So I’ve done it this way with elastic bungee cords for a tour. It works okay but with big bumps you run the risk of things popping off. Also you have to get the tension right so that it doesn’t pull your load one direction or another. I also used two straps that “started” from the other side to help provide balance. Also elastic straps love to break. I feel like I see bungee cords and hooks littering the highway all the time.
