I am a big fan of the Ortlieb Quick Rack but on my first ride my bag fell off the back of the bike. The rack had a 15 lb trunk bag load and the rack slipped off the seat post rod backwards. I had tightened the bolts VERY tight. I had used a level to install the rack perfectly at zero. This was not user error.

The smooth plastic clamp is on a smooth aluminum rod with little friction, so this is not a very robust design to prevent slippage.

I purchased a simple hitch pin from a hardware store (see photos) 5/64in x 1-5/16 hitch pin. This pin is 2mm thick. The rod is 8mm thick. I drilled a 2.2mm hole in the rod and snapped the hitch pin in place. Guaranteed the rack will not slip now. Just sharing for anyone with same problem.

  1. In the second picture, it looks like there is a crack along the length of the clamp. This could be a result of over tightening. This is where a 3d printer comes in handy.

  2. You should call ortlieb. They are very good at replacing things that break and wear out. I bet they help you.
