Day 220. 74km (91,341kms 8 yrs)
In the morning the mosquitos were back though mercifully not in the same numbers. The embers were easily restored into a fire though so we could enjoy our coffees safe from attack.
A comparatively early start today as we wanted to get 75 (flat!) kilometres to a place I thought would make a nice camp. Villages stretched along the main road, older wooden farm buildings behind modern brightly painted houses beside the road.
We arrived into Dakovo just as the enormous cathedral was letting out. In such a flat landscape the tall brick building is visible for miles. Barely 150 years old the frescoes inside are bright and in great condition.
I uploaded my vlog here on incredibly fast public wifi; WIFI4EU is prevalent in villages and towns all over the EU without a password so is incredibly handy, but this was remarkably fast. While I took care of other internet things Olivier patiently dozed in the sun. When we finally got going he must’ve been restless because he kept getting away from me. I missed a petrol station where I would’ve liked to have stopped but he was too far to reach, and then at the next junction I lost him completely. We’d agreed where to camp though so I kept going and a few kilometres later I found him waiting at a junction, bewildered as to what I’d been so stressed about.
No supermarkets are open on Sundays here, even the convenience stores were closed, so we had to satisfy ourselves at a petrol station where I picked up lowest priced bottle of wine – now cheaper than the beer sadly – since crossing into the Euro zone.
8kms later we arrived to Korodvar fort to find it very busy with groups barbecuing, and LARPing. Nevertheless we made camp at dusk to the sound of Croatian music, which I rather enjoyed until they left around ten or eleven.
