  1. Great idea! I have three bikes for commuting, a 2000 Specialized Roubaix, 1995 Specialized Stumjumper with slicks, and my newer Trek Boone that is only used for commuting once a month.

The Roubaix is the go to bike 90% of the time because it’s functional, faster than the converted mountain bike and old enough that it does not attract attention. Especially with my black Gorilla tape camouflage and frame protection.

The mountain bike is really just a backup.

Both commute bikes are set up with SPD- SL pedals and decent commuter tires.

I’m by no means an avid cyclist i ride to work about 3.5 miles both ways. I have a cheap chinese fixie that i take 80% of the time because i dont have to worry about brakes or shifters malfunctioning and stopping in shitty part of town. A light road bike single speed with front brake as recovery bike and a road bike with 10 gears i think. I also kinda want a gravel ebike or hardtail fixie conversion, but space sucks lol. If youre just commuting with it on the street a road bike is nice and light. I turn my drop bars up tho because im not racing anywhere
