I flew to Norway to ride this brand new bike and to figure out if the gravel out there is as good as people say. Let’s start with the bike. So, this is the Farah GR4, an absolute weapon of a bike. It’s got massive tire clearance, 57 mil or 2.2 in mountain bike tires. It’s got inframe storage, it’s light, and well, it looks like something perfectly built for the gravel trails of Norway. But what I’m learning as I get to ride more bikes these days is that the on paper stuff doesn’t necessarily translate to a good bike. When you ride something really good, it’s got this feeling and all you can think about is when your net’s going to get back out on it. And this bike definitely hit that mark. Secondly though, what is the riding like in Oslo? Well, despite an absolutely savage winter, I was surprised to hear how big the cycling community was out there. There’s massive group rides that go out from the city every single week all through winter. So much so they have to put studded tires on the bike. But to be honest, I’m not surprised because 20 minutes from the middle of Oslo are hundreds of kilometers of gravel trails where you can tick off the Scandi trio of lakes, trees, and absolute isolation all in a postwork loop from the capital day.
