham. Right, I’m just heading towards the marina along the river here. A few swans basking in the sunlight. I can see the marina up ahead. Cry his low flying geese nearly got me. A formation landing as well. Wow. Looks like a good selection of boats. I’m heading towards the water rapids. There’s a bit of a crowd here. Let’s see what’s happening. Heat. Heat. A bit more tranquil this side. Right, better get back now. See what Julian Bell’s up to. been over to the lake there. We’ve cut across the car park and there’s another little lake here. Oh, it says it’s a jetty and it’s not maintained by Home Pump Country Park. So, it’s a separate lake. Very nice. There’s some boats over there. Look, if you look through there, there’s some boats and swans and There’s Archie and Belle. We’re just back. We’re just back from home pe. Let’s go. Film in front. [Music] There’s that blue car if you can see just in front of that gray one. Here we go. There’s nanny. Okay, let’s show you the way around. We are leaving now right this minute. Okay, I’ll film you. I’ll actually film you till we get home. to where Nanny does all her editing of her video. And I also forgot to show you something. Papa is doing the driving. So Tony and Arie’s just there chilling out and relaxing, aren’t you, my boy? Yeah. So guys, we are nearly at home now. So I’m just going to like leave this camera on and show you the way.

Aw, it was lovely to see your cute little granddaughter enjoying the interactive displays. I (Julie) visited Nottingham Castle this summer! It was so much fun and the staff were so friendly and informative. Thanks for bringing back some happy memories. The bike trip was fun too! xx
It seems this castle has had quite a history! Yes, Tony I think of Robin hood too 😅 I enjoyed the tour and hearing about the historic events! It would seem the historical events are still relevant today. History does seem to cycle. Your granddaughter had such a wonderful time! Seeing things through the eyes of children is priceless ✨️
Interesting museum/castle tour. Holme Pierrepont, the name rang a bell, and then I remembered our car club used to use their rally field for our annual meet-up. That would have been 20 years ago now😮.
Stunning castle of Nottingham! 👍👍Thanks for sharing!😊😊🐷
Wonderful castle 🏰

What a lovely visit you made with Belle and Archie. Gorgeous castle and lots of history. A long drop down by the looks. And that bike ride, ice cream – wow what a festive day you've had. Belle may want to come every trip. Bit of a dark sky there Tony. Lovely video. Most enjoyable watch. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🥝

Julie and Tony. Apologies for my absent due to US government shutting down, we took advantage to go for 18 hr hike that is been on our bucket list.
The displays at the castle are very organized and detailed that I am mesmerized by. Beautifully filmed. haha Your G-daughter made a show and Tony's bike tour is lovely. haha a really? a whitewater kayaker ? haha nice practice to roll it. Real whitewater is more dangerous obstacles all over the river included rocks on the bottom of the river. I can see how much you had a great time together. Thank you for sharing the beautiful moments.
Nottingham castle looks amazing! Really enjoyed listening to the voice over. The museum looked amazing and looked like your granddaughter enjoyed the experience. Those views are incredible 😮😍. Enjoyed the walk around the lake. Looks like you had great weather for it. The water rapids looked amazing. Hope you have had a fantastic weekend. Best wishes, Matt & Bec 😊😊❤
Watching here with ads for the love ❤. Beautiful Nottingham castle and tour Belle and Tony. Beautiful historic sites. Thanks for bringing us along
I lived in Nottingham for a short period and made a couple of visits to Nottingham Castle, and nearby (well built into the side of it!) Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem. There was also the Old Salutation on Maid Marian Way that was also a good pub
Hi Julie and Tony! Nottingham Castle looks very interesting. I always love museums that have interactive exhibits. That squadron of geese definitely was coming in very low and Tony almost got in the way. Loved there landing. Ha ha. The kayaking area looked interesting as well. Bell certainly does love to be the videographer when she has the opportunity! 😊👍
