1981 British Senior Final at Bow – Cycle Speedway

Raced at Three Mills Centre, Bow E3, Greater London, the best 16 riders of 1981 graced that year’s British Senior Final. Colin Wheeler (Southampton), Roger Ellis (Wednesfield), Geoff Patman (Bristol) and Allan Miller (Bristol) stood out as the likely contenders for the Daily Mirror title. Phil Pilbrow (Norwich), Les Bowden (Manchester), Alan Guest (Wednesfield) and making only his 2nd Final, Chris Strutt (Basildon) all fancied their chances. Kevin Sutton (Somersham), Colin Simmons (Newport, Gwent), Rob Wallsgrove (Coventry) and Alan Brown (Uxbridge) were all seasoned campaigners looking to stamp their mark on the British Final stage, while Paul Ogden (Denton), Paul Dyson (Halifax), Karl Wilkinson (Kingstanding) and Mike Burgess (Bristol) were all battling for a podium position, or maybe a little higher!!
