We started the first
chapter in the VIA story in
July 2024 in the beautiful ancient city of
Cartagena in southern Spain. We followed
the great footsteps of Hannibal,
the Carthaginian general who
took his 38 elephants
across the Pyrenees, Alps
& Apennines to fight the Romans
in Italy. Our riders came from
more than 20 countries across
five continents around
the world. They rode
through a heatwave all the
way to the south of Italy to
finish in the charming
town of Giovinazzo on
the Adriatic Sea. These
riders of Chapter I called
themselves the Elephants. We restarted
the VIA story, Chapter II,
in Giovinazzo July 2025 and
retraced the history of one of the last
of the Caesars Germanicus,
riding from the Adriatic Sea
to the North Sea Known as the Eagles,
the riders of Chapter II flew
the length of Italy, braved
the stormy wet and cold Alps, touched the
Balkans and followed the
river Rhine to reach the North
Sea finishing by the Nederrhijn in the delightful town of Amerongen
in the Netherlands at
the cultural home of cycling, De Proloog Cafe. Over two chapters
we have ridden far and
high and our community has grown and strengthened. Mountain ranges
have been conquered, the
continent has been crossed,
many countries traversed, seas left and reached.
Lifelong friends have been
made, riders have grown stronger
and wiser about themselves
and the lands they have travelled.
Stories have been
told and more are yet
to be recounted. On the
24th of July 2026 Chapter III
will restart the VIA story from
De Proloog in Amerongen.
We will head north across Scandinavia.
We will visit the most breathtakingly
beautiful places, including
the fjord of light, Lysebotn, the glacial
Sognefjellet, the Atlantic
road, Trollstigen,
the “troll ladder”, Dalsnibba,
above Geiranger, finally to the jagged cliffs
of Vestkapp, the end of the
world. Most of the VIA
community will return from
Chapters I & II. Will you join
