Welcome back to day 121 of biking around the world and day five of biking in France. This morning we walked around the town and went to a little market to pick up some pastries to take on the road with us for our first bit of biking. We have 60 mi to ride today and we again got a late start and didn’t want to ride in the dark, so we wanted to make the day as like seamless as possible. Well, we were 100% going to be riding in the dark. We just wanted to like limit the amount of miles that we had to do after the sunset and the sun’s setting at like 5:45. So yeah, honestly that’s been like the biggest constraint on our distance over the past few days is just not wanting to ride too much in the dark and not wanting to wake up any earlier than we have to. But yeah, we actually did such a good job today. We had like 63 miles and I think we only ended up riding in the dark for about an hour. The pastries that we got this morning were so good um and definitely kept us fueled for the long day of riding. We were on the same canal, so we had very similar scenery to the last few days. The fall leaves have been beautiful. Um, and yeah, we’ve just been following the signs, which is like the best way to ride when we don’t have to look at the GPS at all and we can just like rely on the signs to get us to where we’re going. Um, and then the route like strayed from the canal for a little bit and we were kind of weaving through like farms and a few towns. It was very interesting like kind of like these like back roads that went right through like people’s driveways and stuff. The weather was super hazy and foggy and kind of spooky. Um, but as lovely as the canal is, it’s also nice to get like a change of scenery and follow like different directions instead of just going straight. And since the sun is setting earlier, we pulled out the high viz vest. So, this was nice. We felt very visible, and that’s a big goal of ours, of course, especially when we’re riding at night. And then we finally finished off the day and got some steak and fruits and went to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow.
