[Music] This episode is presented by Shaw. October sees the under20s from countries around the world battling it out to see who has the best youth international team. It reminds me of when I was at the start of my career. At that age, there’s already lots of pressure to perform and you just want to get better and better. So, keeping calm and fresh is so important. If I could give younger me a tip, I’d say keep Shaw’s non-stop protection range of antipersperence to hand. It has 72-hour non-stop sweat and odor protection that’ll keep you dry and fresh on and off the pitch. Shop now at Boots. Sure, it won’t let you down. Welcome to Football Fill in everybody. Liverpool lost again. That’s three defeats in a week. But do you know what it means, lads? Slots getting sacked. No, he’s definitely not getting sacked. The Premier League’s alive. The Premier League’s alive. WTO is correct. The Premier League’s alive. Um, it means that anybody’s going to win the Premier League this year. And that’s what we want to see. We don’t want to see Liverpool running away with it, do we? Arsenal are in there. Man City are in there. Newcastle, Tottenham, Bournemouth. There’s a there’s a title fight. There’s a relegation battle. Gosh, going to be the best year ever. Uh, it’s not a relegation battle. Wolves are just going down and West Ham. Simple as that. I’m only joking. I’m only joking. Right. Should we talk about Liverpool getting lads? Yes. What a game. Did you see um Virgil van Djk doing his bum backyaky bum thing? Yeah. Well, can we talk about that? Yeah, I wanted to ask you about it because obviously when both him and Kenati back off like we we well you more so than me but you’d always been used to that Nike ball and it seems to me that a lot of balls are getting struck from outside the box and they’re firing in. Last year I mentioned that the Nike ball I think had got 10 km an hour quicker over its period of the Premier League. So 19 20 years but we’ve not used this Puma ball. So I’d be interested from a goalie’s perspective just to find out whether it’s moving quicker. I would love to. We need to get we need to get a fcast with a current Premier League goalie. Right. And I need to find this out because I agree. What? Right. So I watched a couple of the games yesterday. I watched the Newcastle game then obviously the Manchester City game. Um, and the amount of balls that were hit over the top for people to run onto and they just kept skidding out what they kept. And it’s like not only do they fly faster, but I also think when they hit the deck, the material on the ball, it must be a slippier surface. Do you not think they’re just playing people were playing more risky passes and playing a bit more direct? Maybe it just seemed that there was an awful lot that stuck out yesterday. Just seemed to be like rifling in the back of the net, didn’t like Dippy ones seem to be more Yeah. Don’t you think like the Premier League was getting a bit like slow ponderous boring people were saying and now there’s more crosses going in the box people shooting from distance you got the long throws maybe the ball’s affecting that I want to touch on that at some point but yeah the long throw um but the goal I just think at some point somebody has to step in there one of them one of them has to step in you can’t let Kai everybody knows Kai’s got a hammer foot on him VBD you go or am I going you’ll go in well I I’ll go look he seems like He’s obviously been the main man for so long and people obviously don’t want to criticize somebody who’s been a top top performer, but like he’s not immune for criticism and ultimately at some point somebody’s got to go and engage at that action because whether the balls are quicker this Pummer ball or not, you allow somebody with any quality a fair sight of goal, they’re going to be able to take it and it going to have to be a top top save. So I I were critical of his movement and not getting up to the board. Somebody somebody got to go and engage at some point. Canate is a bit of a a full guy, right? And he hasn’t he’s had a couple of kind of suspect games, but I I agree with Otto. think VVD is almost like beyond um criticism sometimes and we’ve spoke about it off camera a few times and like he does that stalking kind of running where right like you watch it yesterday and you go go to him and if it gets slipped down beside you fair enough. Do you know what I think he’s so used to having the best goalie in the world behind him that he knows even if he does shoot from 25 30 yards that he’s probably going to make the save anyway so he ain’t going to worry about it. Do you not think he’s he’s kind of like Van Dijk now is secondguessing everything that is happening because Kenati has made so many mistakes at the start of the season. So like he’s almost thinking right I need to think a bit more about protecting him. So like it’s taking it a bit more away from himself as well and obviously that takes away the instance of the goal and what you’re talking about being exposed down the sides but I do think that maybe in general play there’s times where he’s thinking right I don’t know what Canard is going to do so do I help him? I don’t I don’t think there’s I think there’s a more selfish element than that. I want to hear Watau’s opinion. WTO was with him at Southampton. WTO knows him well, right? But I think there’s a more selfish reason with VVD than that. I I I almost like he defends where he wants to defend. Yeah, I would call him a zonal defender and he’s got a zone that he really likes to protect and if he gets out of that zone, he’s going to get exposed. He’s going to get exposed. So certainly down that fullback side, he didn’t want to go out there and start overprotecting. And in some ways, I think that’s uh an area that Liverpool can get exposed cuz he don’t want to step out into that left channel. And ultimately, he don’t want to vacate that middle area. So if you can always get runners in between the full if the fullbacks are marking or you can get midfield runners in between him and the fullback, he’s in a world of pain unless a six. But as a center as a center half, any position you play, you play to your strengths, don’t you? You know, that’s your strength. You don’t want to put yourself out and be vulnerable. Why would you do that? It’s like a winger that doesn’t take people on. Why would you try and take people on? That’s just the way that you’ve got to think like as a player. You have to play lesser of two evils as such. You know, play play to the lesser of two evils. You’ve just got to look after yourself. Who steps out there toes for you as as a as a center back your whole life? Go in. Who who has to be the one to step out there? One of them. Definitely. I mean, Van Dijk. Van Dijk’s looking at the run in case he gets slotted down the side, isn’t it? But it’s way too late anyway. He’s like pretty much on the edge of the box. It’s too late. Someone has to have engage. The lesser of two evil. Yeah, you have to. At some point, you just got to go. You’ve got to go and trust that your left back’s going to tuck in. That’s just what you have to do. What Tom’s saying about the selfishness of it instead of getting exposed by somebody passing it down the side by just stepping out. He’s done neither. So just sort of by standing there, you can kind of go maybe. But is he not trusting his left back then? Is that is that what it is? So he’s not trust if he goes, is he not trusting his left back? or center have to come in. I think that’s a good point because you’ve got a new goalie in now because of injury. You got a new left back and a shaky struggling and right back you’ve had Robertson and Sosai. So like at the minute there’s a lot there’s a lot of things floating around in there. What’s going wrong with Liverpool? Did you see Genev on Kirk? Yes. Absolutely batteratted him. Wow. Called him a youn player. Called him called him a youth team player. Said he looks like he’s playing for the under 18 for the academy. Is that a bit harsh? There’s times where he does look a little bit like that. He looks so um overroled by it all and such rush of blood. He keeps coming in. He keeps doing stuff. I’m thinking, mate, would you not have Andy Robertson in there? I think you I think they’re going to have to go back to that. I think they’re going to have to go back to nice and settled and steady. Yeah, but Robertson as well on on the winning goal. He’s 40. But Robertson No, he’s not 40. He’s still class, but he’s not as class as he was. That’s why everybody’s happy with how the league is because Liverpool’s defensive unit, the back four and the goalie at the minute there is nothing. solid about that unit at all and that’s what’s given every Andy Robertson 31 years old right and I think there’s so much up in the air about him at the minute and this and but it’s because somebody’s coming and taking his place he don’t really know whether to come or go at the minute he nearly got a move in the summer to Atletico Madrid I think he’s a bit all over theshot if they said right Andy you’re going to be the one that’s going to be starting for the next month for the next two months or so I think you’ll see the best Andy Robertson back again okay but I just don’t know what the answer is for did he weaken his stance did he say in the summer or in the last season something about uh he loves it uh he’d love to love a new contract or something along them lines, wasn’t it? So maybe he’s weakened himself all the stuff, won’t it? And he said he said it no one’s talking about my day. Trent had gone to Real Madrid and I think he he put it out there but there is a feel and a little sniff about that and you know what the level that they’re operating at in the Premier League a little bit of vulnerability and actually teams have uh capitalized. doesn’t need to be panic stations, does it? Cuz, you know, the football community can be a bit quick to pile on. And yes, they’ve lost three in a row, but it it’s they’re just having a little blip and finding their feet, aren’t they? Should we give Chelsea some love as well? Yeah. Oh, they deserve it. Yeah. I mean, should we give Chelsea some love? Because Chelsea for me, they’re very inconsistent Chelsea. I don’t fully know what I’m going to get from. I It didn’t surprise me that they won the game, but then on the other I wouldn’t have been surprised if they lost two or three nil either, right? Um, but in this game, they were very, very good. And I I think Moresca needs a bit of credit for it. You know, he were on the front foot with his subs. Uh and I think because he’d played Mourinho in the week, he thought if I get a winner, I’m going to do that Mourinho run down the touch line. So, he went for it and he didn’t give a [ __ ] where he got a red card. No problem. We’ve had three points and I’m going for it. But I like the mentality of the team. Oh, I just want to touch on that. Mesa, I think it’s embarrassing that he got yellow card. Why? Why? He’s allowed to celebrate and show the emotion of scoring a last minute winner. No, the rules. It’s It shouldn’t even be a rule. Like I get like taking your top off and all that stuff, but players aren’t allowed to show any emotion. I’m going off on a tandem here, by the way. Not allowed to show any emotion. Decision. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. I’m on my bike down in pad. Miss on the back doing nothing again. But anyway, sorry. So, she um she’s still on the back. But I think when players get decisions against them, they’re not allowed to go up to the ref, not the ref or whatever. They’re not allowed to express any sort of emotion. Everything’s like you throwing your toys out the pram and and you’re not allowed to do that. You get booked for, you get punished for it. Just I think it’s a shame. I think there’s certain occasions and certain times where I would just say if if I was the owner of that football club or somebody that’s handing out the fines for play, I would go, “You know what, Enzo, I’ll let you off this one here, mate. I I’m backing you here. You can do whatever you want when we score a last minute goal like that. It’s a massive goal for them. But with the manager and the fines, who finds them? The club. He will have obviously have a contract with the club. It depends whether he would get like if they’ve got anything in there or not. I’d be surprised if they had to be. The only time he might get done is if it’s an FA charge as well. So when the FA charges I think they get something in the technical area rather than running down or speaking out in a press conference. Your manager got sent off, didn’t he? For starting and balling. No, he kicked something. He kicked something. Did you say? Yeah, he’s booted something and then very quickly he’s realized and he’s ran off apologizing. Wait, did you see Chris do it, mate? Chris, mate, he’s booted the ball into the crowd, into the fans, hit somebody in the dish as well. And he’s trying to act like he didn’t even mean to do it. Yeah. All right, mate. He’s fully leveled it as well. I loved his assistant after the game. Chris Chris wouldn’t mean to do that, mate. Oh my god. Um, just there’s a difference between that, the emotion, and doing something stupid. going down the touch line is completely different. I I wasn’t surprised they they won it though, Chelsea. We uh we had a party to go to. So, we left with like we 90 second minute we left, right? We got in the Uber 92nd to minute. And I said to Louis, I was like fume in the Uber’s here. I guarantee you somebody’s going to win this game. Cuz I think there was five or six minutes injury time in the car straight away. Chelsea scored that. I went no they haven’t. He went they have. They’ve scored. We checking obviously for I want cooker to score for my fancy and all that kind of stuff. Either way, I just knew it was coming because the way they were playing in the game, they were so open. They they were dangerously open in fact at sometimes cuz Liverpool could have broken either way as a great he’s um he’s tearing it up isn’t heed. Kaiseda fantastic mate. Fantastic. Worth every penny I’d say. Well, it’s interesting is it when you compare him then to Vertz who’s obviously coming to the Premier League with a massive price tag and actually found it difficult to to get the straps running. Um but I think ultimately in time he’ll be a good player. But it just shows you and that’s why Liverpool are just not getting the cog. I think defensively they look a little bit vulnerable but they’ve not got that midfield set up properly. I don’t think either. Do you know what’s interesting actually of the of theundred million pound players that have been bought in the Premier League? Kaisedo is probably the only one really where you go yeah what are we talking in like generally generally Declan Rice there as well but Kaisedo like you know Yeah. I wouldn’t say he rips it like that. You wouldn’t you’d never say he’s that kind of money would you? But that that player there, he is unreal. Dean Rice Million players. Oh, mate, he’s a dog. Yeah, love it. I think they’re both I think they’re both worthid. I really do. You know what you’re going to get from them and they deliver every single time. Brilliant players. Um, should we talk about Man City, lads? Well, if we talk about Man City, is Carrier right? Cuz we talked about Kane and Harland last week. So is he the greatest goal scorer of all time already? Right. So Harry Kane cannot score this goal that Erin Harland No, he cannot score that. Not many players in world football can score this goal that Erling Harland can. You thought it would toer outside center half, didn’t you? When rolled past. Honestly, I I was watching it and I I I swore at the telly, I said, “Oh, [ __ ] off.” Like, no chance, mate. Unbelievable. He knows exactly what he’s doing at every little stage of that goal, right? He as soon as he gets touch contact with you, done. See you later, mate. What you doing? The defender, I’m thinking, mate, just back off. Just try and stand. Try and turn him round. As soon if Harland Erin Harland’s got you and pinning you and roll it, you’re done. Honestly, you’re done. And he just does it. Turns you into a little boy, doesn’t it? Little boy, get out the way. Boom. Goal. The finish as well. So sharp, isn’t he? But even like when he he kind of it does his man, but it’s the speed in the sharpness of what he does is unbelievable. Center forward in the Premier League can do that. It’s incredible. It’s incred. But also like from a defending point of view, I think it’s so naive because you know that he’s stronger than you. You know that he’s quicker than you. you and you’re trying to bump him up and push him around and thing toes. Is it an ego thing? Because you as a defender, center back, you’re always thinking, I’m one of the biggest, strongest on this team. I’m going to show you. No, I’ll get in his face. I’ll show him. And then when he finally bumps you cuz he’s quicker and more powerful than you and you go flying, you go uhoh. Oh [ __ ] We saw it last week with Kate against Mateta. There was that ego thing. It’s got to be an ego. I suppose it is. But then also like the way that they’re the way that they’re doing that like he’s he’s trying to get have a fight with Harland. You know that Harland’s quick and strong. What are you doing? Get get go go goal side cuz you know Harland with the total respect if he’s got the ball into his feet, you’d rather that facing away from the goal rather than having a bit of space down the side to get a shot off. Like you just know that again lesser of two evils. But what it’s the power. Yeah. Because there’s so many different factors that you need to have as a footballer. Like most players are about as strong as each other. You get them in the gym, weights and all the they’re all about as strong as each other. But power is where the pace is introduced as well, right? And Erin Ireland is so electrically quick that the power that he can generate in a single movement is more than any of the defenders. Do you think there’s many players that score that goal in the Premier League? Many strikers? Not even in Premier League history, mate. No. As in like now. So No, there’s nobody in the Premier League. But Jocker is in that situation. No, he’s not scoring that. No, he’s not scoring that. Kane obviously not Premier League. He can’t do that. Nobody. Not even in Premier. No, nobody’s got that power. Nobody. Nobody’s got They got the pace and not the power. You’re talking about Premier League history. like the little bit of timing as well cuz I think that you the point you make about players are very very strong but it’s having the nouse just to know when he were a little bit vulnerable and his body weight just dro the clever bits would score that goal maybe even a Rooney but Drogba would score that goal for you boom get out the way soon as he’s got contact with you and the game over has the power but not that much power no chance yeah no chance so what do we think about Rodri like cuz yeah he he’s done his ammy I think by the looks But City can’t possibly be that team that when one I know he’s the Ballindor one, but when one player goes, you go, “Oh, no. They’re going to have this run now.” But I think it was a precaution. I don’t know. He looked like he was in a bad way. If you look at his facials when he sat down, he sat down and he looked like he was going white. Genuinely, like he knows he had done something to his ham, right? And you could tell, right? I think body language when a player does an injury, you can tell straight away if they know they know. I mean, like again, I’ve I’ve had it where I’ve had a knee injury and I come back into training the first day back in training, my knee just broke down. And to be fair, like I just felt like crying. It’s like you’ve worked so hard and and it’s not as bad as his, but he’s worked for months and months and months to get his body back into probably better shape than it’s ever been. And it just breaks down in one moment. You’re like, it just needs to go what the scan says. I think he did an interview after the game where he said, you know, I felt something in my hand. Hopefully, it’ll be good. But mate, I’ve seen so many players where they’ve gone, nah, I think it’s all right. They’ve gone for a scan. It’s a grade three fully like ripped and shredded. Like adrenaline like honestly it helps your body so much. You need a couple days for it to settle down. Go and get the scan because you need the fluid to move a little bit and then the timing is good, isn’t it? Cuz it’s obviously international so it’s clearly not going to go away in Spain, is he? Man, Man City in fairness, they were brilliant. Honestly, they absolutely battered Brenford. Battered them from the get-go as well. Brenford, but they still needed Donn. Look, look at the save. Right. This is this is honestly why I love this guy as well. The save is phenomenal. Yeah. So all he’s doing, watch Don Rum’s eyes. All he’s doing is watching the ball. He don’t care about the player. He’s watching the ball and he’s watching his little feet movement there and he’s just transfixed with it. And I’m thinking, you’re going to make the save here because you don’t you’re not worrying about twisting your body or getting hurt. You’re just watching the ball. Makes himself so big as well, don’t it? Well, I going to come on to this cuz I think it was a massive save and it went down underrated just because of how good he is. Exactly. But like when I were watching um Drafica made loads of saves against Villa, but there’s one save that he has a spreading save. I think it hits his ass. He’s looking back at the halt end and all that. And that’s the difference between the two and I think the very very best a Martinez a Donnaruma and Allison at you but the head position and focus is massive. And he had one moment in that game and and he come through it. But I I think he’s obviously added a great dynamic to the to the team. I think the one thing for me with City is I hope Rodri’s not bad. He might be six, eight weeks am for sure, but it’s the mentality of the rest of the group around him. I think they dropped off last year when they knew he were missing for such a long period of time. But I think they’ve got enough quality. They got a bit of steel about him, haven’t they, this year, City, which has been, you know, never been seen before basically. But I think as well, last season they had a crumble in the last five minutes, you know, when they’re getting bombarded. The balls were going in the box, throwins, big mate. GG like Don R had warm the ball was about to go out for a corner and he quickly just like he just patted it down for his mate and his mate run away with it. I’m thinking that’s brilliant. We know Edison what a game changer for City in what he did with the ball at his feet but what you’ve got now is you’ve got a goalie who will dominate his area and keep the ball out of the net and he’s at a different level in terms of that type of goalie than Edison. Have you seen anything in the first seven or eight games, Fuzzy, that makes you think that it’s it’s going to be anybody else other than City, Liverpool or Arsenal? Or is it a three-h horse race, do you reckon, or Newcastle were good yesterday? Newcastle were very good. They’ll do very well to get into to get into involved in that. I don’t know if whether they’ve got quite that much quality, but um Newcastle absolutely popped Forest yesterday, like batteratted them. In fact, look at look at Arley say about quality. So Odigard, I think he’s the first player in Premier League history to be three in a three in a row first half subs but you look at who they bring on and it’s like Zubendi and that Arsenal bench does look I know I felt for honestly though I feel for Oda got so badly as well because it’s just one thing after again it’s good timing that it’s international break so hopefully if it’s a two- three week you’re not going to miss too much for him there but three games in a row oh my god that’s the good thing about that is they’re all contact injuries like they are you know it’s nothing where you’re going oh hang on what’s up with him there yeah if he’s ripped something or pulled something and it’s going to be a month two months A clash of knees in there. That is that’s no another good win. It’s like a It was just a bit of a routine win for for Arsenal. West Ham like miles off it. I think they had the best chance in the last kick of the game pretty much ahead of that. But other than that, they had they started the game really well probably the first 30 seconds. Oh yeah. And then the old bit forward. What did you think about like the Timber penalty being, you know, starts outside and it drags into inside? For me, for me as an Arsenal fan, I don’t think it’s a penalty. I think I I don’t I don’t see it as a penalty. Who was it? The Bruno one, was it a few weeks ago for Man United against Burnley? Do you remember it? Started outside, went inside. Yeah, I just I don’t know. I don’t think there was enough contact in the box after. Like, I just don’t I just don’t see it as a penalty. Yeah, it’s I I agree. It’s a little bit soft, but I thought Arsenal were so comfortable in that game. I think um West Ham were just hoping hoping for something to come. You know what I mean? But I thought Rice, you know, you talk, we talked earlier about what’s been real good value for money. He’s repaid that transfer fee a million times. Just so reliable in what he does for Arsenal and he knows his limits within it, but he lets the other guys do the bits and he just plays so secure and safe. Um, his reaction to the goal against his old team, just showed you the classes. What do you make of Jock so far, W? What’s your early early season analysis so far? I think he’s still really really finding his feet and I I think obviously he’s he’s got off the mark. He scored a couple of goals for sure, but I I think he’s finding it tougher than I think he anticipated. I think the quality of the defenders has probably surprised him. I I watch pretty much try and watch every Arsenal game I can. But with Joarez, he I feel like he’s desperate to score and desperate to do something. It’s almost like he’s inferior to the other players. Like he almost feels like he’s not as good as them, but he wants to prove that he is as good as them, if that makes sense. Yeah, it does. But also because he’s such a been such a proven prolific goal scorer, he’s getting the chances and he’s fancing himself which is great. He’s not lost that confidence. I don’t know. Just I just don’t know if he looks very willing. He looks really trying. Yeah, I’d say I’d say if he didn’t look as willing then there would be a massive questions being asked. But he has changed the team. So like now they have runners down. He runs he runs beyond beyond the defense which they weren’t having last season. He battles with the defenders. He he’ll beat him up. He’ll try and beat him up. Do you think he’ll end up with a what did we say at the start of the season? Did we say did we say 18 to 20? Didn’t we 20? Yeah. I still reckon he’ll end up there. I still think he’s got a good chance of that. Yeah, I do. I still think he’s got a good chance. I’m not sure now because obviously he were on penalties when Saka were injured. Sack takes that penalty. I think What’s a pen as well? A great pen. I think I think he’s going to I don’t think he’ll get to any this season. Talking about good penalties. Nick Voldem you really like him, you know. I do. I really like him, mate. He He’s a bit of all sort. He’s never going to be that quick one down the middle getting he he he comes in, drops in, sort of lays it down, plays off, and then tries to get into the box to get on to flickers and stuff like that. Aesthetically as pleasing as most, but what a mate, I love it. The output honestly and the outcomes he’s going to have are going to be absolutely huge. Look at um Jockarez, right? And obviously that’s a team full of quality. The bench is stacked with quality and Newcastle have got a lot of quality as well, but he is the kind of player that has bought in. They have pinpointed and targeted him and they have bought him in and they are playing for him. Yes. Aren’t they? They are literally playing for him. And as a result of that, he’s going to get his fair share of goals, isn’t he? Yes. Exactly. Yeah. He’s um honestly I tell you what, for the size of him, he’s got great feet. Great feet. Great. Say good touch for a big man. Not good touch for a big man, but his feet are good. They’re tidy. Really tidy. Good balance. So Forest obviously like they’ve had all these problems with defending set pieces conceding got the last place you want to be going to is St. James’s Park. So Newcastle right you look at the balls that they’re getting into the box and the players they’ve got attacking it. You got big damn Burn the new center back to or Tia or whatever his name is Volada. Yeah Volto Joe Linton’s an we’re talking 6’5 plus. Yeah. All of these horrible show was on the bench but like absolute unit coach but oh horrible I love tenali I love he’s the one who makes them he’s got everything he can get into any team league I promise you he is is work I’ll be surprised if he’s there at the end of the season you get you get trip just absolute bombs on he’s trying to get tanali goes all right cool I just fill in not even no questions asked talk about power he is a powerhouse that midfield is powerful that’s I think Newcastle can top four. They’ve got if they if they keep fit I think the champion they keep fit honestly they’ve got a chance. They need visa back fit as well don’t they? Cuz forget that he’s injured. I need to ask Wat though. So I was watching it and as a as an adopted goalie I like to think I said to um I said to Watt Matt Sel’s got to do better for that Bruno goal. I said he’s got it was a really good goal but the lack of foot movement like worried me a bit. He’s low. He’s not explosive. the hand position don’t give him a chance to save the ball. And if you break it down, it goes in Yeah. relatively the middle of the goal. And I think you always look at it and question, but I said off air, if if you actually watch Voltoard’s penalty and forget that bit and just look at the dynamic of the goalie, you see everything that probably puts Cells in a position of not being able to save the first goal because he’s low even for the penalty. So, he makes the goal look big. His hands are low, his hands fire back, so you’re losing time all the time. Then he has a jump. So if you put all three of them elements together, he’s never gonna save that penalty. But that is how he keeps goal. So if you transfer that back to the first goal and then you have everything that happens, that’s why it’s gone past. Is it not like when I look at it, I I kind of in my head obviously go as a layman think it’s a couple of step movements and then he explodes. He just the reason the reason why he doesn’t make the save is the very first part of it is where Gimmere gets the ball out of his feet and he’s almost falling back a little bit really. So there’s only one movement he can do. There’s only one um t technique he can execute in that is the sort of inside of the foot kind of like curly curly. It’s the only thing he can do. He can’t just get his boot through it. So he has to do this right. So as a goalie you’ve got to be looking around your defender and the defender sort of in the way but you have to look around that. Right. And as soon as you see the player doing that, you’ve got to be on the move. You’ve got to be on the move as a goalie. So you need to take and he’s too far out as well. He’s too far out. He’s near the edge of his six yard. You need to be taking a couple steps back diagonally towards the left side, right? And then you’re in a place cuz your feet are already firing at that point. So you’re in a place to be able to actually push off, but he didn’t do any of that. He’s watching it. It’s just about that now. This is where the best goalies, they see it coming. Yeah. They see it coming and are able to get their feet moving and popping before the ball’s even. This is something that that doesn’t often get talked about in in punditry and commentary enough is the movement from the goalkeeper because you compare it to I know it was a different type of effort on goal but Robin Roofs against Bruno and that save that he made you look at his footwork and he has shifted across goal and then he’s just Bruno’s almost seem like a better attempt than um yeah they’re both Bruno aren’t they? Bruno Fernandez’s were a better attempt than Bruno Gavaris. I think for a goalie who’s just come into the Premier League because you as a defender, you’re just in that line and you’re using your right leg to try and block the bender, but Rooster has already a not stood behind the defender, but read the body shape of Bruno and knows that there’s nothing else other than that bender. And it’s momentum that’s gums then to drive. You’re never going to say. So not the defender there hasn’t like blindsided them. He’s almost helped the keeper. He helps the help as long as the goalie does what the goalie should do. And that’s not stand. That’s good to know because as well before you’d say some keepers would be like, “Oh, you blind you blindsided me. You blindsided me. I can’t see the ball. Can’t see the ball.” But it’s like you said there someone you got to trust. So I I think this is the polar opposite to Darlow for the winning goal for Spurs. So obviously when is it tell it’s not tells that’s the first goal. I was going to ask you about that one. Yeah, tells you the first one but the second one when he comes inside so the um Sunderland defender shows his right leg and Rooster is outside it read it and gone. Darlow’s thinking when he steps inside the defender’s showing him again inside and Darlow’s thinking he he’s going that way. Yeah, but he gamles a little bit because I have to trust that you’re going to block some of the goal because if I hide behind you and he bends it, it’s in. And I always think the goal is at the very very top. No, they’ve got to save it like Rof did. But he’s Darlow’s not had the metrics to be able to come back after the deflection, which um looks a soft goal. Both goals look soft, but the little nicks have hurt him and he’s not had a drive with his left hand side to get it. His hands are too low anyway. on the first goal that I the first thing I thought having been with you guys and the way you say about you’re better off having your hands up high to get them down rather than down to get up high and I thought feet and from that close you can use your feet to try and make the saves like made an unbeliev Matt S actually made a really good foot save somebody else did I think it was a Brighton goalkeeper then saved them but you got to have your hands in a higher position there because they from that that angle there they can still get in the top corner and I know it took a deflection still got to be up there a little bit there’s a camera image of his face as it’s passed him first goal and it’s like oh no and he knows he could have done better you know what I mean and you you just always look at the facial expression and and the reaction um but yeah I think Cell’s obviously got the golden glove last year but I think in his techniques yeah I I think people are finding a few more flaws um Forest but make avenge he can’t he can’t get sacked Glad he can’t can he come on do you know what Forest are a brilliant brilliant football club and they’ve got a brilliant brilliant fan base, but if they get relegated, I’d almost for the owner, I almost want them to. Oh, wow. Oh, well. Well, I think from the outside, mate, I mean, it’s it looks very bad, doesn’t it? I think Nuno will know what he’s going to produce at West Ham eventually, even though they had a tough day at Arsenal, but Arsenal a top top team. We’re thinking they might go on and win it this year. Is this not Daft though from the owner? Because like this is Nuno’s team. This is Nuno’s team. They played different to everyone else last season and they were brilliant. But now you’ve got an who’s a polar opposite the way he wants to play and they’ve took him out the pointed an I think there’s there’s only ever going to be his recipe for disaster. You’ve got like Chris Woods not firing the way he was. You you said something really sensible earlier which doesn’t often happen. Surprise you that way. I tell you what that’s a compliment from him. Wow. Might be a backhanded compliment but that is a compliment and I’d take that from So um he said basically do you think that the reason why Forest aren’t firing is because obviously after the decision to change the manager to get rid of Nuno? Do you reckon the players almost think, do you know what, we really like Nuno? And don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they like an as well, but that leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth when you go and sack the guy that’s done what he’s done for us, got us into helped get us into you, like a great manager for us. We’re all good friends and he’s just gone and sacked him like that cuz you could tell they were fighting for Nuno every single every single thing. And that drop off of even if it’s 5% subconsciously that little drop off right that is enough between winning games most of your games and going down with a bit of a whimper because honestly they went down with a right whimper they did against what are the players thinking at that point the guys got them into Europe highest position Forest have finished in the Premier League for what 30 years 40 years I don’t know um and and you only get that by creating a real collective yes Nuno sets them up tactically but there’s a feel around that group, players and staff, and you’ve got that unity. Normally managers and coaches leave predominantly unless you’re at the lower end of the leagues and you’re trying to get up there as a manager. At the top level, you normally leave because you got the sack. You’re not you’re not normally leaving for bigger and better things. And Forest were in a real stable position, very very good at what they do. And I think there were a lot of love and feel around the place for the coaches and staff. That now has all changed. They can’t surely like anybody from the outside can’t understand the chairman’s decision cuz it’s absolutely bonkers. Them guys have gone and they were set up as you said to play a certain way and these guys have come in and I know I know the goalie coach Rob Burch really good guy really good coach and they’ll be trying to do everything. An I don’t know so well but obviously it he’s a good guy. He’ll create an atmosphere there but they can’t play football. our Nuno did and RE once, but they’re just like, why has this happened? We’re on the front necessary. You break it down into its simplest form, right? You’re on to a good thing. Yeah. Right. And the the owner has to get past his ego and go, do you know what I mean? It’s it’s going well. Whatever I think towards don’t matter. No, don’t matter. Yeah. Swallow your pride. Wait till January at least. So then you’re gonna bring a manager in that can bring in a couple of players. We saw at the end of last season though, didn’t we toes when he came on the pitch and right there and then we all were like this is a problem. Are getting relegated? No, they’ll be they’ll be close. They’re in the mix. I’m going to tell you why they’ll not because the point you just made is he going to bite his ego and this window uh sorry this international break say I’ve made a bad decision. Yeah, but who then? Would they could can they suck him this international break? They can, but they shouldn’t. It’s the owner accepting that he’s made a boo. He can’t. He But but then that flies in the face of his ego. He’s going to He’ll stick with it to show everybody, no, I made the right decision. Can’t continue like this, can it? Ben, oh, it can. But mate, you were telling us, you were telling us the fixtures they’ve got. You want You want want to be coming back after that international knowing them fixes? They’ve got Man United coming up soon. away at Bournemouth. Liverpool a few weeks later, Porto in the Europa. Um right, should we talk about um Bournemouth? Can we talk about Bournemouth? Yes. Friday night. Friday night. A windswept wet fire. Right. And if you haven’t got him in your fancy now, by the way, then you’re all too late. You’re dick. Too late. Too late. You’re [ __ ] You deserve everything. Sexy season, is it? Oh, it’s ridiculous. He just But for the pace he’s got, the power he’s got, just two feet. Two feet. willing runner works hard when he’s when he’s made the goalie. So good. I can’t speak highly enough of Bournemouth. I love him. I just love him. The manager I’m sure we’ve said this week in week out on here. We’re we’re buzzing off them. Right. So where where are born from the league? Fourth, are they at the minute? I think they got Palace next. What a game that’ll be. Six. Semen’s got after Friday night they were second I think when the Yeah, they were second going. You know what is with him though like with Semeno? Fourth. Yeah. He goes past players like they’re not there. Like he just ghosts past them, doesn’t he? Two off the top. And he’s still a good age. I think he’s like 25. He just signed a new contract in the summer, right? Bournemouth are thanking their lucky stars because of all the players that left, he could he would have been right at the top of the list of players that could have left. Yeah. And maybe even should have left. Yeah. But fair play to Bournemouth for keeping him and giving him giving him a new contract as well. He signed a four, five year, which you’d expect. What? But a team like Bournemouth, what kind of money do you reckon he’s on? Oh, they pay good money. Bournemouth do. They’ve always paid good money. Really good money. Yeah. Yeah. For the last for the last eight years, they’ve been paying 100 granders. Yeah. Really? Really good money. Surprising. Is this Is this You’re in the know now? Yeah. Yes. 100 granders they’ve been paying. So, what do you reckon he’s on? What do you reckon? He’ll be on over 100 grand a week. See, in my head, I was thinking 120. Yeah, probably. Yeah, probably. That’s where I’d have been. Yeah, probably. I’d have had about 80. No, he’d be on 120, but now he’s doing he’s an 80 million pound player. You know what I mean? that if if Bournemouth sold him in the January transfer window for 90 million quid, nobody would raise him. Does he get into most teams? Most teams, most teams, one of the best right now he’s on fire, but over the course of last season and the start of this season, one of the most one of the best players in the last couple of seasons in the Premier League, he’s showed some real consistency at the I think that’s why he’s obviously got a new contract, but that’s why he’s worth Yes. I mean, in the market, 70 80 million and and probably you’re not going to bat an island. I think if they sold him for 70, Bournemouth fans will be up in arms. I promise you they’ll be up in arms. They want you look at Ez went for 60. Exactly. Honestly, he’s the real deal on leftsided players. Jack Greish popping up with a winner. You You’re happy for him, mate. We’re all happy for him, aren’t we? We all like Did you see his interview after the game? Just didn’t actually. Jack Gish, mate, just buzzing. I can’t believe it, mate. Unbelievable. I just read him just play. Sounds like I know. Um, what a finish. What a finish. They they they didn’t deserve anything from this game. Honestly, I could not believe. You say that. You say that didn’t deserve anything from the game. They were getting battered. Right. But they stayed in the game and they they waited till the end and the momentum of the game and the crowd lifted them. So you I totally agree, mate. Football’s in 1900 games. Exactly. People go, I battered them in the first half. Well, what about the second half? Yeah, it’s great. It’s great. And they had a 10-minute spell where they got their goals and they did what they did. And I don’t I don’t mind. I love it. I love this bit about football where you can get past. That’s the one thing you can’t change for football. Momentum in a game. They get a penalty from absolutely nothing. Palace have missed chance after chance after chance. Pigford’s made some amazing saves. To be fair, Henderson made a couple of big saves as well. So, Everton weren’t totally out of it, but then they get the penalty and then you’re thinking you wanted to be at the old ground. Goodison Park. The momentum had suck you in a little bit. But to be fair, the fans are good at at the new uh stadium. I’d like to go there. Yeah, I would like to go there. Stadium. Yeah. Is it a good atmosphere? Fans were good. Good atmosphere. They’ve got they’ve tried to make it a bit like the Dortmund wall at the back of one of the goals. It’s quite steep. Bit like Spurs. Um Yeah. And they absolutely took three points from nowhere cuz I think Palace would have been gutted at 1-1. So to get lose as well. Glasnner was good after the game as well to be fair. He did his interview and he was he basically said, “Listen, like there’s games where we’ve got a little bit of luck.” He said, “But today we’ve not had very much luck to be honest. We we’re disappointed we didn’t even win the game yet. Alone we’ve lost it.” But he was like dead respectful from it. He was like, you know, is what it is. David Moyes just finds a way, doesn’t he? To find a way, mate. Brilliant. Like brilliant old school manager like the sort of manager that West Ham needed and got rid of and needed. Trust him. Yeah. You know what you get. But with Greish, do you think do you think he’s you know back in contention for the England squad? Is it true? Is it true that Everton have put in their bio, I’m guessing it’s the Instagram bio, updated the bio and they’ve put Greley for England. Yeah, they’ve just got rid of like I love that European Cup winners here and blah blah blah winners there and always Premier League forever and stuff and just put Jack G. That’s classic. Yeah, it’s good, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s good. Fact, they’ve done something there. Nobody’s ever done that before, has it? Yeah. How far away is he? Um I I think it might be a bit too late for him. I do. I just think for the World Cup. Yeah, I do. I just think he’s probably maybe a little bit too old. He’s 30. What? For for for the manager and for what he’s trying to do and for how he sees it. I just think the reason probably why he hasn’t been picked is because of his age. It’s got to be what else can it be? Look at how else can it be? We spoke about it a few weeks ago and sometimes in tournament football when these teams play like a deep defensive line and whatever and and you need that little bit of somebody just to beat their man. Yeah, but we’ve got a lot of them now. And do you not think I actually agree now? I’m just thinking, do you think like that that love of Jack Greish is like kind of gone from you when we played Germany and the Euros that time and the fans are singing like to get him on and stuff. Do you not think that ship sailed a little bit? Unless he absolutely rips it up, you know, until January, February when the next international. He’s got to prove some consistency at the level because he’s not played for such a long time. But we know he’s got that consistency at the level. But like I just I just think that he’s performing now at his peak. I don’t think there’s much more to come even though he’s only just started back in the Premier League having not played for City for such a long time. What we’re seeing now is the very very best example of Jack Greish. And my thing would be if you got any insight into the uh management conversations like if he’s not close now, he ain’t never gonna be close cuz he’s started the season really really well. He seems to be a good lad. I mean we’ll come on to the two shall not put Bellingham in situation. I think Greish would be a miles better fit for the group potentially than a Bellingham who seems to be quite disruptive. Not so much on a seven or 10 day get together, but when you’re talking about trying to win a big two tournament and what that creates on an environment to sh might think Greish would be a bit I I don’t think he’s bothered. I don’t think Jack is one bit. I think he’s booked this holiday. Yeah, honestly he’s happy to have a break. I think he I think he is buzzing actually because he gets to go out on a Saturday afternoon do his best stuff that he does. I thought he meant drinking on a Saturday afternoon. Yeah, there’s that as well. There’s that as well. Probably that as well. But I do I just think he’s enjoying life when when it’s international break. He gets a few days off, gets to rest and recover. That’s what you’re seeing the best of him. He’s playing in the team with some really good players. You know, you’ve got your Jewsbury Halls, you got Diblin in there, and it works really well for the way that Everton are. It’s absolutely perfect for him. I think sometimes when you’re in with the England squad, it’s like it’s almost better to just be constantly missing out and unluckily missing out. Unluckily missing out. You know what I mean? Spoke about glowing. Everton will get the best of him by him not being I know what you mean though toes like you look at the the the kind of central and the wide players and you’ve got the MK Saka Rogers Gordon EZ Foden’s and you do start thinking when you really down Rashford and you’re thinking where does he fit like Palmer like whether he’s right left center where does he fit really maybe you’re right maybe it has just moved on a bit I think he would be a sort of person that you’d bring on winning England Linda winning 1 nil and he just keeps the ball up the top of the pitch and and takes the ball up takes the ball up the pitch sort of thing and I don’t think of it for what Gordon could do like do you know what I mean? Yeah. No, I just think like you know what Greish can do like when he comes on the last 15 minutes Sangland winning and you get the ball out wide and he takes up buys a foul slows the game down breaks the game up like but then that’s not him he’s better than that. He is better than that but I think that’s what what he’d offer. And what do you make of Jude’s emission from the squad toes? Wow. Is it anything to do with the comments that he made? Was it his mother made? Tuchel’s mother made last time. Yeah. Do you think that kind of like ties in? Say um what was the word she used again? What was the word? What what was the word she used? It was a uh Tommy Tool’s mom. Yeah. Came out and said that it’s a like she got Twitter or something. I don’t know what’s she saying. She came out and he I haven’t heard this. He came out and apologized and said it was lost in translation. um not repulsive repulsive behavior. Wow, that’s a strong word. Do you think they advertising? There must be some sort of correlation now. Well, we saw it last summer, right? So, let’s bit of context. So, he he is a little bit Bruno Fernandezy in terms of the flailing arms and stuff on pitch, but I don’t put it down to that. My take is he’s a bad tourist. What does that mean? as in in camp, you hear things and his dad’s all over the media and is apparently running the show and I just as in when they go when they go on on tour, when they’re away at the World Cup training camps, my what I’m getting from this that he’s he’s ultimately not a brilliant egg around the place. Well, then that what that’s right then what you’re saying then, isn’t it? Yeah. So, but that that that can’t that can’t work. If somebody’s bad in the camp with the players, then you can’t carry that because it affects everybody. It really this is a listen for him to do this right. He is clearly sending a message and you can say whatever you want, but there’s contradictions in the oh, he’s just coming back in played the full 90 and all over the weekend you’re going, “Yeah, but that’s the same for Ree J. It’s the same for this.” So, there are clearly flaws in what he’s saying. My opinion is he’s making a point. It’s hard because he Sorry. when the first game of the Euros last year, right? We was it Slovakia we beat 1 nil? Yeah. Was it? Yeah. Yeah, it was Slovakia went up. Second game. I think we drew the first one. No, the first game we won nil. Yeah, we didn’t get out there. Yeah. So, sorry. So, that first game we beat Slovakia 1 nil and it’s the last 10 minutes and I’m actually in the stadium, right? And and I’m near the corner flag and something happens. He doesn’t quite get a foul or whatever and he just like kind of throws his arms on the floor and like just arms in the air, sorry. and lays on the floor and like and I’m thinking get up and get back like the team we’re winning 1 nil we’re under a little bit of pressure here and I just thought the attitude then was but then also what about when it goes and scores that that equalizer in the last No but you know what it’s like that quality quality and attitude you got to managers you you you can forgo a little bit of a little bit yeah if you’re brilliant all the time and you’re doing it but if it’s every single day in in training every single day on the pitch when it when it really matters it was a red flag you get tired of it and you stop making allowances for people as well. So when it comes to picking the England squad, yeah, yeah, your Reese James or your um Loft Sheet might not have been playing too much football and not had too many minutes, but you know what? You go, but you know what? They’re good lads. Jordan Henderson. Yeah. Oh, but you know what? They’re good lads. I Harry P’s been our best England player for for for how long? Yeah. Have you ever heard of a a slither or anything? So So that’s what I mean. That’s what I’m saying. The allowances, you stop making it because the point where it’s like a 50/50. Yeah. He hasn’t made many minutes, but he’s not a great lad either. You go. So, what what do you make of it? Do you think it’s a message or Oh, without doubt it’s a message. Of course it is. So, it’s exactly what it is. Say what you want about it. If you’ve been in football, you know exactly what this means. It means that I’m saying to you, mate, listen, book your ideas up. Get back to performing. Because I’m not just going to bring you in cuz you’re a good player. Because you have a bit much of a negative effect on the team. There’s too much noise around it for you know the old no smoke without fire. It’s true. Guys, when you’re England manager, Southgate had a real good run at it and we always questioned whether he made big decisions in terms of the group or the camp and ultimately in game decisions we can argue good or bad. But when you’re England manager and you followed Southgate who’s been relatively successful, you’ve got to win this next World Cup. That’s what he’s been brought in for. And he’s had to lay a marker down here. And I’m not saying he’s he may well have spoke to him in a previous camp and has seen no change of behavior. So this is this is my marker. This is early enough, isn’t it? Before the World Cup. I like it. I think I think it’s amazing. And I tell you what, the rest of the group, everybody in there, when it’s World Cup year, people will not turn up for them England camps, whether it’s a friendly against Wales next week or the qualifier, they’re turning up. If it were two friendlies, 100% gas. Because as a footballer, no matter how big your ego, to go and play for your country in a World Cup is absolutely amazing. and I actually think he’s done a big and a good thing for England. Um the sorry quickly just we’re gonna move on from this in a second, but um it’s it’s down to the manager to set the the tone of what the team does and what’s acceptable in that team as well. And if you see something straight away that you don’t like, then you’ve got to call it out. You’ve got to put a nip it in the bud. Yeah. Nip it in the bud. If somebody’s going around being a bit of a bad egg or like just not doing things properly or professionally, no chance, mate. No, don’t. I don’t have that. And if you do it again, you’re out. Done. I like it. What about like um so obviously he scored of the weekend Mason man. Yeah. He’s is he back in like contention for the English? I think as well I mean he’s been out injured. He he hasn’t he I don’t I’d love to know what the run of games he’s had the most in succession. He seems to break down very often though. That’s the problem with it. And when you break down very often it’s really hard to get a a run of form going. Do you know what I mean? But if if he does if he can to the end of the season, do you think he could be in contention or not? Well, look, any anybody playing at the top of the game is always going to be in contention. I think there’s a lot a lot of competition and I think he would have to do monumental things for the rest of the season. But again, what I said earlier, it’s World Cup year and and they’re at it and there could always be a surprise inclusion somewhere along the line. But I mean, if you go then to the United game, I mean, what a start for him and the team. It’s an unbelievable touch and then finish with the opposite foot. It’s a great You talk about the goalie. They got a new goalie. United have mate. I’ve heard about this goalie. He comes for crosses, you know. He comes and claims crosses. There was some lovely crosses to come for as well, weren’t there. Nothing too kind of like stinky or in the mixer. They were just lovely ones that you could be on the front foot for. Come and take a good debut. Hey, brilliant debut. Really, really good debut. I think the debut is such an important thing for a goalkeeper for that club. Really, really important. And he handled it with flying colors. He really, really did. The acid test we what we said before it were a tough weekend. and weatherwise for any player, but playing in goal were really tough. Wet, windy conditions. You just don’t need it as a goalie. Honestly, you don’t need it. But like to play at home, um it should have its own comforts, but the way United are there’s probably a little bit more pressure in some ways playing at home to be fair. But for him to get through that, dominate the area, which he’s been signed for, saves were very comfortable that he had to make, but you have to make them. And for him not to get any criticism and come through the game clean, it can’t be a better start. That is an amazing platform for him to push on now and I will be really interested to see how play United they get the win. Clean sheet. Yeah. B again quickly just talking about just finishing on Lman’s like so they they’ve got to stick with him now. Yeah, they have to. If they’re if they’re bringing him in now just for the international break and he does well it’s it’s a it’s a statement, right? You’re our number one goalkeeper now for the rest of the season. Let’s see what you’re made of. That bar that was quite low is is set it a little bit higher. Little bit higher. Actually, for all the stick that Amarind’s had, it would have been easy for him when he did sign to put him straight in. I actually think he’s been quite clever in waiting for the team to pick up a little bit and not making it easy for him as well. Just coming straight. I think he probably just looked at the fixtures since there’s a stinky few couple difficult ones coming up. You know what I mean? Cuz I think he came to put him in game or something. Brenford away. Yeah, Chelsea won. I think maybe so I think he’s probably just bided his time gone right I’m going to wait till the Sunderland game okay wait till the Sunderland game and and I thought long throws that coming in Ben um like how do you deal with them a goal as a goalkeeper or is it the trae does it depend on the trajectory it’s all about the trajectory this one here right he is are the devil his are the worst ones to deal with it ever because it’s that low they’re not low they’re like scud missiles they go they’re literally just above your head right they are about in line with the crossbar just maybe. So you can’t come from So you can’t come comfortably and catch it because you’ve got 15 players in front of you who are trying to head it. 15 players. You can’t get above them for So you can’t get above them. So you’re watching it and you’ve got to wait because you don’t know whether somebody’s going to get a little flick because if somebody gets a little flick a meter, two meters in front of you, you can’t react to it. All right. You ain’t got time to react to it. So you’ve got to wait and wait and wait and then you’ve got to come very fast and very late and do it if you are going to do it. The easier ones to deal with are the loopy ones. Yeah. But there’s more pressure on you because you’re expected to come, aren’t you? You’re expected to come into the mixer and you’re expected to deal with it. Not necessarily catch it, but get a good old surface on it. A good But when you’ve got 15 players in you, three or four on you, you can’t really move very well. You can’t. It’s not like you can get your arms up and get a free run at stuff. You can’t move right one. There’s a player that you can’t move that. There’s a player. So, you’ve got to be again late and quick. Wait. Coil, coil, coiled. Bosch. That’s how you do it. I mean, I love it. I literally love it. And the fact they brought towels out and everything like the ego was just in the EFL you’re not allowed towels. So when we got promoted to the they ditched towels and I joked on the talk spot I said oh well they’re going to end my career then aren’t they? They did obviously. So um but no I just thought the throwin right the throwin is so much more accurate than a corner. So like I would know for example when I got the ball in my hands I know exactly where I can throw it within about a yard. So like you know whether it’s going to be near post just out a little bit further might clear the back post. We don’t want to talk about that. But no honestly I just think the consistency of it and I just you see it in it in every game. The EFL highlights as well you’re seeing goals from from throwing. But the thing for me because you were obviously very very good at the throwing but like from a goalie’s perspective or a goalie coach’s perspective you if you’ve got the profile so if you’re Donnaruma or a Martinez if I go and stand where where the bodies are line and kind of like say in my bright yellow kit I’m going to come and deal with this. Does that then change your mindset to where you’re going to put it or would you where would you put it? I put a bit further out a good penalty spot. So there you go then. And that’s why we’re there. So will with the reemergence of this now, that’s what we wanted. So with the reemergence of this now, will there be in goalkeeping meetings now? Will they start to dissect the who’s on long throws? How long are they? Will this now become part of that’s where the thrower as well has to mix it up? So I would purposely sometimes throw my first one a little bit short. I’d throw a little bit short and be like, “Right, suck them in a bit.” And then lads would know the next one is going to go bigger. Would you speak about that with the lads? Yeah, I would try and speak about but again we did like teams I play didn’t really go into loads and loads of detail like these guys are going into now. But I wanted to be like look first one always low or I put a loopy one in. Just suck them in a little bit and then I’d throw him with a real mate. If I’m playing against you I know what you can do. So we’d get to the game we’d get Thursday whatever. What I would say to me by the way you know we’re playing against Bener on Saturday. Yeah. You know he’s got that scud missile throw. And I go for God’s sake. He said, “So, henceforth, we’re going to do some frozen.” Have you seen the video of Dorking Wonder as Mark um in the training session when they were talking about him? No. Oh, you need to watch it. He’s good. I’ll watch it. And they got their players trying to replicate his throw and he’s going, “No, no, it’s flatter. To throw it in flatter and we score from that exact position. Throw it. He’d have to throw it like over arm basically, but just try and like zoom like that.” So, we’d be watching it and but we’d know this. We’d know this about you. We’ve done all our homework. We we’ve prepped for it. We’ve watched all the. So even if you did do a short one first, I’d be saying to those boys who’s already done a short one. This one’s coming right on top of us. All right. So I would be starting out on my six bar. But it’s honestly it takes so much bravery. It does. It takes so much bravery and you got to be a big as well. You got to be a big You got to have a profile. If you’re Nick Pope, Emmy Martinez, GG Donma, boom, you go for it, lads. But if you’re standing, if you’re a 6’2 m, you ain’t get you ain’t doing it. You ain’t doing it. Right. I’d love to see some football. I’ve had a couple where I’ve scored not direct you can’t but just ones like little nicks off the defender’s head and gone in and I’ve just ran away celebrating like that. Impossible cuz the goalie though you’re waiting you can’t come. If you’re one of those smaller goalies mate it’s a it’s the biggest nightmare in the world. I promise you every time a player kicks out you think mate kick it up for a corner. I’ll take a corner ahead of time. The thing I think when United’s second goal goes in, which is from the long throw, ROS is doesn’t I don’t know how big he actually is, but he doesn’t look like he’s going to stand on the corner because he’s got that profiling. So, if I’m talking about some real quality and I’m working with somebody who I don’t want to place there because it’s not where they should be. I’m always about the second contact. Now I know he gets across the defender Cesco and it’s like both the defender and him are going for it with the legs but I want me goalie to be really proactive there. You’ve got to be ready for that contact coming across cuz if you’re not getting involved in the first I need you to Newcastle were doing yesterday. I promise you every set piece they have right they were just sticking it to the back post Bman or whoever’s there heading it back across as well. Honestly they could have scored two or three goals just from doing that. Watt let’s talk about Villa briefly. though they are four in a row wins just as a bit of a shaky start all it was. Yeah, I think it was a shaky start. I I think that there were a little bit of negativity around the place with the transfer business that they’ had to do to fit back in with the rules. Um but we know Emry is top of his class, isn’t he? You know what I mean? So, it were always going to come come back together. Um Burnley, you know, tough game to go to Villa at any point, but uh Villa look ran out pretty comfortable in the end. But when when you concede from a set piece as Villa did, they’re always going to have a chance towards the end. But uh I thought Dravka made some big big saves in the game, even though I at the start of the show are quite critical of how he made one one of the saves. He had a lot of work to do because Villa Villa obviously at Villa Park are a good team and deserve to win the game and you know they’ve come and probably showed where they are now. Villa, you know, there’s teams probably in this league that have already played Villa that are quite happy they’ve already played Villa because I think Villa now are back to Villa. So, if you’ve got Villa in the next few weeks, home way, I don’t care who you are, you’re looking top six, top six, seven, that I think I think I think if they can get through to financial fair play, like if they can allow it and get to January, they’ll bring in one or two and they’ll be they’ll be right. We thought last January they were probably the one of the ones that did the best business and if they can recreate that and get something this shows you where they are. I was going to say Maron there in January he got admitted from the squad and also Ben has been injured and stuff. He’s been nowhere to be seen but them two now seem to be kind of finding their feet and and doing really well. Scored two goals didn’t he Mara the weekend for the well we were we were talking about the ball at the start but like the way he hit that I mean honestly it’s in before Dravka has even seen it. We’ll have to miss you. Talk about when deer. Did you see the elbow on him? I did indeed. What do you think about that? I thought you were a bit naughty because it’s last action of the game in it and I think he’s think he’s done on purpose. I did think he did it on purpose. Yeah, but it looks a bit naughty, I think. Yeah. Uh come on. Should we move for we’ve got a few more and then we got the quiz at the end. Uh let’s go Tottenham. Tottenham good win for them. Early doors Saturday morning kickoff. Uh Matias Tel starting ahead of Richardson which did my nothing cuz I’ve got Rich Charlles up front in my fantasy. Well, the one thing I’d say about that game, sorry for interrupting, is that last year a Spurs team going to leads Ellen Road early start, full house, big atmosphere. I don’t think they come out. I agree. I agree in that weather as well. Yeah. Yeah. In that the whole all take everything into account. I think Spurs would not have got a win there. And this is the difference now, isn’t it? A bit more steady, stable character. I don’t think we’re going to come out with the word spursy too often for the rest of I agree. It’s nice. Well, well said. How far up can they finish? Yeah. Right up there with him in charge. I think E he’ll have that squad of players and he’ll be thinking I’ve got a chance. Could they be best of the rest outside the the uh Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. It just depends because they’re in the Champions League as well. So, it just depends on squad. But they’ll they’ll disrupt a lot of teams this season as well. They’ll they’ll be a problem for all the big boys. The Arsenals the Arsenal game will be a tough one. I think Cudas getting a goal is a big Cudas is just an absolute beast. Um, yeah, I do. I like it to be fair. Leads were all right. Leads were good as well, you know, a lot of chances. They they really did have a lot of chances as well, but Vicardo did his bit in the goals and and and we’ve spoke about the Darlow stuff already, so we’ll not go over it again. But like that’s the difference between why leads have a real chance of staying up but are never going to push on because Karlowo I’ve known him a long long time and a great goalie done well but like he should be doing a little bit better on them two goals and then Vicario at the level higher produces the save. He makes one down to his left right and it’s a fantastic gets him the three points. A really strong hand down to the left. Boom into the goal though. Yeah, I think I think he’d challenge himself. The first one he’ll be disappointed with. The second one we I just No, sorry. The Vicaria should Vicario do better for the goaler. Yeah, the parry is not great. The parry is not great. Well, he did it against your team last week, didn’t he? And he just put it in a soft area. But I think in that he’s made his mind up what he’s doing and I think that will condition base this week. It’s so tough the conditions. You think because of the wetness if I get a parry it’ll probably skid away. He didn’t get enough on it to get away. Big Fraser the the guy who would never if he parried it Fraser that would have been out the box he’s going out for a corner. He might have scored a goal on a I do think that’s an area it’ be obviously with you guys is Vicario a top six goalie so I would have questions over that. No I wouldn’t put him there. Um he did make that save down to his left which was a world class save but then got up and give it that every Premier League goalkeeper should make you not put him in the top six cuz he did that. But I don’t for this weekend. I’m not putting it like that. Just because he got up and went, “Yes, I’m the man.” Your mate Emmy Martinez would do that. I don’t like that. Yeah. But Emmy can back it cuz he actually is the man. But still, oh, so it’s all right for him just cuz he can back it. He honestly the way he got up and he was going and I’m thinking, “Come on, just make your save and get up.” Every goalkeeper in the Premier League should make world class saves. True that. Yeah, true that. It’s the rest of it, isn’t it? Yeah. You’re not judged on the world class saves even though we do because that’s momentum changing in games and three points that you win or a point. But ultimately the very very best ones don’t make the big mistakes or get questioned like we’re talking about Darlow because on on the first goal he shouldn’t get beat on the second I understand why he has because he’s thinking the bender and he’s got to trust that you as a defender is going to block that near side cuz if you don’t come and stand in that position for that bender it’s in. And then we’re going to say ah the goal is not I don’t blame him for that. Not not the second one. I don’t blame him for that first one. He should hands up. Yeah. Um so that was Tottenham done. Where else are we going to go? Should we We can We only talk about Tom’s quickly. Come on then. Um gutted at the end. Yeah. My lad was George was absolutely seething. Yeah. Um do you know what I It’s been an encouraging week. Yeah. A genuine I know that we still haven’t won. Yeah. But the the signs are there that like if I go rewind two weeks, I was thinking, “Oh my gosh, this is going to be a heck of a long season.” But I’m a little bit more optimistic. So yes, it was another late goal two games in a row, but you’re starting to see in fairness like the goals like that will get you relegated though. Not only because it’s the last minute, but if you let teams take corner in the dying embers of games where you know you’re going to just supposed to be switched on for the last five minutes, just see it for the last five minutes and you let them take a short corner. You’re asking to get relegated and not one man free for the other. They’re right next to each other. Two men free for middle two men taking the corner free. It’s criminal that will get relegated. But two weeks ago, Wolves were lost that two or three nil without a whimper. Hey, Sam Johnson made an unbelievable season. That’s and like we’ve always spoke about him and S and obviously who’s this, who’s that, but he’s come back in the team now and obviously big save last week in Spurs and you know as a goalie you want that to be the save that gets you a one- nil win. Yeah. Um and he went mad with them two guys for not going out short. But that’s one of the things that’s really hard zonal when they play quick because these short guys are not switched on. The zones have got nobody to attach to and the runners coming in just on that late second bit. It’s like that that is just inexcusable. Premier League, didn’t we with Arsenal? Arsenal. Yeah, just sloppy. Tired. Newcastle scored a short corner. Arsenal scored a short corner. Little details. Isn’t this this I’ve said it before, but this is one of the first thing you teach kids, isn’t it? switch on, turn and face these little I would say again this is this could be from like I don’t know but lack of fitness leads to this kind of stuff you talk about fitness is concentration it’s a mental fitness it’s so different to being able to run for 90 minutes you have to be able to concentrate for 90 minutes and most people can’t concentrate for 10 minutes exactly and when it’s a dying end your body’s tired everything starting to switch off that one momentary lapse there of not locking in and not getting up to it boom that’s how that’s how it go veren by the Oh mate, I felt for because it’s such a good save as well. It’s such a good save. Tipped it lovely. It would have been It would have been one of the best saves you’ve seen as well. Like the Sam Johnson caught it. Yeah, quite similar actually. But um it came back and then hit off his other hand, I think. And it was a strong arm as well, wasn’t it? It was a good He was so so unlucky. It’d have been spewing at Danny Wellbeck’s header back. That’s why them center forwards when the defending that loo like a little nod down to a center forward partner. Go and have that mate. You can shoot nicely. But yeah, I mean that’s the life of a goalie. He were very very unlucky on that one cuz it were interesting. Areola nearly had one for West Ham that hit the post and it hit his button and then did you see him just as defenders clearing it? He’s like a [ __ ] Yeah. Yeah. Made himself small. Uh well then lads, I think we have done all the talking we need to do for the Premier League this weekend. Good chat as per usual. Um should we move on to the Quizler? Get Jiminy on. Big quiz this week. That’s first on. Let’s get it on. Just get him off. [Music] We are all super excited. People need to stop labelling Bellingham as disruptive without evidence. Stop casting aspersions based on journalists opinions & assumptions. No one has given any concrete examples of what he's supposed to have done in camp. Jude talked about how intrusive the press were towards his family which is why he chose not to speak with the media & they've had the knives out for him & his family ever since, very clear there is an agenda. You all forget how young he is, he was 20 at the euros. All I see is a confident young lad but that isn't allowed for certain people he has to be arrogant instead, they have to make it negative. They did it to Sterling & Rashford now it's Jude's turn.
Can Haaland score the goal Kane scored vs Frankfurt at the weekend? No chance also!
