Lake Annecy in Haute-Savoie. If you liked this video, click the “Like” button!

a perfect combination of unspoilt nature, picturesque villages
and cultural and leisure activities. To better understand the geography of the place,
let’s say that the left bank of Lake Annecy is located on the west side of the lake, as opposed
to the right bank which is to the east. Here are four points which allow us to
describe the left bank of Lake Annecy. Firstly, the left bank offers
magnificent landscapes with views of the lake and the surrounding
mountains, notably the Semnoz. The region is characterized by its
crystal clear waters, beaches, hiking trails and unspoiled green spaces. Secondly, several picturesque
communes and villages can be found along the left bank, such
as Sevrier, Saint-Jorioz and Duingt. Each of these places offers its own charm
and unique activities to discover. Third, the left bank of Lake Annecy is
a popular location for water activities such as sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding
and swimming. Cyclists and hikers also enjoy the many trails and cycle paths
that run alongside the lake and wind through the surrounding countryside. Thus, the left bank of Lake Annecy is crossed by the greenway linking Annecy to
Ugine, 35 kilometers long. Finally, fourth, the left bank
is also home to a rich cultural and historical heritage, with
ancient churches, castles and monuments that bear witness to
the history of the region. In this video, I will offer you seven sites to see on the left bank of Lake Annecy.
Of course, there are more than seven sites to see, but this small selection will allow you to get an idea if you don’t know the region. This video completes the discovery of the lake, which I started a few years ago with the
right bank of Lake Annecy which you can watch on our YouTube channel. Let’s start with a site located in the territory
of the commune of Annecy. The Marquisats For the first site to discover on
the left bank of Lake Annecy, I suggest you go for a walk from the Pont de la Halle
in the center of Annecy. This bridge gives access to the old town
which is nicknamed the Venice of the Alps, but also to the gardens of Europe. It is here that the Thiou, one of the shortest rivers in France, marks the limit between the right
bank to the east and the left bank to the west. The site I want to show you follows the shore
along the quay of Bayreuth, named after the German town
twinned with Annecy. The walk offers beautiful views of the gardens of Europe and the Île aux Cygnes.
In the background stand the Parmelan mountain and Mont Veyrier.
The Bayreuth quay leads to a mooring area. From there, you can reach Marquisats beach.
From the first days of summer, this grassy beach is a very popular place for
Annecy residents and vacationers alike. Then, the walk continues on the Promenade Cheltenham,
named after the English town twinned with Annecy.
In my opinion, this is the most beautiful part of the walk.
It leads to belvederes set up in the Puya sector, with beautiful
views of the Annecy mountains, including the famous Tournette which
peaks at 2350 meters. All you have to do is turn around and follow the same path to the center of Annecy. Sevrier Sevrier is a town nestled between the
emerald waters of Lake Annecy and the green slopes of Semnoz. The center
and the various hamlets of the commune extend along a narrow
strip of land bordering the lake, widening as it descends towards the south. Sevrier is located on the Annecy – Albertville axis, the only direct road linking the country of
Faverges to Annecy via the left bank of the lake. As a result, traffic is often heavy and
traffic jams are frequent, especially during rush hours and during the summer holidays. The commune has more than 4,150 inhabitants, called the Sevriolains, and was known to
the Romans under the name of Sevriacus. Since 1990, Sevrier has been twinned with the
German town of Schluchsee, in the Black Forest. Here are six things to see during a visit to Sevrier: The Écomusée du lac d’Annecy offers an insight
into the daily life of the Savoyards in the 19th century, with fun and interactive visits suitable for all audiences, ideal for an outing with family. The Sevrier church, located
on Place de l’Église, dates from 1877 and has a neo-Gothic style. The priory, dating from the 12th century,
adjoins the church. Purchased by the municipality in 2000, this
historic building and its park are now used for cultural purposes. The municipal beach of Sevrier, completely renovated, is accessible
on foot below the church. Free and supervised in July and August,
it is completely non-smoking. The Sevrier marina has more than
400 mooring rings and is home to the landing stage of the Compagnie des Bateaux
du Lac d’Annecy for cruises on the lake. The Paccard bell foundry, founded in 1796
and based in Sevrier since 1989, produces several hundred bells each year for the
whole world, 70% of which are exported. The bell museum, created in 1984, traces the history and know-how of this famous foundry, world leader
in church bells and carillons. The Sentier des Roselières The next commune is that of Saint-Jorioz. The edge of the lake offers lovely views
of the surrounding mountains. As you walk towards the town’s
landing stage, you will have a breathtaking panorama of the right bank of the lake
overlooked by the Dents de Lanfon and La Tournette. Next door, the half-moon port is the largest
on Lake Annecy and has more than 360 mooring rings. But what I want to show you in Saint-Jorioz is a really nice
walk along the water. This is the reedbed path,
south of the marina. The trail is perfect for a family stroll
as it is accessible to strollers and even wheelchairs.
This thematic trail follows the shore for 2 km one way.
Expect the trail to be crowdy in the summer, but of course
the rest of the year the place is much quieter. Throughout this walk you will find information
panels allowing you to discover more about this protected area,
which is home to a multitude of waterfowl. Reed beds develop in the shallow parts of the lake. These fragile ecosystems perform several
essential functions, contributing to the health and ecological balance of the lake.
They provide vital habitat for a variety of aquatic and avian life.
Their dense plant tissue acts as a natural sewage treatment plant, filtering the water and
reducing the intake of unwanted substances into the lake. Additionally, the reed beds play a crucial role
in regulating water flows to the lake, acting as a sort of natural sponge.
The reedbed path follows the shore to the limit with the town of Duingt, ending at
a place called “Le Beau”. Duingt Our next stop on the left bank of Lake Annecy
is the village of Duingt. Duingt developed between the shore of the lake
and the foothills of Taillefer. This last mountain seems
to end its course in the lake, forming a rocky peninsula on
which a romantic castle stands. Another castle, of which only ruins remain today,
overlooked the site and controlled the road between Annecy and the
Tarentaise Valley, providing access to Italy. Duingt is located opposite Talloires and marks
the natural boundary of Lake Annecy between the “grand lac”, towards Annecy, and
the “petit lac”, towards Doussard. So yes, Duingt is mainly famous
for its iconic castle, which seems straight out of a postcard.
Even the famous painter Cézanne was seduced by these places, immortalizing their beauty in
his 1896 painting: “The Blue Lake”. The Châteauvieux estate, also known
as Ruphy Castle, is actually an old fortified house dating from the 11th century. The site has undergone
numerous transformations over the centuries, notably in the 18th and 19th centuries,
to acquire the appearance of a fairytale castle which is so characteristic today. However, the castle
is private property and is not currently open to visitors. Don’t leave Duingt anytime soon, as the old village is worth a visit.
Lovers of small heritage will love strolling through the narrow,
medieval-looking streets. There you will discover the mullioned windows
dating from the Renaissance and which adorned the richest houses.
But also entrances to old shops which have since been converted into homes.
There is also the arch passage which connects the Ruelle du chef-lieu to
the Rue du vieux-village. Finally, the view of the cemetery
is also worth a look. Just opposite, we can see a tower which is the vestige of the old medieval castle which controlled
the road between Annecy and the Tarentaise Valley. And, beyond, the lake, the village of
Talloires and La Tournette. The Grotto of Notre-Dame du Lac For this 5th stage, we will stay in the town of Duingt and discover a superb
panorama of Lake Annecy. To do this, we will take
the Belvédère path to reach the cave sanctuary of Notre Dame du Lac. The brief climb follows the first meters of the Taillefer trail, which then runs along
the mountain crest to Entrevernes. The path has recently been paved, making it
easier for many visitors to climb towards the Notre-Dame du Lac cave and its panorama. In addition, the climb is punctuated by the Rosary stations, inaugurated in 1889,
have recently been meticulously restored. But then, what explains the existence
of this religious site? Let’s go back to December 1854, where a tragic event marked the history of Duingt. A boat then wrecked near its banks. In a desperate gesture, the two boatmen
called for help, but in vain. In their distress, they invoked the
protection of the Virgin Mary. Shortly after, rescuers from Talloires
arrived to their rescue. To express their gratitude, the boatmen
placed a statue of the Holy Virgin in a cave in Roc de Chère, on the right bank
of the lake, opposite Duingt. However, in 1875, this precious statue was stolen. Deeply shocked by this act, the community
of Duingt decided to react. Under the direction of their priest,
they decided to install a new statue in a natural cave in Taillefer,
above the village of Duingt. But I admit that, for me, it is above all the
exceptional panorama that pushes me to go up here. It is indeed one of the most beautiful belvederes
of Lake Annecy and its surroundings. If possible, you should admire this view on a beautiful sunny day. The Col de Leschaux Route This penultimate stage is a bit special because it is a section of road to
follow between Saint-Jorioz and Leschaux. By car or bike, the road will offer you
breathtaking panoramas of the lake, the mountains and pretty villages of Savoy. To do this, you must follow the D10B then the D10 crossing the villages and
hamlets of Puget, Le Cruet, Saint-Eustache and Chapelle-Saint-Maurice, before reaching
Leschaux at the pass of the same name. It’s a mid-mountain road as we like it,
picturesque and bucolic, with its chalet villages, its forests which smell
of pine sap and its pastures where you can hear the cow bells in the distance.
These cows produce milk which will be used for production of Reblochon, Tomme and Savoie Gruyère. At the end of the route, we find ourselves at the Col de
Leschaux, at an altitude of 900 meters. This Alpine road pass is located in the Bauges massif
and connects Lake Annecy to the Cheran valley in the Savoie département.
Tour de France cyclists have crossed the Col de Leschaux three times: in 1970, in 1985 and in 2013. Le Semnoz There are three routes to go up to Le Semnoz by car. To the north, the road from Annecy reaches
the summit in 17 kilometers. The Quintal road which joins the Annecy road
7 km from the summit. Then the road which starts from the
Col de Leschaux which I advise you to follow if you take the route which we have
just discovered in the previous stage. The Col de Leschaux road is the most
impressive to reach the summit because it is sometimes located on a balcony with
beautiful views of the valley and the Taillefer. The Semnoz is entirely wooded, with the
exception of the summit plateau. It is the green lung of the Annecy conurbation and
is nicknamed “the mountain of Annecy”. On its slopes are several sites of
interest for families such as the Grande Jeanne deer park, the Alpine
botanical garden and a summer toboggan run. There are many trails offering beautiful walks,
mountain bike rides or horseback riding. In winter, Semnoz becomes the playground
for Annecy residents who can practice several winter sports: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing,
snowshoeing and even snowkiting. Semnoz has thus become a vast family
“snow stadium”, which means a ski area without the possibility
of accommodation. In summer, the mountain
pastures are used by farmers to graze their herds
of cows and sheep. This allows them to make butter, tomme,
chevrotin and reblochon. But the highlight of the show is the vast
panorama from the summit. It is one of the most beautiful
viewpoints in the French Alps. From the Crêt de Châtillon, at an altitude of 1702 meters,
you can contemplate the entire chain of the northern French Alps: the Annecy pre-Alps, the Aravis,
Mont Blanc, the Vanoise and the Ecrins. To the west, we can see the Jura range
and the first foothills of the Massif Central. If you watch this video on YouTube and

Inaudible
