Hey everyone, I’ve owned Oakleys since a bday gift in 2003 (see pic – lowest pair of sunglasses). It appears the standard nose fit is becoming unexplainably wide. I have a relatively narrow and high bridge nose but its pretty average. My last Oakley purchase was Hydra this summer. Loved the aesthetic. As stated on their website, they are inspired by Razer Blades (model worn by Greg Lemond in the tour) yet the Hydras undeniably suck ass for cycling. I’m talking about impossible to ride head down with. I’ve had a random passerby conversation out on the road with a stranger that experienced the same and sold his pair. At first I suspected a lack of grip near to the ears and on top of the nose. So I try adding silicon sleeves near to the ears or adhesive foam, both of which help. But the root cause appears to be the redefinition of standard high bridge fit by Oakley themselves. By who, and why with Oakley, I will not know. You can see the evolution from my first Oakley’s (2003) to Jawbreakers (2016) to Sutros (2019) and finally to Hydra (see photos). Even between Jawbreaker and Sutro, the trend is the same and is most pronounced from Sutro to Hydra. I am curious about latter generations (Kato, Encoder). Just picked up a pair of of Scicon Aeroshades and will be giving the adjustable nose piece a try whereas I was an Oakley die hard before. NGL feels like a silly slow-burning DEI initiative to accommodate wider noses has been declassified here. Or perhaps something flown down from head corporate interns at Luxxottica.
