I ride my ancient , now defunct electric bicycle until the battery runs out. Interspersed with intrusive thoughts and vague historical information. A lovely summer day, and I wanted to test my AliExpress clamp (which kinda worked, but needs tweaking). .
Well, good morning. It’s uh it’s me again. I’m just going for a little bike ride, trying out a new thing I put on my bicycle. So, we’ll see how we get on. Got these new clamps I got from uh AliExpress. This is Rosary Road. No. Is it? Yeah. Is this Rosary Road? This is historically where there was a lot of prostitution, but they’ve uh booted it out. Uh, I don’t know where they go now. I I never frequented it to be honest. But anyway, a lot of prostitutes down there in the old days. Good old days. But, uh, yeah. So, we’re on a bicycle. I’ve got me, uh, little mic on. I haven’t got a helmet on. I I should I normally do wear a helmet, but it’s such a lovely day and it’s quite early on a Saturday morning. I thought I’d be all right. I thought it’d be okay. This thing here, the pub here is called the lard’s pit. And I believe that is where they used to burn witches or like bury them or something like that, which is interesting to know. But this is Bishop’s Bridge, Bishop’s Gate Bridge. Uh, this is a great pub. You can go canoeing out there if you fancy a canoe. We’re going to go along the river. In fact, I’ll show you the Oh, look. There’s some people canoe in there. They got lovely um I think you can do spa stuff and they’ve got like uh what’s it called? Um sauners. You can go for a sauna if you fancy. It’s like quite a new thing, but I quite like the tent and of an evening. It looks quite nice. They’ve got like lots of lights. Got some gentlemen here. Cheers. Sorry. That’s all right, mate. Cheers. Thank you. No worries. So, not a lot of people come this way. Whoa. [ __ ] Off-roading. That’s uh testing the rig. The extreme off people on their uh what are they called? Paddle boards. Let’s just tighten that up. Just check it’s not going to bit wobbly. It’s just on one thing. It’s going to go off rope here. Yeah. Go this way. People going canoeing. Oh, that’s the uh cowhill thing. Is it? No, not cowhill. I don’t know what I’m talking about to be honest. This is one of my favorite trees. Love that tree. I have hugged it a couple of times. You get energy from that kind of thing, don’t you? I believe. Well, so that Oh my god, there’s a man swimming over there. Or a lady. Why not? While while swimming. I’m not sure I’d want to do it if I’m honest. Get in front of this bloke. This thing here, some kind of swan pit or something. They used to breed swans there. It’s the only one in England or something. Something about swans. [Music] Anyway, yeah, it’s definitely quite wobbly this thing. I think it needs something else. Well, I have gone a bit Well, it’s not really off-road, is it? This is one of my favorite bridges. I like this one. A lot of wood on it. Uh, we’re going to go. Yeah, I like the way it’s sort of suspended. It’s pretty cool. I’m going to go by these paddle boarders again. This way. Get out the way of the paddle boarders. Uh, this is the Adam and Eve pub. This is a very old pub. It’s a very nice one. Quite small, but look at that. Ain’t that beautiful? Don’t get that in the States. Uh, where else am I going to go? I could go up here. This is the back of the law courts. So, we’re on a bit more stable road now, so hopefully it’s not bouncing around too much. Yeah, these walls I always find it a bit oppressing coming down here. Uh, but it’s not. But feels like it could be. Don’t know why. I just don’t like walls. Don’t like being walled in. Oh, I tell you what would be nice going this way. This is what these are. One of my favorite houses down here. I think I need to change the pads on my batle. Sound quite noisy. I don’t mind being oppressed by green hedges. They’re okay. Yeah, walls are just not great, are they? I have a feeling this camera is a bit too close as well. Anyway, I’m only doing this cuz uh my car’s being in forot this morning. I’ve got 45 minutes before I can pick it up. I thought I’d go for a bike ride. But look at these houses. Aren’t they bloody lovely? This is where I came the last time um with the vicar’s house. This is the back of the vicar’s house. But in it, bloody gorgeous. Bloody love it. Same squeeze doing a delivery. Oh, the roads are a bit bumpy. But now I’m on the bicycle. I can go different different places. Not feel so worried I’m going to annoy people. Oh, proper proper bouncy. proper bouncy. Yeah. Look, there’s the cathedral. How cool is that? Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I mean, it’s supposed to some parts of it are a thousand years old, but or maybe that’s the castle. I don’t know. But it’s old anyway. And over here is Ed Cavvel’s grave. So they I think they moved it, but it’s I feel a little bit disrespectful doing this, but I’m not I do totally respect her. And yeah, so hats off to you, love, cuz you did you did a lot. In the light of God and eternity, I have realized that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred. or bitterness towards anyone. That’s a nice little thought, isn’t it? No hatred or bitterness to anyone, even in light of patriotism. This is an old people’s home, which I want to live in one day when I’m old. I’m getting there. But this is a sculpture, and I went and tapped it the other day, and it’s made of glass fiber. It’s kind of nice sort of 70s, but uh I thought it was a bit of a shame it was glass fiber. Maybe that’s to stop it getting nicked though to be honest cuz it’s quite a public space this. So yeah, I’m coming. This is a little circle. I’m coming to come back out. Oh, the gate shut. But this I I was just here a minute ago. Um this is the back of the law courts. I’m going to get myself oppressed again. Can he open that thing without getting off the bike? Yes. Uh yeah, Bishop’s Gate Bridge is down there. I thought I’d go down the lanes. I got enough time. I might get a phone call halfway saying my car’s failed. It’s got the I just got like I think it’s got um the tires have had it. Not great. Adam and Eve pub again. Lovely if you want to sit out there in the summer. Although it isn’t a car park, but if you want to walk down the river, it’s quite a good spot. Yeah, this is where that’s the old law court. That’s where you get the old uh the news coming through that they’ve arrested someone doing whatever pilering and all the rest of it. I quite like this the f the fact this pub here is called the Wigan pen which I think is a reference to the lawyers. So obviously a lot of lawyers probably drink there. Well they did in the old days. I don’t know if they do anymore. Century house. This is the probation off probation service we were in there. So it’s quite handy. You go to prison, go to court and then you’re back there doing your probation, you know, checkups all the time. Maids Head Hotel. Maid Hotel. It’s one of the best in Norwich, I think. And uh they’ve always got a lovely Bentley out the front. Well, it’s not today, but I think they do sort of concierge service on a with a with a um with a car. Louis Marquez is a nice pub. Live music. One of the last venues in Norwich. pubs doing live music. Do I dare go up Elm Hill? I’m going to go up uh Elm Hill. No, I’m not. It’s just going to be too bumpy. Too bumpy. Yeah, I should have done that. But uh this is um what’s this? What’s this street called? It’s got some Benedicts. Oh god. What? I can’t remember. I’m not very good at these, am I? What the [ __ ] is this place? The mischief pub. Um, what is this? Oh, Magdalin Street. Yeah, Magdalin Street. He don’t care. He’s just going Magnum Street. Got some nice little independent shops down here. It’s a bit groy. It’s a sort of groty groy sort of street, but Lucy’s is like a jump shop and they sell some good stuff there. latest videos. Um, oh, and this is the uh fly over I mentioned in my last one. Sort of 70s. It’s a bit random that they just sort of knocked the old buildings out to build this in the ‘ 70s, but that’s what he did back then. They gave no shits. Bit of fruit and veg. This is Oh, this is Angler Square. I might cycle through it actually cuz they’re knocking this bad boy down. I’m just going to get up this curb here. Yeah, all these shops are now empty and there’s probably going to be a lot of people recording this cuz this is all coming down. So, sort of a I think this was a ‘ 70s monstrosity. I I suppose it is kind of brutalism in a way, but not executed very well. Hollywood cinema. This is where they they premiered the Alan Partridge film. Look at it. Sort of sad. I mean, this place was never really used properly. Um, it’s funny old place. Yeah, I don’t think it’ll be missed too much. I mean, that thing behind the worst. Oh, it’s actually the bit. It looks looks the best. But yeah, following place. There used to be a nightclub here uh on the left. I can’t remember what it’s called, but I have been I think it was that one. Yeah, that one there. And it’s pretty dodgy. So, I still don’t know what to go anyway. People are looking at me thinking, “What the hell is he doing?” Oh, my chain is still staying on, which is good. I’m quite proud of my new chain that I’ve put on. So, this is a a test. Epic Studios. They do live music in there. You’d never know it’s there, really. Um, and then up here, we’ve got Yeah, this is a good little pub up here. Uh, what’s it called? This one on the right is Oh, where is it? Ah, yeah. Molten. Molten marble. It’s like one of the smallest ones in Norwich, isn’t it? It’s tiny. The artich choke is really nice as well. Look at that sort of 1930s design. This is a nice part of um up and cominging part of Norwich to be honest. I’m going to just go uh yeah. So that’s a bit of that. I think this is M cross. I don’t know. I don’t know a lot about a lot really. My M still on. Yeah. So uh yeah, the sort of back end of uh Narage. My mate Mike used to live just there. I’m going to go on a red. I’m going to go up this car. I’m not going to la. Don’t you worry. Oh, here’s the back end of um Angular Square. That’s a sad thing. I love that old shop. Work boots. You know, you don’t get that independent old shots like that. But look, there’s uh Angus Square. And I always, like I say last time, it always reminds me of a cruise ship. I just imagine that the sort of the chimley on the top and it’s sort of sailing off into the distance. I don’t think it’ go to the Caribbean. might get get it to uh what those what are those islands called? Oh, my brain’s not working today. But what are them bloody things called? Um not the aisle of white. The Channel Islands. Jersey and Gernzy. It probably make it there if it was a boat. Yeah. Look, all this is coming down. I mean, it needs it to be honest cuz it was just falling a bit. Go. Um, what have I done to here? Don’t think there’s a crossing there. Oh, yeah, there is a crossing. I better go that way. So, my car is definitely being emptied now. This is quite a nice little street actually. Oh, St. Charles Works. So, they used to make shoes there. You probably can’t see it, but lovely. Look at that. Isn’t that lovely? All the I love all that. the factory roofs. Quite nicely designed. Good pub here as well. Yeah, another good pub. Yeah, I like all this area. It’s nice. Yeah, sort of. You can imagine it was sort of industrial years ago. Look at that. This is always I love that. In fact, I might go down there cuz I can. Mother this way. Turn around. Let’s go down here. Yeah, look at that. I love red brick. Don’t know why we’re so fascinated with old things, but I suddenly Oh, just imagine the history coming down here in years gone by. All the factory workers coming down here making shoes or whatever they did. Look at these lovely bricks. They’re shiny bricks. If I can get through here. I don’t think I’ve ever been down here. Oh, look. There’s a Looks like I can. Oh my god, it’s a bit tight though. I will I will do it though. I’ve done it. God, that’s a bit difficult if you disabled that corner, but they can’t knock a building down. Anyway, I’m back at it. My nose is running. Oops. See, one of my one of my favorite pubs in there. I can’t remember what it’s called. Oh my god, I’m afraid. It’s called um theater. What’s it called? Oh god, I just can’t. I’m not awake to be honest. Uh this is the art college area. Oopsy daisy. I’m trying to think what that pub’s called. So, it’s the theater. Um theater. Oh god. I can’t remember. Theater something. Puppet theater. I don’t know. This place is up for sale. I’d love to live there, but it’s unfortunately business use only. So, oh, what am I doing here? That’s a lovely tender. Yeah, that pink place. I’m going to go. Oh [ __ ] Oh, sorry. Someone’s ching me off or doing something. So, uh, I wanted to get down the lanes. So, um, that’s not really one of them. I’m going to get told off by this bloke. I think I’m not careful. Ah. Oh, this is interesting. This little house here. Look at that. How cool is that? I’m going to get told off probably again coming in here. But isn’t that weird how the weather’s done that? I don’t know if it’s used anymore, but in the old good old days, they used to have like things in that. Oh, pop it. I’m going to pop it. Yeah, they used to have uh telephone chains. They probably had all these wires and you made a call and not somebody but a machine had to put the wire connect the call and you spoke on the thing. God, how I reminisce of the days when we had phones and you did the dial. You had to dial like that. That would be cool. This is um Strangers Hall. It’s luckily it has written on it, but it’s some kind of museum which I’ve never been in. Another pub. Oh, this is St. Benedict. I’m going to go down St. Benedict’s. I got time. Oh, there’s little sausage dog pictures there. Oh, I’m crossing. Yeah. Yeah. Another nice lots of independent shops down here. Pizza Express, which is not obviously independent, but I think they’re getting this vibe right there. We’re going a bit more um continental with the uh sitting outside Sound Clash. One of the last places you can buy vinyl, I think. Although it’s come back, obviously. one of the original places you can buy vinyl. And then we got a few um porn shops, which I always think is a bit funny down here. Oh, and that’s the Oh, no. This is the art center down here. Just make sure that’s not falling off. Yeah. Uh the art center. So, you have live bands down here, which uh is very nice. I think I’m going to go left up here. Oh, it’s a bit cobbly. Oh, we’ll give it a go. Oh my god. I’m going to hold on to the camera. Doesn’t really like cobbles. Oh my god. Nor does my nuts. Oh, I can’t really stop cuz luckily there’s nothing going. Oh, I like these this bit. Catherine and Jer is getting married today, so we’re going to going to a wedding reception. We’re not going to the main thing, but uh it’s going to be nice. I went and had a look at it yesterday, the venue cuz I’d done something for her and it looked absolutely gorgeous. Done a super job. Oh, that’s a bit ugly, is it? Oh. So, where are we now? Oh god. Yeah, they get some of this. I mean, this is all probably bomb damage, but some of it Oh, actually, I don’t know. Do I like it? Maybe I do. Salami bit of a vape. Oh, this is the lanes down here. Grove in a fish bar. It’s one of my used to be one of my favorite things, but I’ve trying to be healthy, so not doing that anymore. But yeah, look at all this. Isn’t it lovely? And I’ve got before that. So there’s no lost. That dog is so freaking cute. I love a dog. Let’s celebrate dad. Well, my dad’s dead. So, but anyway, hats off to him. Sleep boy. See? Oh. Oh god, it’s dropping again. City Hall. I quite like the doors on this building. Don’t you can see him, but it’s all about like stuff of the county. I’m not sure we do a lot of that anymore, but also quite a lot of lions. I like them. I think they’re cool. That’s the bikers thing. Oh, and that’s the marketplace down there. Yeah, the forum. They sometimes have little events here. Sort of. Not sure about it if I’m honest. Noisy dog. Yeah, I think I’m going to probably head home now. This is the new thing they’ve done here. Um, I think it improves it. Which way am I going to go home? Probably this way. Yeah, I’m going to go down here. Oh god. This wasn’t the best choice if I’m honest. Lot of people down here. They’re going to think what a dick I am with a camera on. I think Well, I could be for road safety, couldn’t it? But I’ve got a dash cam on dash cam on my uh mask. Um, we’re going to go this way. The mow slowly dying. These are like a 2000s thing and it’s not good. Uh, like headed definitely need pads. Very screechy. Um [ __ ] hell. Don’t like this bit. Anyway, I I can’t remember what this street is called, but they used to have cars coming down here. They pesterized it in the 80s, I think. Nice watches. I think take foodie daddy’s hats off to you. It’s one of the greatest events uh live music places in Norwich because there aren’t that many to be honest, but it’s the best. I love it. Actually, that’s the my tattoo down here. That’s really daddy’s uh logo. How much I like it. We’re going Oopsy daisy. Think I’m go down King Street. Well, my chain hasn’t pulled off. It sounds a bit grindy, but that’s Don’t know why it’s doing that, but it’s probably the wrong size or something. I had to grind off about three links. Then I punched it through the link thing and I think I bent one of the the links, but she’ll do. She’ll do. This bike’s nearly had it anyway, to be honest. It’s had some punishment. What’s going on here? Last up, honey. The last pub standing is a good little pub as well. This little place is weird. It’s like you can get bottles. They get bottles from all over. Quite expensive. And they’re not particularly Well, they sort of threw me out once. I think I was a bit loud. They didn’t throw me out. They politely asked me to shut up cuz I’m just a dick really. Anyway, the good old electric buses are getting a bit noisier now. They’re a bit older. They’re sort of whistling a bit more. The motors are getting a bit more noisy, but I still like them. Not as uh noise as smoky, you know. This is King Street. A lovely little street. This is one of my favorite things. Look at that. Somebody’s got to do something with that at some point. But it looks I like the fact it’s derelct. Oh, this is some kind of religious thing. King’s Community Church. Yeah. Look at all these old timber buildings. So they they kind of they built these these newer ones and they could kind of fit in. But um this thing down here I think is called uh Dragon’s Hall. It’s some kind of literature place and events what have you. But it’s um old. Basically it’s old. I’m going to go left here. Think I left down here, mate. They’ve just built these down here. Well, last sort of two years, they’ve not quite finished them. That always just needs sorting out. I feel sorry for this restaurant. It never looks quite never looks very busy. Oh, no. There’s a few people there. Uh this is Witherspoons down here. And if the weather stays like this, that will be a ramadam later today cuz it is bloody gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. And you know, this isn’t that bad. This survives this place. Riverside. Yeah, they got some stuff down here. People come down here. You can go to the cinema. Cinema’s main thing. Go trampoline, have a wagam mama. Five guys. Love this mural. I like you like that little you like that little weird um sort of thing. I think it’s supposed to be there’s a tail of some kind of thing. Do I go? Yeah, [ __ ] it. So, oopsy daisy. Oh no, me battery’s gone on me bicycle. So, so it means I got to actually cycle. And this is not an easy bike to cycle. So, probably on that note, I’m going to I’m going to cut off cuz I’m going to be sweating like a pig in a minute. Anyway, this is the station. I’m going to take you in the station and then we’ll end it at the station. I better get off me bike before I go in there. No e scooters. Oh, it says no e scooters. Places you can take in bicycles. Wonder what’s happened to the bike. Look at this though station. Quite a nice roof booth. Could probably do with a repo. Anyway, that’s that. I’m going to end it there. See you later.
