Cycling/Bike-packing Islay & Jura via the Cowal Peninsula- 🏴
A great ride out along the NCN 75 from east Glasgow through Paisley, Bridge of weir and on to Gourock. A ferry then takes you across to Dunoon and the undulating Cowal Peninsula- working around to Portavadie, where I caught the passenger ferry across to Tarbert.
A night in Tarbert before a morning ride on the kintyre peninsula and then down to Kennacraig for the Calmac Ferry to Islay ( Port Askaig) cycled North – South – East & West – taking in the sites & numerous fabulous vistas over 3 days & then a local authority ferry across the sound of Islay to Jura for a day on the island.
All in fabulous cycling – Bikepacking islands – 10 working distilleries in total – 9 on Islay & 1 on Jura – with 2 more under construction on Islay, but the islands offer so very much more than the whisky distilleries, all be it I had to ask the question in the whisky vault, “how much is the most expensive bottle you have” 85k the lady replied… yes that’s right £85.000! That’s some bottle of whisky for sure!
So after 1 Train 6 ferries & 9 distilleries & some 450km + of cycling/Bikepacking this particular island adventure was over, but there is always another island, although I’ll be sure to come back here some day for sure 👌🏴
