Picked up a Surly 8 pack rack and a Wald 139 half basket to use primarily for commuting. Already had a full 139 basket but thought the half looked clean. The full size definitely fits my work bag and any extras more comfortably than the half. Just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone is debating which one to pick up.

What’s your preferences on baskets for commuting?

I hate front racks. I ride small size road bikes bikes so anything I put in the front platform or basket hits the bars or makes it impossible to shift. And low rider pannier front racks makes low speed control horrible so when trying to filter through congested traffic is super sketchy.

  2. Front platforms are great for irregular objects (vacuums, laser printers, toilet paper packs) rear baskets are great for schlep and go and have no effect on steering .
Walds are steel and pretty heavy, imho. So they have a tendency to make the front wheel dive when unattended.
