The top 16 riders in the over 50 age category gathered at Kesgrave Cycle Speedway Club to contest this Veterans final. Heading the list of potential winners was Craig Marchant of England, a previous World Champion in the Over 40’s and a newcomer to the over 50’s. Paul White (Australia) is the current Over 50’s World Champion and could quite easily retain his title. Also in contention are Arkadiusz Slysz (Poland), Kevin Burns (England), current World number 3, Bradley Hoppo (Australia) and Mark Winwood (Wales). Lee Galley (Wales), Steve Paver (England), Mark Whitehead (Wales) and Jason Ashford (England) will all be in the mix by the end of the 20 heats. Throw in Dave Murphy (Wales), Ray Pyke (England), Paddy Wenn (Ireland), Steve Copping (Ireland) and Chris Turner (England) and you have a top class field of Over 50 years of age riders. Lets not forget Gary Brown of England, racing on his home circuit on an old style Cycle Speedway bike with a different gearing than everyone else! Could he be the World Champion?
