On this ride, I cycle a familiar route from Exeter to Tiverton. It’s a great road cycling loop which has it all really. Fast roads, villages/towns, and a city.
I was travelling on the 40mph A379 Rydon Lane in Exeter. I was nearing the end of my ride when I decided to move from the road to the cycle path. Unknown to me, a white van was travelling towards me at 48mph and shot past me the second I left the road. Looking back at the rear footage and studying his non-evasive actions, I believe the driver didn’t even see me.

My observations are the subject of this ride. So come along and enjoy another great cycling adventure.

I’m going to uh hop onto the uh cycle path now. [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat up here. Hi guys, welcome back and thanks again for joining me in my ride today. I really do appreciate your company. Well, today I’m doing about a 40 mile loop from Exiter up around Tiverton. Um, bit of a road ride really. So, uh, nothing special, but as usual, guys, let’s see if we see anything else interesting on today’s ride. Yeah. So, I’m just coming into Colombton now, and I’ll be making my way around to um to Taton. I’ve got a headwind. I’ve had a headwind all the way so far. Thankfully, it hasn’t rained, although it is very, very threatening. Very warm, guys. You know what I mean? But the wind’s quite warm, so it’s like uh having a hair dryer blowing at me. Another bus. Seeing lots of buses this morning. Yes. So, just coming into Colomb now, guys. Last time I was up here, remember the traffic being really, really busy. Yeah, there was a a crash then on the M5, wasn’t it? It’s a Union flag. Nice to see all the patriots putting them up everywhere now. Heat. Heat. There you go. That’s Colton for you. seen a lot of vehicles this morning crossing those uh double white lines. I think the rule is that you can only cross those uh double white lines if um you’re passing something doing 10 m an hour or less. To be fair, doing 16 mph, 17. [Applause] [Music] Oh my god, the wind is strong. It probably doesn’t look windy on the uh on the vlog, but I can assure you it really is [Applause] Heat. Heat. There’s a canal down there in the canal path. Absolutely love that route. Let’s definitely do that one again. Uh when it gets a bit colder, I think not so many people on it. Looks like it’s just going to be a cloudy day today. [Applause] What the T. You know, Skippy Tibby [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Yep. I refuse to ride in them lanes. Totally refused to. [Music] They’re the uh apparently the uh they’re the most dangerous piece of infrastructure on the UK roads. Once you set once you set beside once you set that side of the line drivers tend to fail to give you a minimum of 1.5 m passing distance. Better off not putting anything there cuz it they are an absolute nightmare. Nice to see that one was clean mind. Most of them are full of debris and everything, but I refuse to ride in them. I don’t have to ride in them and I won’t ride in them. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Mad, didn’t they? Mad drivers to overtake there just to take a swing of right. Unbelievable. This is nice. Look, this surface. I haven’t been this way for absolutely ages. [Music] It didn’t have this uh top layer when I was last year. Anyway, coming down into a little place now called Bickley and the fisherman’s cop. There it is. There. Well, the road was bumpy then. Well, a nice little 1% climb. Well, 1.5% to be precise. Little draggy things, aren’t they? Making my way back into exit soon. I’m just debating which way to go. [Applause] Yeah, I might go through the city center again. [Applause] Yeah, I have brought my rain coat with me just in case. I don’t trust it up there. I really don’t. I’m sure I can feel spits in the air, but then it might be uh coming from my water bottle. Sometimes that happens. You feel a few spits on the on your legs, but it’s just the water bottle. So you get that sometimes. Yeah. When there’s temporary traffic lights about the radar seems to knock out my radar sometimes and you end up with that a radar error. Usually just dismiss it, but that be a bit annoying at times. Look at these uh big craters here in the road. Bad, isn’t it guys? Pretty bad. Oh, this bike can shift when it wants to. Woo. Oh, my daughter said if I meet her at 12, she’ll buy me lunch. So, I should meet her at half past 12. I’m not missing a free lunch. [Music] [Music] What [Music] are you doing? [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] I’m going to uh hop onto the uh cycle path now. [Music] Yeah, it’s really nice to get off the main road for a little bit. It’s just lovely here, isn’t it? Oh, look. The leaves are coming down already, guys. That’s the end of summer. I guess we’re coming to the end of it. Oh, I still feel like I’ve got so much more to do this summer. Oh, I feel robbed. So, today’s ride guide is 45 miles, 1,754 ft of climbing. Right, I’ve just left my daughter. True to where she brought me lunch. That was really nice. So, uh, I’m making my way back now. Anyway, guys, that’s it from me for today’s ride. I hope you enjoyed that one. But if you did, could you please give us a like and come and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already? Till next time, guys. Keep smiling and riding and hopefully I’ll see you soon. Bye for now. Bye-bye. Bye. [Applause] [Music]

  1. That was a bit close for comfort even watching the video! The state of some of the roads leave a lot to be desired! At least the weather held off. Hope you enjoyed your lunch.

  2. Dismissing 'Radar Error' and close passes when riding in cycle lanes, two of cycling life bugbears! Some cars also trigger random 'Radar Error', I suggested to Wahoo that they just flash display for a few seconds and clear the message without having to press 'Dismiss' – running latest firmware on Roam 3 and it still does it but 'Radar Error' text so small now difficult discerning what it says, have to look down and close – very distracting.
Where I live, there is a narrow pavement for about 50m and buses / lorries pass at 40mph close pass their wing mirrors by pedestrians walking the narrow pavement!

  3. I get the same radar error on my Garmin. The temp traffic lights send out a similar signal to the radar and this confuses the headunit and hence the error. If you know what you are looking for, you can predict it. I have just got a new Garmin radar (eRTL615) for my Creo 2 and this is wired into the Creo main battery. No more battery worries on the radar.

  4. fat men on bike – the scourge of british roads and he complains when someone speeds but it fine when he rides over the limit. how do i block this channel?
