Having parted with my carbon/axs/disc bland, modern wonders, I decided to pursuit modern iterations of the steel/metallurgy, mechanical bikes of my youth. I wanted either something like a high end steel Fairlight Secan or Cinelli Nemo tig gravel. Or dab into that titanium with a Decathlon triban grvl 900ti.

Scanning used ad's for Reynolds 853, I stumbled on this. It does of course not have modern standard tire clearance or disc mounts, or fender mounts, or anything else that would make my modern 2025 life any easier.

First rides as is indicate that handling isn't the nimblest right now, as well as that weight penalty, and 2×8 make it a rather steep (de)earning curb, returning from a modern bike world.

What it does has is charm in spades and those promises of future adventures on the road.
I mean with exceptions of a couple scratches, the bike looks like it røde out of Treks Wisconsin plant yesterday.

I would normally prefer Shimano Ultegra/XT and up when shopping used mechanical bikes, but this has almost the complete 105 SC installed. I was told , and actually believe that the bike has been sitting almost unused all this time. Uncanning..

Had to have it.

Good evening everyone
